Glen Hansard To Be on ‘The Hunger Games’ Soundtrack?
Today we got a tip via email from Chas:
“At a concert in Berlin in October 2011, Academy Award-winner Glen Hansard announced that he would be featured on the movie’s soundtrack album of The Hunger Games and played a song written from Katniss’s perspective.”
The song in the video above is cited online by some people as a possible ‘Hunger Games’ inspired song which he played at the end of September (from what he says before he plays it, sure sounds like the Hunger Games, what else could he be taking about?), but there is no video of him announcing that he’ll be on the soundtrack. I only found a few people discussing this online, apart from our tip from Chas. Lionsgate has not confirmed anything. You probably know Glen Hansard from his song ‘Falling Slowly.’ If you have more info, let me know! If you search ‘Berlin Glen Hansard October 2011′ you can see that there was a concert in October there, I just can’t find any video evidence of Chas’ claim. I hope it’s true!

I bet he’s on the soundtrack but he wasnt supposed to say anything, but by accident he let it slip….
So this is the song that’s supposedly on the soundtrack? This sounds great! I’m glad they’re going for this kind of sound, instead of Muse/Paramore/etc. If this is true, that is.
great!
Wow, I like it. I agree with @Justin, I prefer this sound than more mainstream, alternative-pop sound.
Great news if it’s true. “Once” was a brilliant movie, with chilling music.
I prefer Falling Slowly over Come Away, but the guy is obviously amazing, so I wouldn’t mind him or music similar to this being on the soundtrack.
Who knows, maybe he’ll win a second Academy Award!
Wow … yeah what the heck else could that description (the one he gave before he started the song) be about?? I haven’t been able to listen to the whole thing yet because I’m at work but I’ll check it out as soon as I get a chance. 100% agree with others that music like this is a MUCH better choice for the soundtrack than top 40 hits, because top 40 hits will just make the movie seem dated 5 seconds after it’s released. It won’t stand the test of time. It will also make it seem like that much more of a “teeny bopper” movie if they go that direction. Plus, folk and/or bluegrass type music fits with the setting of the books much better anyway. Thank god they have T-Bone Burnett on this thing. (Not t mention Danny Elfman).
AHHAHHH There’s no way this CAN’T be Hunger Games related!! It fits right into the scene when the gamemakers are trying to draw the tributes towards the lake so that they’re promised a bloodbath. This made my day and I’m even more anxious for March to get here!!!!
That TOTALLY gave me the chills. WOW. I could kind of see it being played as “background” music during the reaping, but I really agree with @Fanglover101 when the tributes are trying to be drawn to the lake!
WOW.
:S
I’m not very excited if they’re leaning towards this kind of music (no offense to anyone, just my opinion) I don’t like paramore, but I like Muse x) I was hoping they’d use Metric songs! But I’m sure anything they use (even this music) they will tie in nicely
Yes, I agree with the others, I’m so glad that they’d try to get more of this sort of sound to the movie, instead of mainstream music. Exactly what I was looking for in this movie, the exact feeling I wanted this movie to give off. Everyone working on this movie are very smart people, very talented people. They really know how give off a certain emotion. I think this movie is truly going to be perfection.
O.k. I just got a chance to listen to the whole thing, and WOAH … this HAS to be related to the Hunger Games!! The lyrics plus his initial description are just too perfect … This would be a great song for the movie. I hope it’s true! Now I’ll be disappointed if it turns out to be false.
My brother and his wife are super into this guy and his group the Swell Season, and I haven’t paid much attention to him or The Swell Season before now, but after hearing this, I probably will be paying attention to him.
Wait what is he saying at the beggining?? It’s very loud and I am at school
can someone please tell me I beg u!
Does anyone know what he says in the beginning? I can’t understand.
he says its about inviting someone to the water to eat and drink but then to kill
I bet this song will be like on the train when katniss is thinking about her family or getting on the train
I honestly love the idea of this song in the movie, but not just his genre or any particular one at all, we need a mix to resemble the mixed emotions played through the book <3
@Jessi – Yeah I had to listen to it a few times turned up loud on headphones to get it. I think he’s saying this: “The strong one calling the weak to the water to eat and drink … so that they can kill them.”
wow, the lyrics fit so well!
I think that the music in the movie is going to be very interesting. I know they said that there is going to be several different styles of music throughout the film and, honestly, thats all they can do. This type of music is absolutely PERFECT for SOME scenes, but I wouldn’t be surprised to hear completely different and even the opposite of this type of music during capitol scenes, for example. It should truly be interesting to see the variety of music that comes out of this movie :]
I’m excited ;]
Plus, I love this song…it has to be for hunger games… “Come away little lamb, come away to the slaughter. Give yourself up so we may live anew” Make it a little more obvious please :]!!
@NatiMellark – “I wouldn’t be surprised to hear completely different and even the opposite of this type of music during capitol scenes, for example.”
Oh yeah definitely; good point. The Capitol scenes will and should have a totally different feel to them.
This song is incredibly beautiful. I am so keen for this to be on the soundtrack, please please please let it be true!
Lyrics: Enjoy!
Come Away
Come away little lass, come away to the water to the arms that are
reaching only for you. Come away little lass, come away to the
water to the ones appointed to see it through. We are calling to you.
Come away little lad, come away to the laughter to the path that is
open wide to the new. Come away little lad come away to the
laughter to the one last promise to always hold true. We are calling
for you. We are coming for you.
Come away little lamb, come away to the water to the ones who
were lost and don’t know what to do. Come away little lamb,
come away to the slaughter. Give yourself up so we may live
anew. We are coming for you. We are calling for you.
Come away little lass, come away to the water to the ones that
are waiting only for you. Come away little lad, come away to
the slaughter to the ones who appointed to see it through.
We are calling to you x2
Love Hansard. Love the Hunger Games.
Hope and pray it is true!
I am in awe of this! 0.0
It’s so subtly creepy and chilling! I hope this really is on the soundtrack. I’m glad they’re going in this direction!
Okay, I actually LOVE this song. I could so it playing while they’re on the train to the Capitol.
I agree with Ava. I was also thinking about music like Muse (NOT Paramore). The song Uprising would be perfect for Mockingjay (part 1 or 2).
Confirmation here from Aoifebella
who heard him talk about this in Letterkenny (Ireland):

Read her comment there on how he said he had been asked to write a song for The Hunger Games.
I love it!!!!!! This is a style I like anyway. But the lyrics are extremely chilling. And this has got to be about the Hunger Games!!
Thank you for another informative site. Where else could I get that type of information written in such a perfect manner?
I’ve a undertaking that I’m simply now running on, and I have been at the look out for
such info.
