LOS ANGELES, CA, May 31, 2011- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES are pleased to announce that Donald Sutherland has been cast in the role of President Snow in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel.
SUTHERLAND, star of such iconic films as M*A*S*H, Ordinary People , Klute and Kelly’s Heroes, will next be seen in this summer’s comedy, Horrible Bosses and recently starred in The Mechanic with Jason Statham and Ben Foster, The Eagle with Channing Tatum and the highly-successful long form adaptation of Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth.
President Snow has been the autocratic ruler of Panem and its contained districts for some 25 years at the outset of the story. With a snake-like appearance, he is cruel and ruthless in his intimidation and control tactics.

Southerland will steal all the screens he’s in. Its like the role was written for him to play. This will make the movie for alot of older fans, GREAT JOB with this casting.

He is such an AMAZING actor!! Sutherland isn’t really how I pictured President Snow to look like, but how can I complain?? The man is great on screen and can morph into any role given to him!!! He’ll be phenomenal

omg so on downwiththecapitol they have an article from a reporter in shelby and he said he was standing near the set and heard “welcome welcome welcome, happy hunger games” how exciting is tht. he heard effie trinket. he said normally he doesnt hear or see anything but tht day thts what he heard!!

The supporting cast so far is so freaking BRILLIANT! I didn’t think anyone could really capture my ideal of Snow, since mine kept flip flopping between Death in Supernatural and Julian Assange. But this guy… perfect!

I know Snow (LOL RHYME) is supposed to be small, thin, white-hairied, puffy-lipped, and snake-eyed, but I never had a legit mental image of him! (Despite all that description..) So seeing Mr. Sutherland was like an epiphany for me. XD Like, “THAT’S PREZ SNOW! NEAT-O!”
Honestly, this supporting cast is amazing. Sutherland, Kravitz, Tucci, Banks… Fun stuff, man. ;D

I’ve never seen him as an evil character and I can’t really imagine him as Snow, I wanted Christoph Waltz for the part but Sutherland is a birlliant actor so I am sure he can pull it off, it’s just I see him as Mr.Bennet and Buffy’s Watcher from the 1992 film

He’s great! Expecting someone younger, but he works. he’s a good actor too: saw him in pride and prejudice. All we have left to cast now is madge. i guess. and then a ton of little roles like peetas mom, the mayor, etc.

In relation to people wondering about MADGE…
They are film people, they are not going to want a lot of people. They will figure a way to work around the madge problem. They might bring her back in the second movie but thats it. They might not even have a madge. Its the movie. Somethings happen, somethings dont.
