>>> NO!!! Gale and Finnick are supposed to be hot. Katniss made a point of mentioning which characters were the good looking ones, and not once did she say that Peeta was hot. Sure, whoever plays him needs to be attractive to some degree, but that shouldn’t be the most important thing.

I know Hollywood doesn’t always work this way, but LOOKS AREN’T EVERYTHING. I honestly believe JLaw is the best Katniss they can get in terms of maturity and acting. I’m not gonna lie… at first I thought they’d put more weight on appearances, but they pleasantly surprised me by getting who looks little like the role (naturally) yet is absolutely perfect in terms of mannerisms and acting.

Don’t underestimate the power of movie magic! They can always make her look younger and keep her that way. Anyway, Gary Ross said he and Suzanne Collins (THE AUTHOR) envisioned a young WOMAN, not a girl, for Katniss. I get that we all have our ideas, but shouldn’t the author have the most say in this? {Although, personally, I always wanted an older Katniss. I was praying from the beginning that no one under the age of 18 would touch this role.}

1. any scene with both Haymitch and Peeta and Katniss since they have such amnazing chemistry asnd engery together
2. Probably Finnick even though he is in the 2nd book but, he is sooo interesting sincere and fun. i also like Haymitch, Peeta and Rue, but how can u not like those guys!
3. im not big on movies but two characters that have reminded me of Katniss are Maddie from True Grit and also Mulan from Mulan!

Yes! She definately has the potential to exceed everyone’s expectations of Katniss if we give her the chance. She was STUNNING in Winter’s Bone, and from what it sounds like she amazed Gary and Suzanne as well. Give her a frumpy hunting outfit and some hairdye and BAM we have Katniss. Just for those of you who refuse to accept her as Katniss: It’s not going to change, and it’d be better to enjoy the movie then let the casting choices get to you.

I’m going to be completely honest when I say I am sort of bored of the hunger games. I mean I LOVE the books. I think I overdid it by checking the news every single day since the begining of the summer holidays. Not to mention constantly lookiing it up everytime I went on the computer since the first book was released. SO when this news came out I wasn’t estatic or happy or angry. More so meh. Maybe because of the constant rumors it was less of a surprise. On a different and more on topic note I’m glad she’s commited to a character I love and personify with myself. Now I’m worried who their going to choose for the rest of the cast. It’s alright if she’s brilliant but alot depends on the other characters like haymitch, peeta, snow and cinna. I”m disppointed those anwsers were short and quick and not very in depth.

I did watch winter’s bone and the chubby cheeks and sweater did’nt help us envision her as Katniss. Just a blond Barbie who can act tough…

Jen seems sweet and all but she looks to prepped up and city-ish. She could be good for Glimmer but she needs to have that feel that when you look at her, you’ll know she’s a fighter. And plus, I thought Katniss had black hair…?

Katniss isn’t really the sweet kind of person, she’s sullen and hostile [as Haymitch would say]. Jen looks too nice and sweet to be a Katniss. I’m still on Kaya Scodelario’s side for this one.

I know it’s been said, but as an older (well if 27 is old) fan of The Hunger Games I have to comment. No, Jennifer Lawrence does not look very much like Katniss. Yet…
Neither did Charlize Theron when she play Aileen Wuornos in Monster. Renee Zelwegger put on 45 pounds to play Bridget Jones. And John Travolta played someone’s MOTHER in Hairspray for Godsakes.
Be thankful the producers have chosen talent (which cannot be gained, lost, dyed or tanned) instead of looks.
To all you ladies who seem so concerned about it, sit in the backseat, strap on your seat belts because, I fear, it’s going to be a bumpy ride for you…

Although hailee steinfeld was my first choice, I’m very happy with the casting of jennifer. Shes got the acting chops, so I know she will deliver. It is very easy to change someones physical appearance, and I am confident she will be able to look like and play katniss wonderfully. There is no point in people whining about something they cant change. We will just have to trust and wait.
Also, when will there be another podcast?! I can’t wait to hear what the jabbeerjays have to say about this and I wish they could be on a regular podcast schedule because theree is so much hg news out there

Some of you who think that Katniss isn’t suppose to be sweet or kind, look again! Katniss will do anything to protect her sister, she even took her place for competing in the Hunger Games. People were sad to see her leave too!

And what about her and Rue? She wasn’t rude to her or her family, but nearly treated them like family. And Rue’s whole District could respect her.

There are numerous different times where Katniss is a very sweet touching person. Sure she gets annoyed, angry, and hostile, but you have to look at her whole character. She captured the Capital’s heart, so in a way she has to be sweet.

Ever seen Avatar? Zoe never shot a bow before but she had to do a lot of training for it, and she pulled it off. Not only did she pull it off, but she did it with her grip being backwards! Anyone can learn to shoot a bow, it’s part of the actors job to become a part of their character no matter what. Duh.

I agree with most everyone else. At first she was not my Katniss but she is growing on me. Hailie will always be my Katniss though. I also agree with most everyone talking about the team stuff. I like Peeta better. I just don’t like Gale. When I said I’m on team Peeta I meant number 1 I liked him more and number 2 he should be with Katniss. Please don’t turn this into Twilight when you only see the movie because there is a hot guy in it. That’s why they shouldn’t cast Alex Pettyfer as Peeta. So many girls would just go and see the movie because Alex was in it. Don’t get me wrong I like Alex and all but please don’t cast him as Peeta. Are you kidding me? Half of Hollywood was vying for this role, EVERYone read the book. She even had her mom read the book, I highly doubt her mom would be reading it if she hadn’t. Don’t jump to conclusion based one VERY short interview.

“So scripted.”
I’ll bet it’s not scripted, but actors are usually pretty reserved in the type of answers they offer, they’re trained to give this type of answer always. Watch any red carpet interview, you’ll see this is right in line with that. Also, she’s not used to speaking about The Hunger Games yet, it’s so early on in the process. Once she’s been through a dozen interviews, most of which will ask the same questions, she’ll get into the swing of things and get more creative with her answers.

Do you know what acting is about? This is what actors do, they get cast in a role and then pick up any skills they will be needing to perform it. Do you think Will Smith knew how to box when he was cast as Muhammad Ali? Did Tobey Macguire know how to race a horse before he did Seabiscuit?

Actors are cast based on acting skills, and then they are taught any additional skills they will be needing for the role, ESPECIALLY things like how to wield and shoot weapons. Think back to all the movies you’ve watched with archers.. Orlando Bloom as Legolas, Russell Crowe as Robin Hood. You think they knew how to shoot a bow before they made those movies? Doubt it. But they can make you feel like they’ve been shooting arrows all their lives, because they are actors and that’s their job, and with a little Hollywood magic it becomes totally convincing.

Honestly, it’s out of our hands now. She’s starting to grow on me, Lawrence. After Winter’s Bone, I’m actually confident she can bring life (and the Southern accent!) to the Katniss role. (Still hoping they distinguish all the different districts with different accents!)

I cannot express, how happy I am that they chose acting and maturity over looks. I got a little caught up in the ‘Hailee Steinfeld’ thing when they rumours about her getting the part first started flying; but now I realize how truly YOUNG she looks! There is no doubt in my mind that she could have pulled it off had she been cast, but I definitely believe Jennifer was a better choice.

I really hope that this sparks some more progress…I mean, how much longer can they wait before they get started on shooting the movie, with the release date in a year?

I really hope they don’t use coloured contacts, or even spray tans for that matter. They can look SO fake it’s not even funny. I don’t think she should have to lose a lot of weight to play the role-it may make her look the part more, but it isn’t healthy. They can always bind her chest, to make her look skinnier, and more or less like a relatively undeveloped teen.

I am putting all of my faith, in the notion that Lionsgate will make this into something utterly FANTASTIC, I really hope I’m not let down….although that is very unlikely.
