After my grilled rabbit last time, quite a few of you asked for me to try making District 11 bread. It took me a few weeks, but here’s my attempt at it! It doesn’t taste very good, either because I’ve only baked bread twice in my life or because the recipe was just awful, but that lends to its authenticity, don’t you think?

Read the full recipe and see the inside of the bread at Fictional Food.

it looks great!
and first :3
Looks yummy!!!
I don’t understand why people feel the need to make a remark they are the first to comment. Trust me, we already know you’re the first to comment.
Also, the bread looks delicious.
Ooh, pretty [: lol
I’ve been first before, but I didn’t act dumb and yell “FIRSTTTT!!”
And neither do you people.
Anyway, it looks great!
**I mean “And neither SHOULD you people”! My bad.
So cool keep em comin (:

Those look great! I can totally imagine a little parachute falling from the sky with one of those attached
You should make District 4 bread with seaweed in it!
Looks good but I’m so freaking excited for the teaser trailer! But then I think, when it gets here, what will I have to look forward to besides the movie?? Still can’t wait! Sorry j knew this was besides the point ha…
Can I just say that I LOVE the new comment rating feature. It makes us tributes feel so much more connected. Thumbs up if you agree!
Just boosted up my imagination for the breads! maybe you can make the other district breads?
Oooo!!!! Try some more HG foods!!
y did my thing get thums down!!!!!!!!! i was saying something gud about the bread!!!!!!
“mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm” is an other way of saying yum
It looks good to me… then again Im not a picky eater. I guess I would survive in District 12, huh?
Oooh, this is totally something I could help out with!! I am actually a professional Baker so figuring out the bread of 11 and 12 would be near!
@Zoey I was thinking of doing District 12 bread, which I’m guessing is made without yeast as Katniss calls it “dense” bread.
Errr.. I mean ‘neat’. Stupid autocorrect.. =/
This is cool but what’s the purpose if they taste awful? Also they look very capitolish lol cuz they’re so perfectly shaped…. If peeta was here the bread would be perfect… Not that it’s not already it’s just peeta makes everything better….
@Cilla848 Well, I hadn’t tried the recipe before. If I make it again, adding sugar should be fine. That’s what usually makes bread taste good. As for the shape, Katniss mentions how pretty they are and how much nicer they look than District 12 biscuits. They were very, very easy to shape that nicely, even my 7 year old daughter made a few!
Nice,just like the movie.
its just a croisant. stupid people
Hahaha, it’s kind of ironic that it doesn’t taste good, since most if the food is kind of blah. Well, except for the Capital food.
Those look great! Awesome job!
They look so pretty. I want one.
Looks like you could have saved yourself a couple weeks and just bake Pillsbury crescents.
@Linsday They had to be whole wheat.
This looks like it came from a Pillsbury tube
it’s not supposed to be a crescent exactly…just shaped tht way…
@Crystal Not necessarily, at my bakery we make several ‘dense’ hearty breads that all use some form of yeast. I’m figuring that District 12′s bread is probably an Old World-style sourdough, possibly wholegrain or a rye-base.
Being that the general area is poor (even the ‘well off’ people like the Mellarks are likely considered impoverished by Capitol standards anyway), being able to make soft fluffy white bread is probably beyond their means.
I’m thinking whole wheat, sourdough, and in big miche style loaves. When Peeta deliberately burnt two loaves for Katniss, it was enough bread for her family survive on for awhile.
Miche loaves are huge, round loaves, weighing 1 to 3 kilograms, that can last a week or more. Many customers at my bakery usually buy just half a loaf and eat it over the course of the whole week.
They are dense because they’re usually mostly whole wheat, and the sourdough yeast rises very slowly, which also helps keep the bread tasty for days and days after it’s baked.
Woah, sorry for the book report, I get waaay to into my subject sometimes. =P
@Zoey Haha, no problem, it was interesting! Like I mentioned, this is only the second time I’ve baked bread. I used whole wheat flour for this and am now thinking that maybe the poppy seed taste is what I didn’t like about the bread.
There are other seeds you could use. The book was never specific about what seeds were in the bread. You could try pumpkin or sunflower seeds, or a mixture!
