| by Kass in April 27 - 4:52 am |
Currently hearing the podcast. Amazing job on everyone’s part great opinions, also i loved when you were theorizing the district 13 with katniss’s dad etc. I haven’t finished Catching Fire yet so i’m excited to see what happens at the end but assuming something bad happens to Peeta. But all that aside love the podcast guys |

Excellent podcast guys! It was really interesting to hear all the conspiracy theories relating to Katniss’ and Gale’s fathers. The discussion on this episode was really good. I liked how you picked up nearly every detail and was so thorough about all the points you discussed. You made me think about certain things in the series that I hadn’t thought about before. I really like the idea that Gale might have seen Peeta just before he and Katniss had to leave for the Capitol, and that the reason for Peeta’s tears was that he thought he was going to die to save Katniss. If you think about it, Gale must have realised Peeta had a thing for Katniss, so he must have used that as a reason to make Peeta do all he can to save Katniss. All this discussion really makes me want to read Mockingjay and find out what actually happens!! Also about your intro music: I really liked the intro music for this episode, it reminded me of Katniss embarking on a long journey or something. I didn’t like the intro music for the last episode as much as this one, Tik Tok just reminds me of Kesha and I just don’t like her for some reason. But your intro music for episodes 1-7 were also good. To me the original music just seems to ‘fit’ more with the podcast, but that’s just probably because it was the first one I heard so it seems more natural. Looking forward to hearing the next Chapter by Chapter! Keep up the good work guys! |

Katniss and gales dad theory is genius |

I get it! (if this is true…) |

Talking about furturistic distopias reminded me of a book (“House of the Scorpion” by Nancy Farmer) where American has crumbled and become a third world country, there is a country between U.S and Mexico that is pretty corrupt that is ruled by rich people (It’s been a while since I read the book so I might be wrong) and Mexico has flourished. There is also future tech such as hovercrafts, but these aren’t mentioned alot in the book. Also, I do nkt like Katniss. Now that I think about it, Katniss seems pretty emotionless (to me). And last, I assume Prim is aroun 10 or 11, and I know a girl that almost perfectly matches Prim’s description. When I read about Prim, I imagined that girl. She has that quiet, sweet, innocence thing that you seem to read about Prim. 0_0 Ok I lied one last thing….. GALExKATNISS! Sorry for typing error but I wrote this on my iTouch. -_- |
| by Greg in April 28 - 12:12 am |
Yeah… So Gale… I decided right away that I wanted Gale and Katniss. And I won’t go back on that. I’m doubting… crap… no I’m not. I think they may be in District 13. Sorry, I’m commenting while listening. I don’t think so though. And yeah, Tori’s right, I doubt he’d run away like that. What’s with that whole part of silence for 30 seconds in the middle? |
| by Kimmy in April 28 - 12:48 am |
Where is the silence Greg? I can go in and cut it out. |
| by Katie in April 28 - 8:45 am |
I really loved the podcast! You guys were great and picked up on so much. You’re definitely right about seeing more the second time around. NamelessGirl, I don’t necessarily agree that Katniss’s relationship with Prim is fake and cliched. In fact, my best friend’s older sister is ridiculously protective of her like that. I too am an older sister and am quite guilty to underestimating my sister’s knowledge about the world around her. The conspiracy theories are amazing, though. I loved you guys connected it all. Kimmy, the silence starts at 50:30 and goes until about 51:23 with just some fuzz and a “yeah” in between. |

The silent spot has been removed, try re-downloading from iTunes. |
| by Tanner in April 28 - 3:42 pm |
Haha, yeah, the really long silent spot where Kimmy was talking about Haymitch and was just like, “Yeah…” was a bit awkward. But, this is by far my favorite podcast. I was a little worried about the chapter-by-chapter thing because I really hoped you guys wouldn’t go “Ok, this entire podcast is chapter one. Chapter two is in the next one.” Handling them in chunks is very nice. The chapter-by-chapter also allows us to dig into the book even more and raises a bunch of questions. I really like how you guys talked about the mine explosion, because I was thinking the same thing, with it being staged. JD also brought up a theory that I was thinking about as well. With the whole conspiracy being set up well beforehand and Katniss just being the poster girl of it. I think that it’s Madge’s mom, who’s sister was also sent to be killed in the Games. Can’t wait for the next one! |
| by Freeta in April 28 - 4:17 pm |
That was quick! |

I have thought about why the districts have absolutely no communication between each other and it think it’s to keep them separated and to keep the capitol in power because if they could communicate, they could also rebel against the Capitol very fast and very easily because u know ignorance leads to segregation and therefore complete isolation. therefore, it is impossible(well, almost, as shown in Catching Fire) to start an uprising. |
| by Jessica in April 28 - 5:48 pm |
I like the music from the beginning of this episode =) It seems so fitting!! |
| by J in April 29 - 7:29 am |
1-7 was best. sounds so hunger games ish |
| by Kara in April 29 - 6:07 pm |
I thought it was strange that you guys didn’t like the name Katniss at first. Granted, its odd, but i thought it was at least original. Anyone can write a book about a Bella or an Edward, but it takes some originality to come up with a story about a Katniss or a Peeta. |
| by C J in April 30 - 2:45 pm |
OK so they were talking about why the fence isent on all the time. Here is why ELECTRICITY COSTS MONEY! She talks about in the book how they dont have it on because they dont have enough electricity she even seid some thimes the power will go out in the city randomly, so wht are they going to do write to the capital and ask for more? no they will save the power for homes isnsted of the gate. sorry just had to get that out of my system. O and the book you are thinking of is Runing Out of Time, im in 8th grade hahah |
| by bookworm from sweden in May 01 - 8:10 am |
the 1-7 songs were the best! is the next chapter by chapter 4-6 or just 4? and to when are we reading it? u never said that in the podcast, about the next reading-thing… XD |
| by TheBookAddict in May 01 - 7:23 pm |
I have a feeling that Peeta was crying because he was the original “symbol” of the rebellion. Prim was chosen so Petta would win, but when Katniss volunteered the rebellion changed their mind. They chose to use Katniss as the “symbol” and this meant the Peeta needed to die. |
| by JIA!!! in May 03 - 5:27 pm |
Ohmygosh. If Katniss’s dad is still alive… |

I’m responding to what is probably the least important issue brought up in this podcast. When you guys were talking about how Effie Trinket is always referred to by her full name, and not just Effie. I think it has to do with her Panem media role. She serves as a guide to what is going on in the Hunger Games. She’s always there to lead the people in the games where they need to go. But mostly, she’s known as the commentator at the Games. She announces the winner, does play-by-plays, and makes sure everything is publicized. I kinda see her as the Ryan Seacrest of Panem. No one EVER just calls him Ryan. He’s always Ryan Seacrest, just as Effie Trinket is always Effie Trinket. (P.S. If this post makes no sense, blame the fact that I’m on my netbook under the hot sun. Haha. Not proofreading.) |

Disclaimer: I’m sorry if I ramble because I actually wrote down my reactons and connections I made while listening to the podcast, so I remember everything. I really liked this episode for a number of reasons. Firstly, it wasn’t just a regurgitation of your website content as some of the other Jabberjays episodes tended to be. I have mockingjay.net set as my homepage and so I don’t need to hear everything that I read everytime I open my browser. Although, I do like hearing the music breaks because I don’t always have the means to listen to the songs on the site. Secondly, I really liked Lori’s insight and the new perspective she brought to the podcast, being a mother and slightly older than Kimmy, JD, Becka, and Andrew. I like the new intro/outro music better. It sets a more upbeat tone for the podcast. It definitely seems as if District 12 has reverted or regressed in terms of how technologically advanced their society is, or how it’s allowed to be. Great analysis on that. If Gale was in love with Katniss as some people think, do you think he had been in love with her for a while by the start of Hunger Games or do you think he had just realized it/come to terms with it? Also, do you think other people think that Gale and Katniss have something going on because they spend so much time in the woods alone, or are they aware that Gale and Katniss have a platonic relationship? I absolutely LOVED all of the conspiracy theories, especially the one concerning Katniss’s dad not being dead and in District 13. I never have good theories on book series so I love to hear other people’s thoughts. like on Jabberjays. It gets me thinking the same way Mugglenet got me thinking for Harry Potter – so congrats! Becka, did you ever figure out what book you were thinking of? I’ve read it too and I *thought* it was by Caroline B. Cooney, but I couldn’t find anything that sounded like it on any list of books by her. If you figure it out, it’d be great if you could let me know. I’m SunsetJello on Twitter. =] I’m guessing Katniss is sixteenish? For some reason I imagined her as a tad younger – like maybe a mature fifteen? The Capitol keeps the districts from communicating with each other because communication fosters thought, and THAT could lead to full-scale rebellion. it’s the same kind of censorship as in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. In F451, they burn books and just watch TV all day, because the government is afraid that if they read books they’ll get ideas and launch a revolt. They don’t trust people to think. in Panem they don’;t trust people to communicate, and really books are a form of communication as well, so it’s along the lines of the same concept. For some reason, I always imagined the Capitol accent as, like, ehmahgawd total Valley Girl!!!! It seems to fit their personalities and priorities, and Katniss describes the accent as having lots of verve and enthusiasm, if I remember correctly. However I do see where your coming from; it IS very hard to imagine accents. Whoa, I DEFINTELY didn’t know Kimmy was born in South Africa. How cool! =D With the whole questioning Madge’s intentions discussion, I don’t think that Katniss doesn’t give herself so much the CREDIT for the rebellion as the BLAME. It’s not as if she’s exactly proud or boastful of her role. Wrapping up, this episode was EXCELLENT and I’m really happy to see Jabberjays evolve into a great podcast. I can really tell you’re getting your footing. Great job and I’m anxiously awaiting the next episode! =] |
| by Andrea in May 15 - 3:53 pm |
Amazing job, guys! This episode is definitely my favorite right now. I personally prefer this intro music you have used. I agree with what some people say of Kesha’s Tik Tok, and for HG, I would really like not to think of her, just because she has nothing to do with it, ha. Anyway, keep up the excellent work. I’m looking forward to more long, long episodes with thought-provoking discussions like this. You guys seriously made my day. I cannot wait for Mockingjay! |

I just want to comment on the political distinctions you talked about– not because it has any real relevance to the books, but because of all the real world political controversies going on these days, I feel compelled to correct any misconceptions. What goes on in North Korea and Panem is totalitarianism. Communism is a form of socialism, which both are essentially about how capitalism is inherently unfair and unequal, and that everyone–not just the rich–should have access to things like education, technology, and healthcare, thus giving them a real, fair chance to reach their potential. Neither require (and ideally don’t entail) any kind of dictatorship. They get a bad name because throughout the 20th century, a number of power-hungry people used the Communist and socialist movements to seize absolute power in their countries. This had nothing to do with the ideas socialism and Communism espouse, and everything to do with how many people were behind those ideas. But once those people took power, they turned their back on all the ideals and became the same, if not worse, than the systems they overthrew. Read George Orwell’s “Animal Farm”– this is all what that book is basically about, only using the microcosm of a farm and its animals as a metaphor. These days, most European countries are at least partially socialist, and they remain as democratic as ever. And that’s your political science lesson of the day! |

Hey guys! I finally caught up with the latest episode! You guys are doing a great job with the podcast. The intro for this episode is really nice and original – I’ve never heard it before. It sounds really nice and has a certain epic-ness to it. When I heard it an image of an arena containing a vast grassland appeared in my mind. So yeah, I vote for Manju. |

i loved all the podcasts you posted. they were great. but i just cant decide if i’m on team Peeta or team Gale. Katniss has known gale longer and has built a stronger relationship with him, but Peeta has given Katniss sooo much as in saving her life three times if you count the bread and both games. so idk what team i’m on. what about you? |
