Sounds a bit too far-fetched to me. Not to mention SC would have thousands of fans calling for her blood. This has never occurred to me before, anyone have any evidence? |
| by Tucker in May 27 - 1:30 am |
No way! Peeta loves Katniss more than anything in the world, and I’d throw the book down if he was on the Capitols side and hate him forever. |
| by Madison in May 27 - 4:00 am |
No way because Peeta helps Katniss and second if Peeta was he could have turned Katniss in at any moment so why didnt he.I also would feel bad for Peeta if it was to protect his family. |
| by JamieTHG in May 27 - 6:41 am |
NO!! he wouldn’t do that to katniss! |
| by Aino in May 27 - 6:53 am |
NO NO NO NO! Peeta loves Katniss and would never do that to her. |
| by becca in May 27 - 6:55 am |
I totally agree with all the comments so far. Even though I’m not a “Team Peeta” “Team Gale” or really a “Team” sort of person Peeta, I think is sincere and I believe that he truly loves Katniss though maybe we’re all wrong…I doubt it though. So over all, NO!!! |
| by becca in May 27 - 6:57 am |
stupid name didn’t work |
| by becca-loves-books in May 27 - 6:57 am |
there we go! |
| by Lauren in May 27 - 8:10 am |
Well, Maybe if he pretended to be as part of a strategy to stay alive, but that’s the only way I see that as possible. I believe he is true about how he feels about Katniss. At least, i really hope so, Gale doesn’t do it as much for me. I wouldn’t be surprised that because Suzanne Collins loves to add good twists. This has really given me something ti think about. THE BOOK CANNOT COME OUT SOON ENOUGH! |
| by Ida in May 27 - 8:16 am |
I don’t think so at all. There isn’t any proof in any of the books that have even made me even think about it. He is described as a person who is honest and sincere. I love him no matter what he does, and he has all my respect for being the person he is. I have no doubt about him. |
| by Katie in May 27 - 8:59 am |
I believe there is evidence. Even if it is very small. Peeta is very good at lying. Think to all of the times in both books that Peeta lied to people. He was very smooth about it. Maybe he was lying to all of us too. I have considered this theroy before. |
| by Olivia in May 27 - 9:04 am |
It’s interesting to think about, but under these circumstances I believe that it would make Peeta a sociopath. And trust me, unless he’s the best actor as well as being the best liar the world’s ever seen, he does not personify any other aspects of the disorder. Plus, Peeta for the most part is a calm, collected guy. He got really, really angry when he figured out exactly how much he’d been used in CF. So, while it’s an interesting theory to say the least (I actually have one going about Gale taking the Capitol’s side in Mockingjay in exchange for some things.), I just don’t think it’s true. |
| by Erin in May 27 - 9:14 am |
OMG this was my theory too….i think it could be possible, but not sure yet |
| by Freeta in May 27 - 9:15 am |
No. That is simply a backstabbing I wouldn’t be able to handle, plus, he would have started working for them REALLY early! The song she sang in 1st grade could have been taped so he could have been told to use that later on, but he gave her the bread and took a beating for her. They were only 11 at the time, I don’t think even the Capitol could plan that far ahead. Who could possibly know that she would become so important in the rebellion? And that 6 years before it actually happened… I would be heartbroken if this theory proved to be correct, I’d never forgive Peeta for it, I couldn’t love him. |
| by Anna in May 27 - 9:58 am |
I would be heartbroken if this theory proved to be true either… But I need to admit that there is a little evidence that could make this real! |
| by Mrs.Peeta Mellark in May 27 - 11:10 am |
NO!!! Peeta would NEVER do that to Katniss….he turly loves her! If this theory is correct I would hate Peeta forever! |
| by Abe in May 27 - 11:36 am |
This is, by far, the stupidest idea since Justin Beiber. |
| by Abe in May 27 - 11:37 am |
Seriously. |
| by Amber in May 27 - 12:25 pm |
Oh wow, if this were true, I would lose faith in a lot of my favourite YA authors…to so completely change a character like that after you’ve endured so much with that character. Yeah, I don’t think he’s on the capitol’s side. Can we just bask in the purity of Peeta’s love, and not make it something so self-seeking and ugly?? |
| by BlackRoseOpal in May 27 - 12:43 pm |
That seems like a bit of a stretch. |
| by Natasha Rogue in May 27 - 1:00 pm |
that’s just not logical. I can see the Capital brainwashing him, yes, but on his own? Peeta’s mesed with the Capital too. They will try to use him against Katniss, but I think he’ll manage to find a way to help himself and her. Katniss and Peeta always managee to be each other’s hero. I can’t wait to see it happen again |
| by Abe in May 27 - 1:01 pm |
Everyone is coming out with these silly, far-fetched theories about the third book and making everything more complicated then it’s supposed to be. |
| by Jade in May 27 - 1:11 pm |
Well, i’ve got to admit that I have thought about this before. But then when I go back and read, I feel bad I ever did. Im not on a “team” of sorts, but I dont think that Petta would have done that. There is a little bit of evidence to support this, but more against it. I dont think it could happen, but if it did, I would be highly upset. I’ve had so many theories like this that I just want the book to come out at this very moment so my imagination will leave me alone |
| by Abe in May 27 - 1:14 pm |
Oh, and why would Peeta be on the Capitol’s side anyway? It wouldn’t benefit him at all. And when, exactly, would Peeta have decided to be on the Capitol’s side? The timeline doesn’t match up and it doesn’t make any sense. |
| by Jacqueline in May 27 - 1:26 pm |
Honestly, I hate the idea, but I think that it really could be possible. Peeta is a good liar. Yet, he loves katniss. Do you think he would stop to even think before joining their side in exchange for katniss’s safety? While being captured I believe that he could easily be swayed to join thier side for katniss’s saftey. He never really even showed a real love of the rebellion. He even said he run away in a second. I hate it, but I think it could happen, and that they would eventually kill peeta and katniss. |
| by Rhea in May 27 - 1:35 pm |
i’m sorry, but the words ‘Peeta’ and ‘manipulating’ just CANNOT go in the same sentence! |
| by Annah in May 27 - 1:36 pm |
No, i don’t think that Peeta would do that. When he said, “Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to… to show the capitol they don’t own me. That I’m more than a piece in their games”. I really believed him when he said that, so I think he’s totally against the Capitol. |
| by ANNA in May 27 - 1:44 pm |
That does seem a little out there. I think that he truly loves Katniss, as he wasnt ever pretending during the games. If SC puts that in the 3rd book, because I am a “Team Peeta” person. Lol. To many twists, get frustrating hahaha. |
| by bookworm in May 27 - 2:04 pm |
ommj… I think Peeta does love Katmiss, but what if he was on the capitol’s side? (shivers) |
| by Olivia in May 27 - 2:45 pm |
I agree with Annah. Seriously, Peeta hates being used and manipulated as much as the next guy and because he’s so trusting, it happens to him frequently. He’s been played by pretty much everyone, but mostly by the Capitol. Thus, I can’t see him wanting to align with them. |
| by Rooie in May 27 - 3:01 pm |
oh no!! i really hope not! but it seams totally likley… waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! :,( |
| by deeds in May 27 - 3:02 pm |
bahahaha @Abe. That’s awesome. I agree with 98% of the comments though. No way Peeta’s on the side of the Capitol. I must say when I saw this was the topic via Twitter earlier I thought “no way to Peeta but what about Gale?….” He has always struck me as maybe a little fishy. I don’t know but I can’t imagine that SC would do that after all she’s invested in the love story between K and P. I do know one thing though: can’t WAIT for the third book |
| by JamieTHG in May 27 - 3:08 pm |
yah i agree with all of you awesome guys that think peeta is awesome and would not do that |
| by likesunset in May 27 - 3:30 pm |
How would he have even gotten involved with the Capitol??? He’s a kid from District 12!! Not only that, but why would the Capitol kill their spy? When they revoked the rule change, Peeta told Katniss to shoot. He would have died if she’d done it! Would they really risk that? Thus we can deduce that he’s in love with Katniss and not working for the Capitol, making it impossible for him to have “switched teams” during CF at any time. Goodness, I think people are just so set out to find something wrong in everyone, so you get a good character like Peeta and people assume he’s really the worst. |
| by Tanner in May 27 - 3:39 pm |
I’d like to think not, seeing as I back him up whenever my Gale-supporting friends insult him. But, I think that if this happens, it would only be because the Capitol is threatening or manipulating him against Katniss while he’s in captivity. This may lead to Katniss choosing Gale over Peeta, or Peeta actually dying. So Peeta’s still “good”, but manipulated or forced to do a bad thing. However, I still really hope I’m wrong and this doesn’t happen at all. |
| by Sami in May 27 - 3:39 pm |
oh my goodness if peeta betrays katniss i will never read these books again. |
| by Rae in May 27 - 3:41 pm |
Well besides people that spent all their days trying to find all sorts of ideas, theories and some seriously twisted ideas that make us all study every single word in the book, we all think that Peeta is a goody ! We will all have to wait for the book cos that’s the only think (besides SC, duh) that holds the answers. NO ONE CAN WAIT !!!! Aaahhhh. Stay good Peeta cos if you don’t, nothing can ! You are the pure definition of good. So please, don’t make everything we have ever stood for be a big fat lie. We know you can lie super easily but please not know ! |
| by Mandy in May 27 - 4:25 pm |
I don’t think Peeta would betray Katniss like that, but it is a very interesting theory. Peeta loved Katniss more than anything, and would he be willing to fight for the Capitol in exchange for Katniss’s safety? It’s not totally improbable. He’s never seemed as enthusiastic about the rebellion as Katniss is. However, I think Peeta’s smart enough to realize that just because the Capitol promises to protect Katniss doesn’t mean they really will. I don’t think Peeta is fighting for the Capitol, but maybe there is a slight possibility that he would… |
| by tk in May 27 - 4:30 pm |
Although peeta is good at lying, I don’t see how it would help the capitol if peeta was on their side. By using peeta as bait to draw katniss into a capitol stronghold, they provoke an attack that would happen anyway, thereby defeating the point. |
| by Batta Boo in May 27 - 4:38 pm |
Absolutley not! Peeta loves Katniss, he doesn’t hate her! Well, there is a possiblity that Peeta is jealous of Katniss and Gale, and *maybe* he betrays her…while he’s in the Capitol being held captive, or whatever it is that happens in the end of Catching Fire. But, I highly doubt it. |
| by TheObsession101 in May 27 - 4:51 pm |
So, first of all, I totally tweeted this EXACT topic to Mockingjay.net…..just saying…. I think it’s possible. I mean, this book will most likely end with her having neither Gale or Peeta. This makes sense. If Peeta gets into the resistance, kills Gale, and returns to the Capitol, Katniss might try to kill Peeta for revenge. It’d be an interesting twist. Even if Peeta isn’t on the Capitol’s side, they are using him as bait, and could’ve been building trust between them so he could lure her into a trap… |
| by Mespia in May 27 - 5:05 pm |
Ha ha another conspiracy theory. But I really think that this is something that is unlikely, and even if it did happen, I don’t think it would fit very well with the story. I would be angry. Sure, I’m not a big Peeta fan, but he seems very sweet and sincere. If he is manipulating Katniss, I’m certain that at least he isn’t aware of it. |
| by Moonshadow in May 27 - 5:11 pm |
Interesting, actually, Peeta is a great lier, even if he seems sincere and honest, he easily manipulates a crowd and even Katniss. Suzanne loves twists and tragedy, so who knows? Katniss will end up with either one or the other inevitably, so~ |
| by Kayle in May 27 - 5:14 pm |
No, no, no! I will not except that! I mean, if that was true (which it isn’t) I’m sure he would have a good reason. Like, to protect his family or something. Not like “I wanna use this girl and win! MWAHAHA! CAPITAL! MWAHAHA! POWER-HUNGRY!” Oh, and no, I would not like him anymore. He would’ve betrayed Ktniss, and more importantly, US, the readers. I’m sure a lot of fans would be crushed, just like me, if that happened…. Oh, but if he was on the Capital’s side, like some dude said, he would probably kill Gale the 1st chance he got. |
| by Taluthia in May 27 - 5:20 pm |
Can I shun someone for even thinking this? It hurts my soul quite a lot. |
| by Cecil in May 27 - 5:22 pm |
Nope he was a child when he gave her the bread and why would the capital invest a spy in someone that they didn’t know was a threat until Catching Fire. Still i prefer niether Peeta or Gale. I like Finnick!! |
| by HungerGamesFanatic in May 27 - 5:28 pm |
i dont think so and i REALLY hope not!!! that would be absolutely TERRIBLE!! he is NOT on the capitols side or all hell will break lose lol. |
| by HungerGamesFanatic in May 27 - 5:28 pm |
oh n id definitely hate peeta |
| by District 14 in May 27 - 5:36 pm |
I doubt it. It would contradict what he did as a child, giving her the bread and such. Now? I’m unsure if he could have changed so extremely since then to betray her. |
| by Ziebe07 in May 27 - 5:54 pm |
What the what!?!? |
| by Nikki in May 27 - 6:13 pm |
If this happens I will go use a time machine to go to the future. Slap Peeta in the face and warn him that there’s more of us coming. |
| by Nikki in May 27 - 6:14 pm |
I betcha JD is pretty offended by this question. |
| by Sarah in May 27 - 6:53 pm |
I don’t think he is trying to get Katniss on the Capitols side. I think he loves her and he’d do whatever she thought was right(within reason, of course!) Then again, you never know whats coming in a story like this…Oh, I am on both sides!! I don’t want to think he is but it would make a very intresting twist in the story! I don’t think it would, but now I’m almost hoping it will. I want to see how Katniss would react!! |
| by maddy in May 27 - 7:09 pm |
oh i sure hope not. i love peeta. he is like the best thing in there. other than everything else. a lot of my firesnds say gale is better but i dont know how they think that. he isnt really in the book too much. if he really was though i wouldnt like him much anymore. i would go over to gales side totally. |
| by Abe in May 27 - 7:27 pm |
Ooh, and one more thing before I forget: Manipulating Katniss to help the Capitol do what? I don’t know if anyone has noticed but the whole book is kinda about Katniss rebelling; not helping the Capitol. Duh. |
| by The Breeze in May 27 - 8:09 pm |
NO, NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS WOULD PEETA BE WITH THE CAPITOL!!! If he is, I will hate him. I still have always liked Gale better. Peeta is just too nice to be with the Capitol. He would have already killed Katniss if he was. Peeta has never been outside of District 12! |
| by all u people are stupid in May 27 - 8:27 pm |
this was the first thing i thought when i finished catching fire. some of you are saying when would peeta have swapped sides? when he was abducted by the capital! duh! peeta would definitely go against the resistance if he were convinced it was the only way to save katnis. |
| by all u people are stupid in May 27 - 8:28 pm |
think about it. |
| by Peetas Future Wife in May 27 - 8:34 pm |
i doubt it. its possible that they told him something when they were holding him captive…and he switched sides then… but not befor then…. |
| by Charlotte in May 27 - 8:46 pm |
if he is, he might really have fallen for Katniss at one time or another that’s why he hasn’t given her in or anything |
| by Team Peeta in May 27 - 8:51 pm |
i dont think peeta is working with the capitol. Even though he is a good lier he would never dp that. he loves Katniss and hates the capitol y would he go with the people that he hates and go against the people that he loves that doesnt really make sense. But, if at one point it does seem like he is with the capitol its not real he is probably faking it tio save Katniss or learn wat they r planning |
| by Sam in May 27 - 8:59 pm |
well, it’s possible, but i really hope not!!!! |
| by bookworm in May 27 - 9:20 pm |
oh, the horror! |
| by all u people are stupid in May 27 - 10:11 pm |
the last thing that happens in catching fire is peeta is taken by the capitol. they are going to convince peeta that helping the them is the only way to save katniss. and he will help the capitol for a while. |
| by Elizra in May 27 - 10:15 pm |
I don’t know…. It seems like he would never do that. Then again it would be pretty shocking. |
| by Heather C in May 27 - 10:17 pm |
this is a silly question. What on earth would he be doing that is subverting her to help the capitol. no sense whatsoever. |
| by Prisci in May 27 - 10:19 pm |
I think it’s possible, but I sure hope not! What I DO think is that Peeta has been in on the plans for the rebellion since he got into the games, or possibly even earlier than that. I’m not sure why, but I get that feeling. |
| by Mack in May 27 - 10:38 pm |
omg no way. peeta is way to nice. |
| by PackLeader in May 27 - 11:29 pm |
I totally agree with ALL U PEOPLE ARE STUPID. Very good points. |
| by Rilly in May 28 - 12:04 am |
you know, i don’t think he would do that but everyones sayong hat they would hate Peeta if he did that but… it would make me more intruged… well maybe thats because i love de bad boyz, *melts* |
| by Team Katniss in May 28 - 3:37 am |
believe it or not i have been thinking of this and actually is very probable. remember the kiss? with gale and the sundays in the woods and the cousins lie? my guess is that katniss’s and gale’s fathers were rebulutanaries along with haymitch but they didnt hide it as well got caught and killed by snow then katniss’s sister gets reaped a set up? what if peeta is the spy? what if peeta at first hated her family (katniss’s) because her mother rejected her father and was miserable enought to fall in love with her? what if she picks gale if she finds out? what if he kills gale or her sister or someone else and then out of revenge she kills him ending the rebellion instantly the rebels winning but she really did love him but had to do wut wuz right and she ends up ending her life now this would be an instant winner. and for all you STUPID PEETA FANS this is why we gale fans are not so STUPID we actualy face the facts INSTEAD of going around saying how we would like to marry peeta and let ur feelings get in way of the facts THIS is wut i find annoying not that u r peeta fans im OK with that as long as u face the facts. |
| by Team Katniss in May 28 - 3:50 am |
and BTW FOR PEETA FANS u r saying that gale may side up with da capitol R U KIDDING ME OR SOMETHING IN UR HEAD JUST POPPED!!!! gale HATES the capitol more than anything katniss says soo MANY MANY MANY times and gale is not fishy for anything i and someone else think peeta is the fishy misterios one |
| by Emilie in May 28 - 5:55 am |
It will be too easy. |
| by jessica in May 28 - 9:56 am |
no way peeta cant be working for the capitol thank about when gale was getting beat he stuck up for both of katniss and gale there is no possible way i would be pretty pissed even though i love gale but i mean i think peeta loves katniss way to much to even do that or that could have been the plan at first but he end up falling in love with her??? but overalll i dont think peeta would do that so No!!! |
| by Annie in May 28 - 11:28 am |
I love peeta. But i have to admitt this is such a good theory |
| by Bonnie in May 28 - 11:46 am |
If Peeta was working for the Capitol he would be good at conceling it. I wouldn’t be suprised if he was. i think this is true. I would hate him if he turn out to be an alli of the capitol |
| by Megan in May 28 - 11:56 am |
NO! My friend Tom thought of this theory months ago, because he’s a huge Team Gale and trying to convert me…yeah, not a chance Tom Peeta is in love with Katniss. I don’t know why this is so hard for people to understand, they say that he is “such a good actor” that he could be prettending but he is so not pretending. He’s loved her since they were little kids, before they could even dream about being in the Games! The only way he’s working for the Cap is if they brainwashed him, I don’t think that would happen. |
| by Olivia in May 28 - 12:39 pm |
The theory is highly implausable. You have to remember lying and manipulating on this big of a scale is actually a sign of being kind of crazy, i.e. being a sociopath. This is the kind of mental disease that most freaking serial killers have. Did Peeta ever come off as serial killer-ish to anyone? No, I think not. The thing is, Peeta’s just too naive to be able to pull something like this off. Besides, the Capitol has highly limited interaction with individuals in the District. The Capitol doesn’t give a carp about love-triangles between love-sick teenagers in D12. And, even if Peeta’s family was in the league with the Capitol, the children would be uninvolved because no matter how valuable they could hypothetically consider his parents, the kids are still fair game for the Reaping. |
| by all u people are stupid in May 28 - 4:02 pm |
dont you guys understand the peeta is working for the capital BECAUSE he loves katnis so much. |
| by cellogirll in May 28 - 6:10 pm |
Hmmm this is really interesting. Even though i dont like Peeta that much at first i was like NO WAY HE WOULD DO THAT. But after reading a few of the comments i guess it could be possible or at least and interesting twist. But, like Olivia said, Peeta isn’t just the lying sociopath type. |
| by maria in May 28 - 8:12 pm |
@team katniss SO DOES PEETA. peeta is always talking about how he doesn’t want to be “piece in their games”. and ever think of this? gale met katniss soon after her dad died. what if he is working for the capital? it doesn’t seem likely at all, but I don’t think you should be calling us “STUPID PEETA FANS.” |
| by rachel in May 28 - 8:27 pm |
O god, NO. i meen i hate his guts and all, well not hate because that’s a uselesses emotion but a resentment to. Maria, above me, is 100% right. gale, too, would never. and if peeta was being a flithy stinking traitor, it would be to protect katniss. and his parent would not be in on it because petta’s father love mrs. everdeen. and mrs. everdeen was hurt by katniss being in the games. which was because of the games. on, thw wicked witch of a wife, on the other hand…no i bet even shes not that evil. it would be an amazing plot twist. very interesting read then. o well, i guess we will wait and see! |
| by Mystery in May 28 - 11:09 pm |
i personally hope he isn’t!!! but i think its possible that he will be at least slightly brainwashed from being held captive in the capital (from the end of CF). I really don’t know but it might happen for the sake of the story! |
| by JamieTHG in May 28 - 11:24 pm |
@team katniss i am pretty sure suzanne collins did not write this book so gale fans could call peeta fans STUPID!! i think she would be very upset with anyone who would say that and btw GO PEETA!!!! TEAM PEETA!!! |
| by JamieTHG in May 28 - 11:30 pm |
omg i just thought of another theory and i’m not just saying this because i am a total peeta fan cuz i like gale too just not as much but what IF gale WAS allies with the capitol cuz remember when they were in the forest and he yelled i hate the capitol and such and you know now that there are cameras in the woods cuz P.Snow saw Gale kiss Katniss but Gale didn’t get killed by saying that about the capitol |
| by Blooming Katniss (Get It?) in May 29 - 1:14 am |
Peeta is a wonderful and loving guy, but he would join the capitol if he even thought for a split second that it would be the best for Katniss. Also, no I would not stop loving Peeta, I, truly, am a fan of Peeta and Gale, but in the trilogy I’m rooting for Gale. I would think that Peeta would join the capitol, but some people are taking a very good, and very possible idea, and twisting it so that it sounds like we’re pinning on to Peeta. Peeta would never selfishly give himself to the capitol. Ever. So, yes it’s very possible and actually a very good idea for the HG trilogy. Keep ‘em comin’ guys. Gale 4ever. |

And a shoutout to Team Katniss; tone it down, i agree with last paragraph, but still, okay. Go Gale Brah! Also, one thing i can’t stand about Peeta fans is that when they think of it they make it sound like Katniss is so sure that Peeta is the one that she doesn,t even think of Gale, but i’ve read Gale stories and it goes into deep thought and decision about whether it’s Gale or Peeta. (Gale obviously, i mean GALE story) Instead of just blindly BAM BANG I’m in LOVE!! It’s am i sure? am i sure? Will it hurt Peeta? Of course it will, but i love Gale, all that good stuff. Just make it so that it’s kinda like she thinks it through for a tough decision, not split second! |
| by Team Katniss in May 29 - 4:20 am |
Um.. shut out to peeta fans SORRY for a part of the last paragraph of the first post forgot to re-think it but the last sentence IS TRUE. |

did somebody say gale went unpunished!!! he was nearly whipped to death in CF. part of that beating could have been for screaming i hate the capitol. shout out to all u peeta and gale fans. i dont think katnis is going to choose peeta or gale. i dont think SC is going to pull a huge twilight like that |
| by Emma in May 29 - 11:20 am |
I think that Peeta may have originally been manipulating Katniss to survive the Games – as it was revealed in CF that all resources during the HG went to her and not Peeta because she was the one Haymitch wanted to survive. Therefore, Peeta could have been using her to survive. But no, I don’t think he is a CAPITOL spy – what would he get out of it? |

Of course not! If Peeta was working for the capitol he would’ve killed Katniss in the first games. He had plenty of chances. That theory makes no sense and is probaly just created by team Gales. |
| by Taluthia in May 29 - 3:04 pm |
I think we are starting our own little uprising right now at the thought of this. |
| by Mia in May 29 - 5:02 pm |
I dont think soo. he may because he could be lying.. i mean think about all the other times he has been lying |
| by Batta Boo in May 29 - 7:48 pm |
Maybe he could be using it as a diversion. Such as, he could give the Capitol false information. Being the great liar that he is, and the power he has to convince people, he could just be planning a diversion to have the Capitol’s attention on somewhere else. Peeta could just say Katniss is hiding in the Captiol or something, when she’s actually heading for District 13. But, we don’t even know if that’s happening or not. But I doubt he would betray Katniss for glory. There would have to be something behind it. Hope that all made sense. |
| by Ker in May 29 - 8:59 pm |
well if we all remember peeta told haymitch he would die so it wouldnt work also he kinda knew about the plan and the capitol would’nt be keeping him i think he kinda could but still love her??idk i highly doubt that he is manipulating her! |

Gale ftw! |
| by all u people are stupid in May 30 - 8:03 am |
what if when the capital abducts him (end of CF) they just kill him. and thats that |
| by TeamSCMustFinishWriting!! in May 30 - 8:42 am |
I don’t think Peeta has been working with the Capitol all along — he’s too sincere for that. But he was captured by the Capitol as of the end of Catching Fire … so maybe the Capitol will torture him and, not being used to harsh treatment, he will cave in and betray everyone else just so as not to be tortured. Hey, it could happen! That or the Capitol will just kill him. |
| by TeamSCMustFinishWriting!! in May 30 - 8:51 am |
Oh and I agree with Team Katniss … being a die-hard Gale fan … but I do think it was mean of her to say that on a public discussion. |
| by zil in May 30 - 9:28 am |
i’am new to the conversaion but i doute that peeta would ever do any thing that would put Katniss in danger |
| by zil in May 30 - 9:29 am |
p.s: i know this not about the conversation but is it possibel for katniss to find a new guy |
| by Ella Press in May 30 - 2:01 pm |
Oh my God, if this turns out to be true I’ll be mad at Peeta forever. |
| by Hanky in May 30 - 6:57 pm |
wow I HOPE not… but it actually IS very plausible, because from where we were left of in that HORRIBLE cliff hanger you had not utter idea which katniss will choose, gale or Peeta, so in Mockingjay there would have to be something that makes her turn to one or the other, so that would be something that could happen. BUT it doesn’t have to be Peeta, it could be as easily Gale, if the capitol caught him or something and manipulated Katniss and Peeta’s romance and got him all mad at Katniss he could turn on her though in the end, which ever one turns (IF one does) than they would probably die by saving Katniss to show here their sorry… |
| by majorgaleet in May 30 - 9:24 pm |
I really really REALLY doubt it. Do you remember when they (Katniss and Peeta) were in the first games and he told her about when he first fell in love with her? He said that it was the first day of kindergarten. She was wearing some dress that he described (quite well for being 10 years ago) and that she stood up on a chair and sang a song that I guess she learned from her dad (remember he hadn’t left yet). Now, I don’t remember whether or not she remembered what dress she was wearing that day, but I do believe she remembered standing on a chair and singing. And as far as I know, most people aren’t psychic and don’t plan 10 years ahead and make sure they remember what dress they’re supposed love interest was wearing the first day of kindergarten. Okay, you can believe whatever you want about Peeta, but I, even though I’m a fan of Gale, happen to believe that Peeta is a good guy with nothing but a plan to protect Katniss. |
| by Amber in May 30 - 10:56 pm |
Well, I certainly think that it is TOTALLY possible that Peeta will betray Katniss… & this is coming from someone who is Team Peeta. Honestly, it just seems like it is likely to happen… and if Peeta doesn’t betray her, then Gale will. Why? Well, would it make sense if I said that just seems like the natural way for the story to flow? SOMEONE has to betray Katniss, just because what else would make the story interesting? Consider this: She already has the support of all of Panem, and if they all rebel, then they win the war against the Capitol, and whoop-de-doo, the story is done. That isn’t fun. Nor is it surprising… & we all know how Suzanne Collins loves her surprises… Now, consider this: The war begins, & the revolution is rapidly gaining strength, when suddenly something goes horribly wrong… Everything stops working, something happens to Katniss, the symbol of the revolution… & why? Because someone betrayed her, OR they used one of her own relationships against her. Now she has to go through countless & unimaginable struggles to destroy the Capitol whilst keeping herself, her family, and her relationships intact. Now THAT makes an interesting story. In the end, either someone is going to betray her (very possibly Peeta, or maybe even Gale) or the Capitol will torture someone or something, using that against her. And that’s what I think. (: |
| by luis in May 30 - 11:39 pm |
NO WAY… that would ruin the story plot completely, you can tell that peeta truly loves katniss and that he would never do anything to hurt her, another reason that i think that supports my thought is that peeta always tried his hardest to protect katniss in the hunger games |
| by majorgaleet in May 31 - 2:18 pm |
@Amber–I see your point, but don’t you think it’s more likely that someone not as attached, but still someone that Katniss doesn’t mind being around would betray her? Maybe Effie. She may seem clueless on the outside, but that could be a show. Just because she’s from the Capitol, doesn’t necessarily mean that she can’t think for herself. That could be why she was chosen to be the District 12 representative from the Capitol. |

Hey if you didn’t like my last music monday suggestion back when I commented unger the name district 14 (Declaration, David Cook) I got another Young by Hollywood Undead I discovered it on a YouTube video of the people someone wants to play the cast of the Hunger Games movie and it totally fits the whole theme of fighting in a broken world to make it better therefore it relates to Catching Fire so there. |

I don’t like how gale fans are telling peeta fans to *face the facts* I am team gale but that still is pretty annoying. Just cuz ur gale fans doesn’t mean that ur facing the facts and peeta fans aren’t. Think about it, it makes no sense. How would it be betrayal if peeta might join the capitol for katniss’ safety. That’s just highly impossible, maybe someone not that close. |
| by teampeeta4eva in June 14 - 4:23 pm |
ok im goin through the hunger games for the 4th time and i NEVER even thought of peeta on the capitals side theres no way it could even happen he loves he and besides sc would never do that…she knos tons of people love peeta and she might lose a lot of fans. |
| by teampeeta4eva in June 14 - 4:25 pm |
i ment he loves katniss |
| by hunger games in June 16 - 11:08 am |
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!! i already have Mockingjay planned out, and it involves Peeta and Katniss getting married, and Gale…havent figured him out, but he might die:( but this will totally and completely ruin my plans, so it WILL NOT happen. will now go rock back and forth in a chair with my hands over my ears going “la la la la la” to erase this possibility from my mind. plus, do you think Susan Collins would really do this us? ok, well she might, but it would be like in the 7th harrry potter when Fred dies. a total and complete shock. i almost wanted to stop reading after that, and i think i will stop reading if peeta does this. but, i think that at this point, susan collins is as in love with peeta as we all are right now (except for you “team gale” folks). i think a more likely theory is that peeta is bugged without him knowing and when he returns to Katniss in Mockingjay, when they are making rebellion plans, the capital hears all of it. |
| by Airiana in June 29 - 8:52 pm |
Possibly. It would be a pretty cool twist. Susanne Collins said herself he can manipulating everybody. So why not Katniss? Oh! Oh! Oh! What if, while he’s captured, they start twisting Peeta’s love into hate? Like “After all you did for her, she deserted you as soon as she could and spent her choice days with Gale,” and “After we said there could only be one victer, what was her initial reaction? To kill you!” I don’t know about you guys, but I wouldn’t be Katniss Everdeen’s biggest friend at that point if I was Peeta. Lay off Blooming Katniss because A) She said she was sorry. B) It hasn’t totally defiled you or done something irreparably bad. Chill, people. |
| by TennisFreak in July 10 - 10:45 pm |
2 words…YA RIGHT!!!! I am not on any “teams” ot watevr but i sincerely believe that katniss will go to peeta bkuz when you think about it peeta made katniss feel fuzzy inside if you know what i mean… The only reason katniss and gale are in “love” is bkuz they or practically brother and sister or “cousins” as they put it in CF. I wouldn’t be surprised if katniss and peeta ended up together its just common sense to me. |
| by Warduel D. Saysage in July 16 - 11:33 am |
…Is that for real? Where did this theory come from? I gotta see the evidence behind this…or the sanity, which ever. I mean, I REALLY don`t like Peeta. But I don`t think he`s a bad guy, he obviously loves Katniss too much do even atmept something like this, let alone have the backround or the capability to be working for the Capitol. Nah… |
| by Hannah in July 21 - 10:53 pm |
deff not. I love Peeta. but he is seriously not a good enuff liar to pull off lying about the whole thing. It also doesn’t make sense. He’s loved her since the reaping (and before that, if hes telling the truth and I think he is), when the Capitol couldn’t have possibly had influence over him yet. If it’s true and he really is bad, of course I’ll still love him! |
| by Natasha in July 23 - 2:35 pm |
I’m not going to lie, I DID think about the possibility towards the beginning of Catching Fire, but as I read along, I really don’t think Peeta would be capable of betraying Katniss (and not because I completely and utterly ADORE Peeta I mean, sure, he’s a reeeaaally good liar, but he’s been truely sincere with Katniss and Haymitch about everthing. And he took personal jabs at the Capitol as well. He painted the picture of Rue during the Private Sessions before the Quarter Quell. And he also claimed that Katniss was pregnant during the interview, which set off an explosion of angry Capitol people. He’s always been trying to save Katniss one way or the other. And if Haymitch (since he seems really careful about who he trusts) completely trusts Peeta, then I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be joining forces with President Snow. I just think it was bad luck that he was taken. That, or what Katniss was told is true: he’s being used to lure her to go and save him. Or he could simply be brainwashed somehow once being captive But I seriously don’t think Collins would have the heart to make him turn out that way. I mean, so many fans of the book really like Peeta, whether it be for romantic reasons or just because they think he’s nice. If she turns him out to be bad, a lot of us will be angry. I mean… I’d be angry lol. But anyways, my answer is No. But it’s something to keep in mind in case Peeta does start acting a little weird in Mockingjay. |
| by Mrs. Peeta Mellark in August 16 - 7:57 pm |
Oh my gosh! What kind of question is that? Why would you even think like that about Peeta? I mean, if your thinking that way about him, then your on team gale. And you know what I say about team gale? I say THEY’RE NO LIFERS WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT LOVE IS! And that’s exactly how I would put it too. Anyway, Peeta wouldn’t do something like that to Katniss. I mean, the first day Peeta saw her he fell in love with her. Does anybody not remember his bread that gave her hope. And the 74th Hunger Games, surviving together? How about in the 75th Hunger Games how everybody sacrificed their own lives for Peeta for Katniss’s rebellion? Do you think that Peeta would have lied about his undenying love for Katniss? All those moments when Katniss need somebody, he was ALWAYS there. In the first book, in the end, he was SOOOOO upset about Katniss “act of love” when the whole time for him it was real. Peeta’s real, and would never work for the Capitol. He loves Katniss. LETS GO TEAM PEETA!!! |
| by Mrs. Peeta Mellark in August 16 - 8:06 pm |
Oh, and also. Maybe the Capitol did something to Peeta’s brain to make him go against the rebels and side with them when they captured him at the end of CF. But I seriously doubt it. At least, I really hope that doesn’t happen. |
| by madd in August 18 - 10:26 am |
thats a great question and the more i think about it the more it could be true, but how could he pull this thing off? I’m sure Peeta does love Katniss, before the games. He had told this to Haymitch, who then decided that the best chance of staying alive is to love Katniss again. So he did, isnt he an amazing actor! Katniss is kind of falling for him then, therefore keeping up the image of the “star-crossed lovers” If Peeta was working with the capitol, they would still be no way to stop the nightlock incident. That was entirly Katniss and if he didnt eat them that would show that he doesnt love her. When he got home to his new house, he had to keep up the act a little longer, but soon he had to volenteer for haymitch to keep up the love and he needed to make sure Finnick and them’s plan doesnt work out. Peeta failed at making all that stop, the capitol got their spy, i guess you could call him. They destroyed district 12 because Peeta had learned about all the allegal things there. Of course Peeta’s family is okay, unless he wanted them to stay there. Thats Peeta’s dark side. Not saying thats whats true, but im saying here, this could make sense. Flip a coin. Heads lover, Tails killer. |

i just realized how many mistakes are in that and how it probably dosnt really make sense to anyone….. |
