New York, NY (September 2, 2010) — Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education, and media company, announced today that Mockingjay, the final book in The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, sold more than 450,000 copies (hardcover and eBook) in its first week on sale in the U.S., debuting at #1 on both the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists. In addition, Scholastic announced that it has gone back to press for an additional 400,000 copies, bringing the total number of copies in print for Mockingjay in the U.S. to 1.6 million since its publication on August 24, 2010.

“After months of anticipation, sales for Mockingjay have exceeded all expectations, as has the outpouring from countless teen and adult fans of the trilogy who have been blogging, tweeting, and coming out to meet Suzanne Collins on the first leg of her North American tour,” said Ellie Berger, President of the Scholastic Trade Publishing division.

Awesome! But yes, I am not surprised. I am anxious for any interviews with Suzanne Collins about the writing of this book. I am so curious as to why she took it the direction she did.

She deteriated these characters so much in this book I’m heartbroken. She tore down each one of them and took away all of our reasons for falling in love with them or at least being fond of them (Haymitch Finnik) I was so disappointed with the direction she went I felt like it was all destruction and I get that it was war, but they’ve already lived under communisim and then endured the hunger games so I don’t think this would have changed their characters so drastically. It was like katniss was dead and Peeta never resurrected. Still a pag turner, I’m still a devoted fan, but totally bugged that the only character that stayed true was dang Snow.

  34.

Somehow I kenw this would happen!! This is TOTALLY well deserved! I ADORE mockingjay, only it’s a little sad and dark until the end. But It’s still awesome and one of my fave books EVER!!! yeah!!

I loved this book so much! Like so much! i just wish she would have explained more at the end, like i wouldve liked to witness her and peeta growing back together. at least to the point where she telles him Real! that she loves him. i think the end she kind of bailed out of. and finnick! oh my ! i wanted him to survive sooo bad!! and Haymitch (secretly i was hoping he and katniss’s mother would fall in love and he could be her father type figure.) but what can you do.

    Shannon

It was really good, i couldnt put it down but the direction she took in the end suprised me so much. And im kinda disappointed at how quickly it ended, it feels unfinished to me. and it made me cry because of the ppl that died): and what happened to Gale!?!?! Do him and katniss remain friends!?!?! it was left way to unfinished to me
