Jennifer Lawrence Hunger Games Interview: ‘I Love This Story’
In this week’s cover story, EW was granted an exclusive interview with a newly brunette Lawrence, and spent hours watching her train on a Los Angeles archery range and track, just days before she was due on the North Carolina set.
When Lawrence was offered the role, she describes her response as a mixture of elation-and desperate anxiety. “I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change,” she says. “And I walked around an entire day thinking ‘It’s not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven’t said yes yet, it’s not too late.’”
And yet, who can turn their back on Katniss? “I love this story,” she says, “and if I had said no, I would regret it every day.”

Does anyone else think that maybe she would look way prettier with darker hair? I’m not talking black, though I wouldn’t object to black hair, but I just think she would look gorgeous if they dyed her hair darker. It look like a regular brown color right now. It’s irritating. Lionsgate, dye it darker!!! =)

I get more excited with each posting. I have not had something to look forward to like this since i was pregnant with my first child. Sigh….i am so glad this is going to be a movie…and so much more glad that Lion’s Gate is doing it…we will have a great movie because of that one thing. Ms. Collins you done good. And to the folks that are being cast…i am so not envious of You Guys at all…those shoes of THESE characters will always fit only YOUR Feet. But getting them to fit will as Ms. Lawrence said…it will change your life. Peace!
Oh my God, she looks perfect! I was so, so skeptical when she was cast, and no I’m completely satisfied. She lost wright, it seems like! Definitely pulling off the District 12 look, and her hair and skin tone is absolutely gorgeous. I’m so stoked!

I would wish that they had dyed her hair darker, if not black. When I read the books in the hunger games it describes her with black hair not brown.

What more could you have? An actress who looks the part, can act the part, and is genuinely drawn to the story. The film is so lucky to have Jen onboard! Making the best of what they’ve got.

@lyric Not everyone has been cast yet, all the tributes have but they are still casting Cinna, Portia, Avox girl etc.
I’m still not entirely happy with her as Katniss I still think she looks a little bit too old for the part but now that I see her in costume I feel a little better about her, now I just need to see her in the film
I’m in love with Jennifer Lawrence after watching Winter’s Bone. Such an amazing actress.
She also looks like how I would picture Katniss when I was reading the books. Jennifer Lawrence is perfect for the role and will definitely do Katniss justice and beyond.

@Rylan- Yeah… a really dark brown or even black (not blue-black), I mean a soft brown=black would have looked even better on Jen. But Jen is going to be amazing. Jennifer, make Katniss memorable, as we all know you will!!!

This is a very good pic. I haven’t ever been so worried about her even though I’m overcritical of f how the casting was so limited and wrong.
On the negative side, she still looks old, her hair is not black and the pic is for a magazine cover so we can’t be sure if she will look like this in the movie. Tomorrow after letterman interview wil get a better idea of how she will really look.
The one thing I will never get over is the starcrossed lover thing with Josh. She still looks like her older sister but maybe they will pull it off somehow.I’m more concerned about Peeta’s and Gale’s
I mean no disrespect for Jennifer who I have seen in movies like the burning plain and winter’s bone and I have liked her performances. I’m not a Jlaw basher just skeptical. I’m more than a Lionsgate basher for the mess they did with the casting procces.
But I can always point out positive things.
On the positive side she looks younger in this picture, thinner which is a very very good sign, I think she might have already lost some weight. I also think that they might make her look even younger in the movie.some fans will be reassured after seeing this pic.
I’ve loved her as Katniss from the start and am so happy that most everyone is coming around!
Yeah I know that a movie will never be like a bookand that gary’s vision might not be exactly like in the book but according to the book descriptions and if she looks like this tomorrow in her live interviews she will be great.

At first, I didn’t quite like the pic and didn’t know why everybody was raving about it. To me, it still looked a little old, like some people above said.
And then I saw it: she’s completely transformed. She’s thinner, with darker skin, rugged appearance. But what’s best is that they managed to un-beautify her. She’s not the gorgeous Oscar nominee/cheerleader now. She’s become a normal, plain-looking girl. I think that’s why they gave her brown hair. Black would look unnatural on her and also striking. Brown makes her just “one of the crowd”. She could easily get unnoticed.

I could believe she was still in her teens if I hadn’t seen her before. Hell even now, it looks amazing. The styling people(or whoever they are) did an awesome job. Lionsgate really did pick a winner for this.

OT: Did anyone else hear they cast Saorise Ronan as Melanie Stryder in The Host? I love her but she is way too young to play a 22 year old who is supposed to look old for her age, love her hate the casting. Sorry needed to vent
Lol, what?! There are physical descriptions of Katniss in the book, and they weren’t followed by hair/makeup down to the tiniest detail??! This is such a revelation, I definitely thought Lionsgate’s top concern would be matching the physical desciption to every descriptive word in the book. No other book-to-film adaptation has ever changed the physical appearnce of a character. This is shocking news.
