Kaya Scoldelario, widely known for her role as Effy in the British show Skins, is one of the favorites for the role of Katniss Everdeen in the ‘Hunger Games’ movie. Some think she’s perfect, but others think she’s wrong for the part. What do you think, and why?

I find her to be the best for the role physically, I’ve never seen her act but from all the pictures I’ve seen she is the perfect Katniss.

Yes. This is a Katniss I would be happy about, though I think she needs more muscle. It takes a lot of strength to string a bow.

I actually really LOVE Kaya Scoldelario as Katniss.
My reasons?
Well as mentioned above, she LOOKS just like how I pictured Katniss, minus the long black hair and grey eyes, but those can be fixed in hair and makeup. Katniss needs to be played by a new face, but also by someone who is a little bit strong. Kaya has got a somewhat athletic look, but not in an overpowering way, she can easily be more elegant and lithe as Katniss is supposed to be.
And ofcourse shes an amazing actress, she could very well pull of being Katniss and im sure while some people might disagree with her being Katniss, if she were cast, she will end up satisfying everyone =)

Awesome! I think she looks the part really well. I have never seen Skins, but she has a slightly defiant, defensive look about her that I picture in Katniss.

I think Katniss should be played by someone that’s less…pretty. She should look like someone who’s young, but really mature.

I don’t know how she acts, but she looks the part.
Oviously it will be impossible to find one actress that satisfies everyone’s personal image of Katniss.
I’m still hoping that they cast a complete NOBODY for the part . (but they have to have some talent of course!)

She is the best suggestion I’ve seen so far. Very defensive and fierce looking, just like Katniss! And even though the characters’ descriptions mean a lot to me, I don’t think we should throw out an actress like Kaya just because she doesn’t have deep olive skin or black hair.

I don’t think she’s the right fit. A common mistake in film adaptions of books is getting the ages wrong. In some, such as The Twilight Saga, its due to poor casting; in others (The Lightning Thief jumps to mind here) its a conscious decision made with the hope of appealing to a different audience. Either way, I’ve never seen a good film adaption that changed the character’s ages, and casting is one of the primary differences between “Harry Potter”s and “Eragon”s.

i think that she looks the part. i’m not sure about her acting though. having never seen her in anything, i can’t say that she would be perfect, considering i’ve never seen her act, but she definitely looks like i thought of her.

I think Kaya would do a great job at Katniss. I have seen all the skins episodes and for those that think she is too pretty and nice looking, i highly suggest that you watch any of season 3 skins. Kaya plays a very fierce, strong character and does an amazing job at it. Im sure that with a tan and contacts kaya would be perfect.

I think she’d be the closest to what most of us (In my opinion) think as Katniss. I am pretty much dissapointed with every single actress suggest for her. Im sure once I see who they choose, I’ll be okay with her, but as of now, I cant picture anyone as Katniss. Haha. But she’d probably be the closest IMO.

yeaa…Katniss has olive skin and athletic…They should pick someone who’s good and looks exactly the same as the way Suzanne Collins describe Katniss…Plus Katniss is not the girly type nor looks girly…shes tough and kick-ass like

she is a great actress, and could pull off the part flawlessly with a little makeup and hair help. Sure she’s a little too pale but a bronzer can fix that and she can always get a tan. I think everyone’s fretting over all the little details when I think what really matters is if she’s a good actress, fits the basic role of the character and can have her appearance slightly adjusted (again, makeup and hair, nothing drastic).

She has really good facial features. She has a good shaped nose. All that she really needs to do is wear brown contacts and I think she needs a little longer hair. I always pictured Katniss with hair down to about the bottom of her breasts. I did. Though, I do think that they need a “fresh faced actress” and Kaya is fairly new. But I do think they need the new actress to have almost exactly the same features as Katniss. Like, actually having brown eyes. But, I’d love Kaya to play Katniss!!!

Why do people not picture her pretty? wile reading the books they talk about how pretty she is and she just doesn’t realize it. Just because she has to hunt and be rough doesn’t mean she is ugly or plain. The way peeta describes her you know she must be very pretty.

i personally dont like her at all, she really doesnt look anything like how Katniss is described to be or what I imagined her to look like. And also, if shes in Skins then doesnt she have a british accent? ( i havent seen it but that just what im guessing) BUT, MOST IMPORTANTLY, MY SUGGESTION For KATNISS THAT HASNT BEEN MENTIONED YET, WHICH I THINK IS PERFECT! is MILA KUNIS. but yeah, why DO people think shes not supposed to be pretty? I always thought that Katniss doesn’t see herself as beautiful simply because shes thought of herself as tough and all of that….I dont think Kayas too pretty to play Katniss at all!

i agree with Maddy. i hope that they will pick a complete nobody. but let’s hope that whoever she is, she will fit Katniss perfectly. let’s just hope that we wont get disappointed with whoever they’ll pick as katnisss

She’s one of my favorites for Katniss, but like Daydreamer said, I hope they pick some unknowns for like Katniss, Peeta, and Gale, then do someone like Johnny Depp for Haymitch.

I love her in Skins, absolutely love her. And I wouldn’t totally hate it if she played Katniss. I think she would do a very good job, and she actually sorta looks like my version of Katniss.
I still wish theyd pick unknown actors/nobodies, but if not, I wouldn’t mind actors that aren’t well known in the US.
So I say good choice. She’s a million times better than the other actresses suggested (jodelle? NO WAY!). AND she can act. I mean she played Effy!

I agree with Blaze. They should cast new people as the mains but use, like, Meryl Streep as Effie and Johnny Depp as Haymitch, so it’s got a star-studded cast, just giving young actors room to start a career.

It’d be okay if she was Katniss, but I’m not really that sure if she’s the PERFECT Katniss. Of course, her hair and eyes can be fixed with makeup and wigs and contacts, but one thing that makeup can’t alter is how strong she looks. I just don’t really think that she looks strong, fierce or angry enough to be Katniss. I’d be okay with it if she was cast as Katniss, but I truly think that there are better people out there for the role.

Wow, I think she’s a good choice. I mean, looking at her in some of the fan trailers on youtube shows that she can be strong and mean. She doesn’t need a tan, Katniss is pale. She’s not perfect, but she’s a good choice if the PERFECT Katniss isn’t found. Jermey Sumpter for Peeta <3

She doesn’t need contacts…i’m pretty sure her eyes are grey, it’s just this picture that makes them look dark. I think she looks the part perfectly minus the olive skin

Im sorry but in Catching Fire when Peeta dies and gets revived by Finnick KATNISS was screaming and crying her eyes out, and im sorry but i dont think that Kaya can pull that off. But i Happen to agree with ALEX that MILA KUNIS IS THE ONE!!! yea she is 26 but if you saw Book Of Eli she proved that see can play some one young and petite around the ages of 16-19. Soo, it doesnt matter that she is not a newer face that means she is a better actress AND she has more EXPERIENCE in ACTING MILA KUNIS just fits in!!!!

yea, i could see her as Katniss, but they disadvantage is, she’s British, so the accent might slow production down a bit. I still LOVE Lucy Hale (from Pretty Little Liars) a Katniss. She looks like her, can pull off the protective element, the tomboy element (because her character, Aria, hates to get dressed up) and she plays strong characters.

I think she is one of the better actors for Katniss that I’ve seen so far. Katniss is such a hard character to cast, though, so none of the actresses that I’ve seen have really stood out to me. I can’t even really picture who I want her to look like in my head so…. I don’t know. I just really hope whoever they pick turns out good in the end….

This is the description that was provided for Katniss:”Katniss is sixteen years old and is described as having long, black hair usually in a braid, gray eyes, and olive skin, though some of her hair was singed off during the games.”
Kaya is not Olive Skin Toned…..need an example her skins costar (Luke Pasquilino) is! Sorry to be picky, but why go to such lengths to tan a girl, when she already is.
Another I imagined Katniss with a hard edge and a more aged look…..don’t forget this girl had to jump from 13 to 30 real quick to survive when she was young. HER FACE WILL SHOW IT!

To Someone, I understand and respect your opinion….yet I would like to add that in some of the past and best book to movie straight adaptations…..they barely ever “changed” the actor to fit the character’s description. They would naturally fit.
EXAMPLES: Harry potter, Lord of the Rings, The Godfather, Princess Bride, Chronicles of Narnia
Why can’t they do the same with Katniss?

i think that kayla is a pretty good choice. i mean she looks similar to the discritiption, with some differences of course, and shes not that bad of an actress either. i’ve been watching skins for a while now and she can definately hold her own in serious scenes.

I think she could pull off Katniss. She looks more…. pretty than I imagined, but she could pull it off. I really just hope they don’t cast someone who lacks any muscle and is blonde and blue eyed. I just want the actress to be somewhat like Katniss physically, by this I mean I don’t care if she isn’t muscular or is too “pretty”. I guess some people imagine Katniss as beautiful. I do care about the eyes though. I was mad because Harry eyes weren’t green in the HP movies. I also need an actress that can be serious without cornyness, but I haven’t ever seen Skins…. so idk if shes good

Well, excuse ,e, but I love her as Katniss. Those of you that constantly complain about any or all of our candidates not having olvie skin, gray eyes, or black hair those are so easily changed. And those who say she’s too pretty, I figure Katniss must be beautiful. I mean, honestly, she has the boys all about her. She is just beautiful in more mature away.
Also, that picture is from four or three years ago. So, she looks older now. Age difference is

… It’s a book to movie adaption. Things can change. Including a girl’s skin tone.
I’m not saying that aren’t girls who already fit the description, but right now, Kaya Scodelario is my object of choice as Katniss. And hello, we’re not changing the character, it’d be changing the actress. It would still be Katniss either way.
And I hardly think the actors are to blame for either of those movies.

And about the movies listed, audience and critics were either confused or upset by the casting….it was not the entire cause as to why it did not sell well, but some sources believe it was the trigger.
I respect your opinion….but I would just like to see some casting choices that don’t need a major change such as spray tan.
And no nothing is ever perfect…..but casting is all about choices.

Her skin definitely isn’t dark enough, and she’s a bit too old (she’ll be 19 soon, and she could pass for much older. That’s an old picture of her). She’s petite but she isn’t skinny. She’s definitely too pretty.

I personally think she’d be perfect if she managed to lose her accent. Her eyes can be fixed with contacts, her hair can be dyed, and she’s part Brazilian so maybe she’ll tan? lol I remember in one season of America’s Next Top Model they put all this makeup on the skins of the girls so they looked different races. They had one really pale girl be like, Native American or something like that and it was quite convincing, so it is possible. She has that fierce edge to her that Katniss needs. It’s going to be hard to find someone with all the perfect attributes, and personally, I’d prefer someone who can play the part and make it believable over someone who looks EXACTLY like how I picture Katniss but not able to act.

I love this suggestion. Not only does Scodelario physically fit the part, she also is an excellent actress, from what I’ve seen. There’s something about her that exudes a harshness or toughness that is perfect for Katniss, also.
