‘Hunger Games’ Movie Director Down to Three Possiblilities

The next big film directing job in Hollywood will be decided late next week,. That’s when Lionsgate chooses a filmmaker for The Hunger Games, the first installment of a trilogy based on the Suzanne Collins novel series that many feel could be the next Twilight. I’m told that Lionsgate has gotten Billy Ray’s rewrite, and will meet with three elite directors next week before making a decision. Gary Ross, Sam Mendes and David Slade have emerged as the favorites. The script has become one of those closely guarded documents which do not leave the production company’s headquarters. I’ve also heard Andrew Adamson’s name in the mix, but it appears to be down to the three I mentioned.

Whoever makes the movie as close to the book as possible. considering that its Hollywood it should be possible to make it pretty darn close.

Sam Mendes. He’s directed a lot of good films [Revolutionary Road, American Beauty, Away we Go]. But personally, I’m good with all three.

Gary Ross or Sam Mendes, don’t mind either but Sam seems like the best choice because of how well Revolutionary Road was etc. Just please, not David Slade. For the simple fact that HG is already being compared to Twilight. But on saying that, Eclipse was far better than its predessors due to the different director and he works well with gore. So who knows? I can’t wait!

I’m happy with these choices. I’d only shy away from Slade, because he did Eclipse. But, he would’ve done a really good job with THG. Ross is also a great director. My vote is definitely for SAM MENDES! He’d be perfect.

Wow I think all three of these men would be an awesome choice. As for those of you who don’t want Slade simply because he did Twilight, get over it! Whether you like it or not, THG will continue to be compared in some form or another to the Twilight saga just as Twilight was compared to the Harry Potter series. Just the way it is. We want the best man for the job, and if it turns out that the powers that be think it is Slade, then great, more power to him!
Im sick of people condeming movies or series that have yet to be made simply because of “crossover” talent. Remember all the raging hissy fits when Robert Pattinson, who is a Harry Potter alum, was cast as Edward?? Be hard to imagine Twilight without him now, wouldn’t it?! So whoever is chosen as director, give the guy a CHANCE to acutally turn THG into a finished product before starting a protest!

David Slade would do a good job, I feel, but he will always be linked to Twilight. I mean, the Hunger Games would probably be introduced as “the film from the director of the Twilight Saga Eclipse.” Sam’s my second choice, though…he sounds good.

yea i have to agree with lily. took the words right out of my mouth. and yea, i cant imagine edward be anyone but pattinson. i couldnt really think of anyone to play him before the movie, and rob was perfect…i agreed that no one from twilight should be in THG, but that seems kinda stupid now. cuz kellan lutz would probably make a good finnick. all i’m saying is that lily’s right, ya gotta give ppl chances, and not starting a protest before u even see the finished production.

Ok, i don’t think it’s fair that everyone is bashing david slade cuz of twilight. yes, twilight is not the best in entertainment, but he is an amazing director. He has good attention to detail and i think he would be good for the hunger games.

i mean i had huge doubts being a twilight fan when i heard he was directing it, but he did an amazing job, and i think he would do such a good job with all the action in HG… i’m just worried about him catching the romance moments bc there wasn’t a lot in eclipse, except in the proposal.
and my fave thing about HG is the romance and the love triangle so i hope if he gets picked, he does a better job

Wouldn’t twilight clash with Hunger Games (which isn’t good because we all know HG is better and clashing isn’t good) if David Slade is the director. And Slade will probably remodel HG into something like twilight… :C hmmm

David Slade would be perfectly fine as the director of the Hunger Games. He did an amazing job with Eclipse [directing wise] and I really don’t give a damn if he’s connected to the twilight saga.

Right now I don’t really care which of these 3 directs THG. (Well I kinda like Sam mendes) but as long as they do a good job with the movie and I mean a really good job! than I’m okay. We shouldn’t be caring if they’re comparing THG to twilight. We really shouldn’t! People need to look at this from a directing point of view. Not who they;re associated with.
Personally, I don’t think any of them are right for the job. We needed someone clever to direct this.

I don’t care, as long as it’s not the Twilight director. Eclipse was crap so obviously he’s not a good director. He’d make it to be like Twilight, he’d focus more on the love triangle than what the story is actually about – WAR. If the Eclipse director is chosen, I will have the biggest fit I have even had in my life. I don’t want anyone associated with Twilight to have anything to do with The Hunger Games. I would like to see Sam Mendes as the director because most of the movies he is known for I have liked a lot. I don’t hate David Spade, but I would much rather that no one from Twilight is involved because I feel like Hunger Games needs to have no attachments. you know, you cant hold a director responsible for something hes done in the past..just because twilight is huge, and some people hate the movies, it doesnt mean that Hes a bad director….what people fail to see is the work hes put BEHIND the movie…look at the film footage, the shots, the angle, the cinematography…it pisses me off when someone says a movie is bad if its not close to the book…BLAME THAT ON THE SCRIPT WRITER. SHE/HES the one who writes the STORY.
As for Slade, hes brilliant I love his work. When he gets into something he truly has a passion for, there is no stopping him. He brings to life the best in the actors and Ive seen his works…fantastic. So I vote Slade..but even if they pick Mendes, I wont really mind.

Im not sure what the other two directors are like but i think David Slade would do an amazing job. He is a very dark director and i think thats exactly what we need for the hunger games, someone who can capture the pain and still make it thrilling. Just because he directed eclipse doesn’t mean it will turn out anything like the twilight movies. At least with big name directors like that in the running Lionsgate clearly know how big this movie will be.

Probably not, because you all think ‘Eclipse’. From a directing point of view, he did a very good job. Like others have said, it was down to the script and actors that make it such a bad movie.
And it WILL be associated with Twilight, so get over it.

NOT David Slade. A music videos director against an Academy Award winner like Sam Mendes and Gary Ross? Really? I vote Sam Mendes. His credentials are great and he doesn’t screw up books, Gary Ross might’ve been good if they still needed a screenwriter, but Suzanne Collins has that pretty much figured out on her own. So Done!

to be honest the only director i feel could make the movie its best is David Slade. Even though I despised the Twilight movies I think that David Slade did a great job with Eclipse for what he was given. And to be even more honest, I think the director should be chosen for the quality of his work rather than what they directed.

Now, wait a second, you guys. I think there is a bit of mistaking on both side of this Slade and Twilight argument. Not all of us who would pass on Slade because of Twilight are simply Twilight-haters. I actually like the series. But, I just don’t want THG to have to live in Twilight’s shadow b/c of a Twilight connection. And, someone was saying that it becoming the next Twilight is a good thing. Not necessarily.
Twilight’s popularity and Harry Potter’s popularity are two different things. HP is really popular when marketing time comes around, which keeps people interested without having it shoved down their throats all the time. Twilight is terribly overexposed to the point that people hate it because of that. I’d want THG to be like HP instead of Twilight. That would be terrible if people hated on THG because it was EV.ER.Y.WHERE. all the time. It’s too good of a series for that.
Now, people bashing Slade because, saying he can’t handle it because he did Eclipse, I think you’re wrong as well. Slade’s movies are usually much darker than the Twilight moves. He did “30 Days of Night” and “Hard Candy.” The dark and the gruesome is right up his alley, more so than Eclipse was. They need a mind like that for THG. And, Eclipse, imo, was the best movie of the bunch.
Honestly, if these are the guys that they are narrowing it down to, then the movie is in good hands. Either one of them could do a great job with it!

SAM MENDES PLEASE, American Beauty and Revolutionary Road were AMAZING and well thought-out. The Hunger Games series actually has some really good thought provoking themes in it. The director should be able to work with that and Sam Mendes is amazing.

Don’t know much about david slade or the other guy. I didn’t see eclipse, but eh I will eventually.
And it kind of makes me sad that twiligh and THG keep getting compared cause they both have a love triangle. THG is so much more than that. The forefront of it’s plot and its themes is the revolution. I used to like twilight, but all the fangirl ridiculousness made it so gaddamn silly I started getting so embarrassed. I really don’t want THG’s amazingness to be ruined by fangirls

@leanne i actually have never seen adam gregory act before, i’m just judging a lot of them by their looks, except for a couple of them where i’ve actually seen them act. and i agree with u, kristen stewart is the WORST actress i’ve ever seen. sean faris, eh, i dont really like him for gale. idk, its just the way his face is built. idk, thats just me, i like adam gregory better…

People need to stop talking about t******** it just isn’t cool. No matter what HG will be with the t word somehow because it has the same audience (mostly) . And its a love triangle. No matter how different these two books are they will be compared I get that people are afraid that this will turn out like twilight I am too but we can’t do anything about it because deep down in our hg obsessed hearts we know it will or at least related too it somehow. I AGREE that there should be no Twilight crossovers what so ever except for DAVID SLADE!! Come on!! Ross or Mendes are drama!!!
