Producer Nina Jacobson: Asked about sci-fi action film The Hunger Games, Jacobson said, “The author (Suzanne Collins) is adapting it herself and she is writing away as we speak so I’m very excited about that.”

There’s no director or cast on board for that film yet. “We’ve had a lot of interest from directors,” she said. “Kind of an embarrassment of riches in terms of tons of directors who have called about it, but we didn’t want to attach anybody until we had a script and knew we were making the movie so that we didn’t end up having somebody get attached and then take something else and then not know what to do about staying with them or not. So we are waiting until we have our script before we go to directors, but there’s been some interest from great people.”

Lionsgate is targeting a 2011 release for the film. “[The studio] has been incredibly gonzo about having the movie. We’re getting the script in and our goal is we hope to attach a director late spring and make the movie in the fall for release anytime fall ‘11 or later. But that’s if everything goes perfectly on the script. If we take more time on the script, we’ll just go a little bit later. But our hope is to be making this movie in the fall,” she explained.

All I can say to that is…HOORAY! Also them being ‘gonzo’ about it is a great sign.

I know not to trust what producers say, but — this sounds like it’s REALLY HAPPENING!!! O_O Oh my goodness, I’m so excited!!! XD Here’s hoping all goes according to the rough schedule the producer mentioned so that we’ll see cast names by the end of summer!!!
(But the book fan in me wants to say, “Take as long as you need! Just make a GREAT MOVIE, please!!!”)
(Please don’t let anyone change their minds. I have total faith in Suzanne Collins to adapt her book for the big screen — but please don’t let anyone in Hollywood ruin the magic of The Hunger Games either — such as placing some teen starlet like Selena Gomez or Demi Lovatto in the role of Katniss. >_< That sounds like a nightmare right there.)

Yes!! It’s just nice to know that Lionsgate is kind enough to let us know that they really do plan on making this movie, and that Suzanne Collins is actually going to be writing the script (or is currently writing the script.)

This is completly random, but didn’t Lionsgate make the Saw Movies? If so, then they certainly aren’t going to be afarid to make this movie super intense, and a little graphic. (I still hope it’s not going to be rated R!)

it was hard enough waiting for 2011 before i found out it was fall or later!

Sorry evertime i hear movie info i freak out.
I can’t believe that Suzanne Collins is adapting the script herself. When i first heard it was going to be a movie i was terrified because i didn’t think they could do it justice. But now that the actuall author is adapting it i don’t have any worries. At least it won’t turn into another Eragon or Inkheart.

I always like book adaptations better when they have unknown actors play the lead roles. It makes it seem more real when you can’t sit there and say, “Oh that guy was really good when he played this other person”. I think they should have open casting calls in LA, NYC, & Orlando or something like that. At least for Katniss & Peeta, maybe Gale.

Do you know when auditions are being held because i love acting and would definitely be interested in auditioning for the part of Katniss(or madge). I’m fifteen and want to act as a career so this would an amazing oppurtunity! If anybody knows anything please tell me, thanks! I live in Dublin(ireland)and i know a lot of other people in my drama school who would be very interested for various different parts! My agent is Gillian Oman.
