Ahhh losing my confidence again…
I don’t like her accent, it’s not Katniss.

She rocks. I cant wait to see her doing all the interviews promoting Hunger Games. She seems to have a personality like Kristen Bell but like a younger Kristen Bell

I’d really recommend you see “The Burning Plain” – it’s the only one of her films that I loved. But I truely love it.
Plus, she’s from Kentucky, she can do the Southern accent too. After seeing some of her work, I think she’ll be great.

katniss has a southern accent, she;ll have a different accent in the movie..> so no reason you should loose faith in her @Emily.

I Really hope tht she does a good job … i also want to see winters bone… she is honestly a very good actress and i advise u to watch the trailer because u can tell that it wont be a challenge for jennifer to play katniss’s strong character

I really want to watch winters bone, why was her hair like that? The point of a southern accent most likely wont go through because
A. Suzanne Imagened her to have a southern voice
B. Then they would have to find other characters to talk the same way
C. It would take a lot of time to find someone.

I really hope she does a good job as Katniss!

Does anyone really care if she has an accent? I’ve lived in Alabama for my whole life, and it really makes no difference to me if Katniss has as Southern accent. In fact, I think it’s pretty awesome.

1. Suzanne’s the author…she can imagine characters however she wants.

2. They won’t have to “find” people who can talk like that. There are actors out there who take dialect classes to learn how their characters talk.

3. It would take a lot of time to find someone? I’m sorry, but really? I repeat, actors can LEARN their character’s accents. The issue of time is irrelevant.

Guess what, it’s the actors job TO BECOME THE CHARACTER. Meaning altering your voice and all to fit the character. Does no one watch movies nowadays or something? How many British or Australian actors are in movies where they do American accents? So if they can do that, I’m pretty sure Jenn can change the way she speaks too. It’s called dialect training.

I mean, hell, Zoe Saldana had to do a 7-day-a-week training that included dialect training, archery, weight-lifting and horse riding. So if any of you has worries about what Jenn CAN’T DO, guess what, they’ll put her through training like any other actor.

@Katniss: It never mentioned in the book that she had an accent, but it did say that she lived in the Appalacian Mountains…or somewhere near there.

That means Kentucky, Virginia, Maybe even northern parts of North Carolina, which is OH YEAH, the South. It’s clearly implied by Suzanne Collins that her characters have accents.

@Katniss As others have mentioned, doing a particular accent is NOT a big deal and would NOT make it harder to find other actors…in fact a southern accent is pretty basic for actors to know, in my high school you learned how to do one if you took an acting class.

This debate over accents is silly.

@Missapae: Pretty much every debate that HG fans get into is stilly. They have a way of nitpicking every single detail and making huge deals out of things that either can be fixed, or things that don’t matter in the slightest.
You learn to live with it.

Everyone stop complaining about her accent. poeple can train themselves to talk differently. In winters bone she trained herself to talk in a stong southen accent. i’m sure it will be fine!

Im not tooo thrilled for her to be Katniss but i guess i cant realy do much about it, LOL i just think she isnt deadly life threatiningly skinny enough, they may put her on a diet but katniss is easily less weight then a 13 year old lol

I saw a photo shoot with her not too long ago where her hair looked like that…so it was a typical silly fashion photo magazine hair-do…or don’t I’m pretty sure it’s not how she does her hair…or how she leaves the house on a daily basis.
I also don’t detect an accent to her natural voice…not one worth mentioning…I think I caught it in maybe 2 or 3 words. But, yes, any actor/actress worth their dime knows they will probably have to change their accent at least a few times throughout their career. It’s more common then people realize because you can’t tell in the movie! It would be silly to only scour the south when looking for an actress with a southern accent. As far as whether or not Katniss has an accent…if I remember correctly, this came about when people started hearing the audio book where Collins does indeed, give Katniss a southern accent. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was skipped over in the movie, nor would I be surprised if they use them. I certainly don’t think it will be an issue at all either way.

in pictures we’ve seen lately on the site, she has brown hair. but I think it needs to be a few shades darker still!

That would be terrible casting decisions anyway. If BOTH of those guys were cast, I would start thinking that the screenplay was secretly written by the Raimi brothers

Anyway, she’s from Kentucky, and her mom has a light southern accent from red carpet interviews. She did a good accent in Winter’s Bone, though a little heavier than I’d like for Katniss. I wouldn’t mind an accent as long as it’s not too strong.

It’s a British magazine. They seem to dig that sexy-bedhead look in fashion shoots. ‘member Kaya’s hair? Oy, I don’t get it, but that was the look for that particular shoot of Jen’s.

Second of all, her hair was for a fashion shoot. Nobody looks normal in those.
Lastly, I’m pretty sure that if one is nominated for an Oscar and cast in huge-budget films, one can fake an accent or learn how to.
