Suzanne Collins will be making an appearance at The Scholastic Store in SoHo on Thursday 8/26 at 11am to celebrate the release of Mockingjay, the third and final book in The Hunger Games trilogy! Named one of TIME Magazine’s Top 100 People of the Year, Ms. Collins will read from her new book and meet fans!

For the Fall 2010 Mockingjay tour, Suzanne Collins has commissioned a special custom made stamp that she will be using for all appearances. Due to existing hand strain, she will not be signing or personalizing. Ms. Collins will also only be able to stamp one book per guest.

We know how many Hunger Games fans are in the New York area so we’re sure this event will be busy! The event will end promptly at 12pm, so here are some tips to make sure we can accommodate as many Hunger Games fans as possible!
- Pre-order your copy in person at The Scholastic Store in SoHo anytime before the event! (Less lines = less wait!)
- You are welcome to take photographs but Ms. Collins will not be able to individually pose with fans. If you’d like a photo of when your book is being stamped, bring your camera and we’ll have store staff on hand to take a quick picture!

Really? A stamp? One hour event? Won’t pose with fans for pictures?? This is the exact opposite of a book signing event!! For a second I considered buying a ticket to NYC until I read the details. In just an hour she couldn’t even cover Q and A’s. Guess all of us die hard book lovers should just be grateful she is willing to be in the same room to stamp the books. NO THANKS!

That would be cool, but I kinda agree with Laura to an extent. I understand her not being able to sign it…but a picture would be nice–or at least a Q&A. Maggie Stiefvater (Shiver, Linger, Lament, Ballad) usually has Q&A’s an gets to talk to fans a bit…I wish more authors did that.

At least she is letting you take pictures of her. I vowed never to go to a book signing because of what happened with Meyer. She was rude and wasn’t friendly in the least bit unless she was standing in front of the podium.

    Really Kaleigh? That’s horrible!

Everyone getting mad about the stamp thing should know she has a hand injury and so can’t sign.

I totally agree with Leah. SC can’t sign books personally because she has hand strain. Probably due to all the writing/typing she’s been doing (what with Mockingjay and the HG screenplay). Be happy you even get a third book and get to see SC in the first place (that is if you’re going). I’d much rather get a copy of Mockingjay and see my fav author up close then getting her to personally sign it. (Especially if it puts her in pain. Do you know how many HG fans are going to be there? ALOT. She can’t type/write if her hand’s broken from all the signing) Quit whining.

OOO! Thanks for clearing that up! OK!

@Abe – your argument is weak. We all read she has a hand strain, is that keeping her from doing a Q &A session? No. Would a strained hand prevent her from taking pictures, hmmm NO. Would her hand force her to hold only a one hour event for a book that thousands if not millions of fans have been dying to read? No. Suzanne Collins made no appearances for Catching Fire, and only 1 for Hunger Games. She is cashing in big time with these books, but isn’t interested in actually meeting her fans, this has been public knowledge for years. oh, and if you think she actually types her own work without an assistant you are even more naive then I originally thought. “Be happy she wrote the third book” ?? Are you for real??? This is her profession. She isn’t doing us favors! This is what she does, she writes – we read.
*If you are 14 or under I apologize, if not then you have no excuse.

She actually attended one book signing after Catching Fire, and it was with a bunch of other authors at a little book store called Books of Wonder, and of all 5 authors there she got about 95 percent of the questions. And then she was about to explain a bit of the books to people, and instead asked “well who hasn’t read my books?” No one raised a hand, and when everyone audience realized it we clapped, while she looked as if she couldn’t believe it. Now this is only my opinion, but I think she seriously underestimates how popular the books are. And that signing was in the middle of a school week at night. I can already imagine how packed it will be in a school free afternoon in the middle august… Smh.

I agree with Laurarod… Besides the stamp isn’t new. She used a different stamp for each book from her Gregor series and then a different one for each of the HG books. And while I am completely grateful to have gotten that stamp and the quote she hand wrote, it wasn’t what I was used to from a book signing… I think that unless I have the day off, I won’t be taking the time off like I did last time…
