Having been so immersed in this [Twilight] world, do you have a good sense of what makes a series this sticky? Can you predict the Next Big Thing for this audience?
“Hunger Games” is probably going to be huge. I was actually very interested in directing the film of that. I met with Lionsgate to talk about it, but it didn’t work out.
I’m a big, big fan, a big supporter of fan subcultures. I think they make things bigger than they are and they allow younger people — sometimes older people– to interact in positive ways …they’re good things in society, while there are a lot of bad things in society. And the things that drive great successes are things that people just identify with.
Since there’s obviously a precedent for switching directors with every movie in a franchise, we’d like to officially throw our support your way for the “Hunger Games” sequel.
Aw, well. Let’s see how things go. Who knows. I was in talks early on with “Hunger Games” but it didn’t go and I moved on to the next thing. I don’t tend to attach myself to a lot of things — I generally kind of pursue something to the point at which it becomes a reality, then I start talking about it. I’m very close — but there are four things and they’re all very, very different.

I think it’s going to be coming out in 2012. Filming starts in the spring (tentatively) of 2011. And of course, it’s going to be fantastically epic!

Obviously, It will become very popular. That is a good AND bad thing.
Good, because it will make a lot of money which means better crew work, better movies etc. but bad because then people will be SO obsessed it will become annoying as it did with twilight, although I can see more male audience liking it aswell.

But if people are screaming omg peeta etc etc. it means that its popular, which means there will be another movie, which means we are alll happy xD
Kinda glad he isn’t up to direct the first movie, to many times the hunger games is compared to twilight,

I love this trilogy, but for some reason I don’t want it to be huge. Don’t hate me for saying that, i just don’t know why!

I agree that one of my fears for the Hunger Games is that it will turn into another Twilight. But I just hope that they cast actors that can actually act and not just a bunch of pretty faces like Twilight.

What I’m worried about for when the movie comes out and the hunger games becomes HUGE (we all know it will) Is people seeing the movie and are al of a sudden fans of it. You know, people who don’t bother to read the books?
