Music Monday: If I Die Young by The Band Perry

Lord make me a rainbow i’ll shine down on my mother
shes knows i’m safe with you and she stands under my colors
oh and life aint always what you think it ought to be
no it aint even grey but she burries her baby
the sharp knife of a short life
well i’ve had just enough time
….
There’s a boy here in town
who says he’ll love me forever
who would have thought forever could be severed
by a sharp knife of a short life

Thanks to Liz G. for the suggestion!

Its funny. Part of the song reminds me of Rue. Another Part reminds me of Katniss. And Another part reminds me of Clove.

It’s okay for the hunger games, but otherwise it’s a pretty depressing song.

I love this, a very nice song and yes, depressing. I tend to move pass the depressing lyrics of a song to get to the message in the instrumental; here I find a peaceful sound, like the blue of the mockingjay cover.

I could see this playing after Katniss has covered Rue with the last petal and and the horn has sounded to reveal the death. Very depressed Katniss, walking and hiding as the song plays, and then it fades as we move on to the next seen.

That part about the “boy in town” was very much like Peeta, but, yeah, I mostly thought about Rue and how Katniss covered her in flowers after she died. D:
This IS a depressing song.

I love this song! Oh, it’s so apt for all those poor teens who never had the chance to do so many of the things that they should have been able to do…

next music monday NEEDS TO BE Let the Flames Begin by Paramore. its so much like hunger games & catching fire, even the title!!! Similarity??? Let the FLAMES begin? one, its like the hunger games (let the GAMES begin). two, its like girl on fire (FLAMES), and catching fire. The song reminds me of the rebels’ point of view. LOOK AT THE LYRICS

inkblood- i was thinking of wut u said and at first it was a super good idea but then i remembered… wouldnt katniss b singing the lullaby? well i guess they could play this song after the lullaby cuz tecnically katniss sang this song while she was dying then she died then katniss covered her in pedals… but maybe it wouldnt b a very good idea to play song after song right after each other in that scene, but who am i? ha great idea inkblood:D

McKinzi-
Yeah, so I imagined that she would sing the song, finish the “burial” and the cannon would fire. As Kat is walking way, the song lightly begins to play until the next scene.

The love interest in the video is my friend Kyle Kupecky! He’s a really talented musician as well. Check out the band Yellow Cavalier.

This song doesn’t as much remind me of Rue but more of Katniss; I think that this could be about her wondering what would happen if she dies, like what would Peeta do or her mother and Prim.

Definitely a Rue song, but I can see it as Katniss is going to the capitol after replacing Prim and realizing she probably ain’t gonna make it back.
