![]() Who do you think should direct The Hunger Games movie, and why? |

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
| by Sean in May 19 - 6:22 am |
I’m tempted to say Tim Burton, so that it’s a little creepy like the book, but I’m also temped to say Steven Spealburg (I know I butchered his last name) so that the movie is epic! |
| by Jacqueline in May 19 - 7:44 am |
I think the director of “Avatar” (James Cameron?) should direct The Hunger Games. He made Avatar so fantastic futuristic. He is the master of Science-Fiction xD |
| by Katie in May 19 - 8:03 am |
I agree with Jacqueline in the “Avatar” director as the director for “The Hunger Games”. I am keeping my eyes open for more people, though. |
| by Julie in May 19 - 8:53 am |
I think the director Tim Burton should direct the movie |
| by L-M in May 19 - 9:40 am |
Well, Tim Burton is a genius, I absolutely love him! But.. I don’t think he’s the one for HG. He’s the best at movies like Alice in Wonderland or Sleepy Hollow or Edward Scissorhands, but HG .. I don’t know. It definetly sgould NOT be Spielberg. No way! It may be James Cameron, I agree. He’s good. |
| by Libby in May 19 - 1:53 pm |
Steven Spielberg could totally do it. Even though Tim Burton is my ultime favorite movie maker, he is more creative, and I know this is not his style of movie. |
| by rina in May 19 - 3:32 pm |
Tim Burton is amazing….but not for this movie. James McTeigue is a good director. He directed one of my favorites, V For Vendetta…slightly similar themes…Christopher Nolan (Dark Knight), J.J. Abrams (Mission Impossible III, Star Trek, LOST, Fringe) or Jerry Bruckheimer…but I’m leaning more towards Abrams or McTeigue. |
| by rina in May 19 - 3:34 pm |
James Cameron would probably need a big budget though…But I’d add him to my list. |
| by Katie in May 19 - 3:46 pm |
Alfonso Cuaron or Steven Spielberg! James Cameron never does book-to-movies as he pretty much writes his own scripts. So, I doubt even if there was an epic budget and, like, seven years to make the movie he’d do it. Alfonso Cuaron directed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as well as A Little Princess, two of my favorite movies ever! I didn’t see his newer film, Children of Men, but apparently it was both epic and apocalyptic! |
| by Gee in May 19 - 3:56 pm |
Either Alfonso Cuaron or Kathryn Bigelow |
| by Tyler in May 19 - 4:20 pm |
i think Peter Jackson(i think) the director of Lord of the Rings would be SO awesome! |
| by Ari in May 19 - 4:32 pm |
hmm…I think Tim Burton could be pretty cool…but I say the Avatar guy would totally be The Best!!! I mean, hes only ever done two movies, and theyve both been sooo popular!! So I dont think hed d it – he can probably retire now, and anyway, last time there was a huge gap between Titanic and Avatar, so he probably wouldent go back so soon. But hes done so well on his other movies, and he spends a LOT on graphics(!), so I think hed do really well. Especially since, like Avatar, herd need to be those graphics to make it really futuristic and stuff:) |
| by Ari in May 19 - 4:37 pm |
oh, and, my friend wants to play Katniss in the movie! She was already the main girl in a movie, ‘Only’ – check it out on youtube! |
| by BlackRoseOpal in May 19 - 5:03 pm |
James Cameron. no question about it. James Cameron yes has long movies, but he makes them work! |
| by district12 in May 19 - 5:20 pm |
James Cameron… well, he’s got futuristic, and the publicity, plus could get a nice fat budget and AMAZING special effects, which is perfect for both HG and the whole series |
| by Jess in May 19 - 5:24 pm |
Tough one! I’d have to go with Joss Whedon (even though he usually writes everything he directs) since he specializes in really intersting, strong, awesome heroines. He’s also good at emotional scenes that have pathos but aren’t sappy. |
| by maddy in May 19 - 5:26 pm |
i hace absolutely no idea. how do all of you know all these directers? |
| by EmMockingjay! in May 19 - 5:34 pm |
I don’t know if Tim Burton’s such a good idea, I mean he tends to twist stories and things like that. He’s the more creative type. I’m going with James Cameron from Avatar. Steven Spielberg could pull it off, too! |
| by zil in May 19 - 5:37 pm |
i think james cameron could pull it off to i mean he is really good withaction sceans |
| by Jen in May 19 - 6:10 pm |
I have to agree with Katie and say Alfonso Cuaron. Not for PoA but for Children of Men. If you haven’t seen this movie you should check it out. It also features a grim future and has this gritty, bloody feel to it. I love how his movies are visually stunning but still carry an epicness, Other director picks would be Guillermo del Toro, director of Pan’s Labrynth. I might be alone in this but wouldn’t this story be a fabulous Anime movie or even a Square-Enix game? |
| by Zach in May 19 - 6:21 pm |
I don’t have a big opinion on it just someone who won’t make a bunch of changes to the plot/scences. |
| by Anonymous in May 19 - 6:28 pm |
I think James cameron, he’s so good at sci fi and based on avatars succes i’d think that he wouldn’t ruin it. |
| by Katie in May 19 - 6:32 pm |
Jen, I’m not sure as I don’t know much about anime, so I won’t embarrass myself by commenting. Also, I have to disagree with James Cameron. The man is a genius and a fabulous director who pulls off amazing, high-budget movies, but his movies are his babies; he writes them and brings him to life himself. He doesn’t do book-to-movie adaptations. I also agree with Peter Jackson! He did such a great job with the LOTR trilogy, and I can’t wait to see what he does with The Hobbit. |
| by Abe in May 19 - 7:01 pm |
Hugh Jackman and Chuck Norris to make it doubly EPIC. |
| by Kristi in May 19 - 8:52 pm |
JJ Abrams |
| by Morgan_Mellark in May 19 - 8:56 pm |
I agree with Jacqueline. The director for the HG movie should definitely have done a movie with lots of special effects. |
| by Mackenzie in May 19 - 9:07 pm |
Steven Spielberg |
| by Emmie Gunderson in May 19 - 9:27 pm |
i like the person who did Lord of the Rings |
| by Katie in May 19 - 10:24 pm |
Kristi, I think Abrams could do it, as well. I am one of the few people who haven’t seen LOST (and there’s no point in tuning in now), but I did see Star Trek which I loved! |
| by BlackRoseOpal in May 19 - 10:28 pm |
OH, Peter Jackson would do a phenomenal job! Look at what he did with Lord of the Rings! Amazing. I think probably even better than James Cameron |
| by Nikki in May 19 - 10:28 pm |
GOSH! I REALLY WANTS JAMES CAMERON. |
| by Nikki in May 19 - 10:36 pm |
Sorry for the bad grammar. I was doing something while typing this. THis is what I meant to say: GOSH I REALLY WANT JAMES CAMERON. It’s like the possibility of having Hugh Laurie as Haymitch. |
| by Maartje in May 20 - 3:00 am |
well Emmie, I agree it should not be Catherine Hardwick directing this movie, but Chris Weitz would not be too bad I think. I mean, he stayed really true to the books in New Moon and made a terrific movie out of it with really great CGI. The wolves were absolutely amazing! I think the hunger games really need a lot of special effects as well so I think he would fit the job! |
| by GHA in May 20 - 3:54 am |
david yates. directed harry potter |
| by Sky in May 20 - 10:55 am |
I like Peter Jackson or Joss Whedon for director as they both have the talent and the mindset for this kind of thing. Jackson has worked with special effects and Whedon has done dystopian scifi. Also if Megan Fox (who looks to old for the part) plays Katniss I will not go and see the film for sure. If someone in their 20s plays the part they have to look around 16, she looks 27 to me (I’m the same age as her and I look 17). |
| by Jill in May 20 - 11:22 am |
NOT ANY twilight directors PLEASE I hate them they are so stupid and cheesy. And no one too well known I don’t think they would focus on story but more of effects I want someone who has done movies but isn’t too well known who would give equal attention to story, acting, and effects. I mean the story is the most important to me. |
| by Sky in May 20 - 12:00 pm |
Well Chris Weitz isn’t that bad, he did The Golden Compass and is known more for his serious films then for New Moon. His brother is a great director to (Paul Weitz), but I think they need to stay away from the Twilight Saga directors because of how badly they messed up those books. James Cameron isn’t going to direct even if we want him to as he only directs his own original works. After rewatching the Russian movie Night Watch I like the idea of Timur Bekmambetov directing (he did Wanted, Night Watch, Day Watch, a bunch of music videos) or Terry Gilliam (because I’m a Monty Python freak and I love his style). |
| by bookworm in May 20 - 12:46 pm |
David Yates (Harry Potter) and Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) might be good. As long as he or she makes HG dark enough and faithful to the book, I’m good with whoever it is. |
| by bookworm in May 20 - 12:48 pm |
David Yates (Harry Potter) or Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) might be good. As long as he or she make the movie dark enough and faithful to the book, I’m good with whoever it is. |
| by Katie in May 20 - 2:37 pm |
Hmm, not sure about David Yates. I do love the Harry Potter movies (a lot), but I think he’s still too involved with the series at the moment to work on and dedicate enough attention to Hunger Games movie which is still in its early stages. |
| by xxVioletxx in May 20 - 4:13 pm |
David slade |
| by Anonymous in May 20 - 4:45 pm |
Lol quentin tarintino he will make the action scenes epic or james cameron he’s a genius ! |
| by Team Undecided in May 20 - 4:53 pm |
Honestly, I don’t see what the big fuss is about who directs it. As long as whoever it is doesn’t completely ruin the plot line and such, then I think we’ll be ok. Besides, Suzanne Collins is writing the screenplay, isn’t she? So, even if we’re stuck with a crappy director, which I don’t think will happen, Collins’s screenplay might just save it. |
| by AnitaName in May 20 - 5:16 pm |
STEVEN SPEILBERG!!!!! …? |
| by Annie in May 20 - 5:26 pm |
What about cathrine hardwich |
| by hannah in May 20 - 5:45 pm |
i think tim burton and james camron should direct it together i think thts an awsome mix!! |
| by andrea in May 20 - 6:08 pm |
stay true to the book |
| by tawni in May 20 - 6:25 pm |
anyone but the director that done the twilight saga, no offense but it sucked the books *thumbs up* |
| by Burning Dusk in May 20 - 6:38 pm |
either chris weitz (great effects in new moon but i agree with tawni, it couldve been better) or the director to percy jackson (again awesome effects). Definitely not catherine hardwicke. im sorry but she just makes everyone look like depressed morons… |
| by District 13 in May 20 - 8:55 pm |
Alfonso Curon ( Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) or maybe David Yates ( Harry Potter 5-7) |
| by Joker09 in May 20 - 9:21 pm |
Does anyone know the budget?… People keep naming these amazing directors but will Lionsgate be able to get them?… As long as it’s someone that stays true to the book, I’ll be happy |
| by Rachel in May 20 - 9:21 pm |
peter jackson, the guy that did lord of the rings. that movie was epic. even though some semi major thing were change, mostly in battle sence to make them more epic, but about 80% of the time he stayed true to the book. he works on a big scale and that make VERY good movies!!!!!! |
| by Dean in May 20 - 11:41 pm |
Peter Jackson |
| by Christine in May 21 - 12:20 am |
Actually, I believe that the director from District 9, Neill Blomkamp, would be a perfect fit (and not just because of the title coincidence!). District 9 had a perfect balance of fast-paced action and emotional development, and it was filmed in a documentary way that seemed very realistic. He would be AMAZING directing the Hunger Games. |
| by Jen in May 21 - 12:58 am |
Oh Yeah, definitely Neill Blomkamp. I think that would be a fantastic fit. I loved District 9. Has he done anything else? |
| by Kyle in May 21 - 8:28 am |
JAMES CAMERON ALL THE WAY! Only because he made one of the best movies of this decade. And because he has directed animation that could make this movie AMAZING! |
| by Sky in May 21 - 10:18 am |
I’ve changed my mind definitely the director of District 9 that would be brill. He has only done low budget type films but the effects were fantastic and he would be great for The Hunger Games and Peter Jackson could produce like he did for District 9 |
| by TRISH in May 21 - 11:15 am |
I TOTALLY GO FOR DAVID SLADE! The Hunger Games has a certain maturity and ore in it that he can execute extremely well! |
| by evie in May 21 - 12:11 pm |
I like the idea of Alfonso Curon. I thought that Harry Potter 3 (which is my favorite of all harry potter) did a good job all round and I thought it had a dark ambiance to it. Has he done anything more grown up? James Cameron, mhhh. I didn’t think the story line to Avatar was all that original it reminded me of Dances with Wolves and I hate that movie. The Graphics were amazing though but any one can have great graphics with that kind of budget. I think people are looking for too big of directors. |
| by by any other name in May 21 - 12:56 pm |
peter jackson. Not only can he do a good action sequence, but he gets great performances out of his actors, which is going to be imperative for keeping HG from becoming a bloody, violent, mess. Also, anyone who can not only keep his audiences riveted for what is essentially a twelve hour epic featuring orlando bloom wearing a long blond wig can probably do just about anything. |
| by dena in May 21 - 4:32 pm |
quentin tarintino…. maybee |
| by Katie in May 21 - 4:34 pm |
Hmm, I’m not sure about David Slade. He’s done primarily music video directing, and only three different movies, Eclipse being the latest. I think the District 9 guy would be a pretty good fit, though, as his films are about in the same genre. |
| by bookworm in May 21 - 4:37 pm |
the guy who did children of men |
| by Katie in May 21 - 5:37 pm |
That’d be Alfonso Cuaron! |
| by TEAM PEETA in May 21 - 6:28 pm |
I think that if James Cameron did it, it would be totally epic, but also, I would consider Michael Bay, he’s great with CGI effects, which is something that this movie needs and also he has done futuristic movies before like The Island. I can also suggest Brett Ratner, I think that he’s been the director of the X-Men movies and I, Robot (if I’m not mistaken) so there are many options, but I think that we can all agree that has to be someone that has had experience with science-fiction. |
| by Torrance K in May 21 - 7:45 pm |
I spent a long time thinking about this and diced on ZACK SNYDER!!!!!!! his directed 300 and he also directed Watchmen. that’s everything right there. if he directed it would be visually really cool and different, and and high tech as that horrible director James Cameron. Also he wont shy away from the violence and he can handle long films of adaptations. |
| by sidney in May 21 - 10:14 pm |
James Cameron no doubt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| by Gee in May 21 - 10:34 pm |
Um, no to James Cameron. His ego is too big and the movie would only be known because/for him, not the actual story. |
| by Katie R. in May 21 - 11:26 pm |
I agree with Gee. James Cameron will make people want to see the movie because of him, not the actual story. If that wasn’t the case, he would be a good choice. I think David Yates. I mean, when he did Harry Potter..wow. I just think he would incorporate the perfect amount of action that the movie needs, while still staying true to the book since he’s done book movies before. Oh, and I read the comment about Megan Fox. If she’s Katniss…I will be so mad. I mean, don’t get me wrong, she’s a good actress, but it’s like people will go for her. Ugh. I’m not seeing that movie is she is. Jeremy Sumpter should play Peeta. Or Austin Butler. People like that, who aren’t like mega famous should portray the part, or even someone unknown. Someone as big as Megan Fox will not work. |
| by Marie in May 22 - 1:59 am |
No! Peeta should be played by Alex pettifer! And Katniss by Kaya scodelario. I think Tim Burton will be a good director for the movie. I wanna be Rue! |
| by Anonymous in May 22 - 9:43 am |
yeah ditto and no to the first twilightdirector just my opinion |
| by Rhea in May 23 - 8:27 am |
i agree with Gee, too. |
| by Katie in May 23 - 11:18 am |
Rhea, and that’s my deal with Twilight directors. People will go simply because the the recognize the name as a Twilight director. Not that it’s a bad thing in every situation, especially with adult acting roles, but I want most of the movie to be fresh faces so people judge on merit of the film, not on who is in it or worked on it. |
| by Mel C. in May 23 - 12:12 pm |
I am rooting for David Yates on The Hunger Games. He’s good with effects (not that there are a lot in The Hunger Games) and working with a young adult cast. Yes, he directed a few Harry Potter films so that proves that he is worthy. Hunger Games going to be a WB movie, right? Or am I wrong? Not sure. But since the Potter franchise is WB, Yates is more likely to direct another WB film. I’m also all for anyone else who directed a Potter film like Chris Columbus (he also directed Percy Jackson, though that movie dodn’t do too well in the box office). James Cameron is a no along with Tim Burton. So is Hardwicke because her directing style is too free form with her camera angles. I wouldn’t mind if Peter Jackson directed it, though he’ll be busy with The Hobbit. Ok, that’s all. Bye. |
| by Rae in May 23 - 12:23 pm |
MEL C. the HG is going to be a lionsgate, not WB. well i’m crap in all this stuff so i’m not gonna give any ideas. though i would agree with MEL C. But i will have a nice surprise, hopefully. |
| by Alissa in May 23 - 1:03 pm |
I’m torn between |
| by Colleen in May 23 - 1:53 pm |
I know James Cameron did an awesome job on Avatar but Tim Burton’s not to bad ether well I guess we’ll have to wait and see. All I know is it should not be a Twilight director Catherine Hardwick was horrible. |
| by Katie in May 23 - 4:07 pm |
I think we can all agree that Twilight directors are probably not the best for the job, James Cameron would simply make this movie another James Cameron film, and that the director has to be qualified in sci-fi/futuristic/adventure films. |
| by Districy14 in May 23 - 7:19 pm |
I am calling for a tem up if Tim Burton for the creepy stuff in the books |
| by Districy14 in May 23 - 7:21 pm |
the XD is alaghing face idk why the emoticon didn’t show up maybe it’s xD |
| by Districy14 in May 23 - 7:21 pm |
guess not |
| by Districy14 in May 23 - 7:50 pm |
Alright so i was listening to the music monday playlist to hear all the songs, and the next music monday song should be Declaration by David cook because it’s about fighting against the whole world and only being able to fight because the person you love is fighting with you it really relates to Katniss and either Gale or Peeta, whoever it turns out to be in the end. Here’s a quote from the song “Are there any words to say that would ever mean enough, when the light runs from the day will the darkness be too much? Will I ever be enough? It’s my declaration to anyone who’s listening. Your my inspiration, as I stand alone against the world ’cause you love…” |
| by Districy14 in May 23 - 7:53 pm |
In the last line it is suposed to be “…Your’e my inpiration…” not “Your” and please choose the song because it really does relate. |
| by Sarah in May 25 - 8:41 pm |
I think Christopher Nolan should direct the Hunger Games movie. He directed the Dark Knight and I think that movie has the same kind of air around it. Kind of dark almost. Him or Tim Burton because Tim Burton is my favourite director and I think he would also fit the part perfectly. But I’m so excited that Suzanne collins will be the screenwriter because hopefully then it won’t end up bad like some movies that are made after books. Can’t wait for the movie!!! |
| by Bat in May 26 - 8:58 am |
Hello?!? what about M.Night Shyamalan, hopefully The Last Airbender will be epic, i think his views are dark enough for HG |
| by kaylee in May 29 - 12:59 am |
i think peter jackson would be perfect!!!! |
| by random in June 17 - 4:12 pm |
the guy who directed Star Trek (J J Abrams) or the guy who directed the first two Underworld movies (Len Wiseman)or the guy who directed the third Underworld movie (Patrick Tatopolous) |
| by misswriter in July 01 - 10:59 pm |
I say Nolan or Jackson. Peter Jackson more so because he has great respect for the writer and the original story. And he is simply great at what he does. Nolan is great with action though, so he is a great choice as well. Tim Burton would make it a little too weird, but he is still great with story and visualization. |
| by Finnick+Annie = in July 12 - 9:11 pm |
Anybody think Scorsese would make a good director? Shutter Island was pretty intense, im just sayin; I just wanna say that I dont think I mind who the director is, as long as they stay true to the book & cooperate with Suzanne’s vision |
| by anon in July 18 - 5:01 pm |
Chris Weitz would be amazing I’m not sure why people are saying james cameron or peter jackson, they would completely botch it. Quit throwing out names that you know just because you know they made ridiculous epic movies, do your research. |
| by Gina in July 21 - 4:14 pm |
i agree, James Cameron is not the right director. neither is Tim Burton, don’t get me wrong i love Tim Burton movies but i don’t think HG is his style. |
| by Hannah in July 21 - 11:00 pm |
hmmm… this is tricky. Actor-wise, I hope they pick either new actors or actors that at least look REMOTELY like the characters in the book. unlike Percy Jackson. I literally flipped when Annabeth didn’t have blond hair. -_____- ANYWAY… hmm…probably my best guess for Director would be David Slade, the guy who did District 9, or possibly Catherine Hardwicke. As much as I HATE David Slade, I think he would do a good job w/t this movie. hopefully. But I’m pretty open. thye just better do a damn good job, thats all xD |
| by Everglade Lizzil in August 06 - 1:11 pm |
I say James Cameron (Avatar), Sir Peter Jackson (LOTR, Lovely Bones, King Kong), or Chris Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception). The only problem is that James Cameron is working on Avatar 2, and Sir PJ is supposedly producing both Hobbit movies…and Chris Nolan is working on The Untitled Batman Project. OH! Or Guillermo Del Toro! He can do amazing puppets, which may sound lame, but would make amazing muttations at the end of HG, at the cornucopia. But, of course he’s supposedly working on Frankenstein already. |
| by Everglade Lizzil in August 06 - 1:24 pm |
Both Sir PJ and Del Toro would be faithful to the book. A lot of Ringers were bummend when Del Toro pulled out from directing The Hobbit. |
| by TimBurtonFan!! in March 22 - 9:13 pm |
I love Tim Burton (don’t get me wrong)!! but I like the Idea of the Avatar!!! THis series is the best I have ever read!! |
