Join the Mockingjay.net Book Club

Scholastic emailed us a couple of weeks ago asking if we’d be willing to review a book called Tomorrow Girls: Behind the Gates
and this gave me the idea that it might be nice to start a book club for Mockingjay.net readers to read and discuss books new and old that bear some similarity to our beloved Hunger Games. While ‘The Hunger Games’ can never truly be replaced in our eyes, as readers we always look for something new to feast our eyes on and this will be a great way for us to read and interact on a whole new level.
I’m still working out the finer details, but basically, I’ll try to find 1-2 books to cover per month. I’ll start by posting the book we’ll read and then give you guys 2-3 weeks to get your hands on it, whether by e-reader, library, borrowing, or purchasing, and read it. I’ve set up a Book Club page so that you can comment with suggestions on titles you’d like to see chosen. The first book will be the above-mentioned book. We will begin discussion of this book on November 1, 2011.
Synopsis:
In a terrifying future world, four girls must depend on each other if they want to survive. Louisa is nervous about being sent away to a boarding school — but she’s excited, too. And she has her best friend, Maddie, to keep her company. The girls have to pretend to be twin sisters, which Louisa thinks just adds to the adventure!
Country Manor School isn’t all excitement, though. Louisa isn’t sure how she feels about her new roommates: athletic but snobby Rosie and everything’s-a-conspiracy Evelyn. Even Maddie seems different away from home, quiet and worried all the time. Still, Louisa loves CMS — the survival skills classes, the fresh air. She doesn’t even miss not having a TV, or the internet, or any contact with home. It’s for their own safety, after all. Or is it?
Comment here to let me know if you plan on joining in!

Well, I would love to join!!! And First!
Ooh, that book sounds goooood!
Definitely!
Definitely plan on it!
i would love too!!!
Yay! Sounds great!
Joining! Winning!
I would join!
On the weekdays I could only post in the evenings though, I have school and marching band during the day. D:
Two really good books are Divergent and Matched. I could NOT stop reading!
try looking for alaska by John Green or miss peregrine’s home for peculiar children, they’re both very good ones… But Looking for Alaska is maybe more mature than the Hunger Games demorgraphic is shooting for. And we do have a forum, with an “Other Books” section, but I still love this!
@GaleHawthorne I know, but I wanted to keep this on the front page rather than forums. Also, the forums issue is still going on!
awsome
book recomendation: THE SECRETS OF THE IMMORTAL NICOLAS FLEMAL SERIES
I couldn’t find a way to comment on the new page, but I suggest Ender’s Game (goes well with HG book 1) and 1984 (HG book 3)
@Smartalec Hehe, I had Ender’s Game in mind for the second or third book! And I”m sorry about comments, I have to talk to Kimmy about enabling it for pages.
I’m down for participating in a book club.
I don’t know how i feel about this 1st book though. Based on the synopsis, I might pass.
This sounds kooli think you guys should do the maze runner
I don’t know…Isn’t this a middle grade book?
But yeah! I would love to do abook club with maybe some other dystopia novels!
WE SHOULD READ UNWIND!
I love the idea but NOO book will EVER be like the hunger games. What it says about this book, it doesnt seem to be distopian but rather a book on friendship in the future. Maybe i’ll give it a try.
Yeah, totally
Sadly though, this will never be equal to The Hunger Games Trilogy
I’m always looking for the next good book. I’d be honored to join.
I’m reading a book called The Eleventh Plague. Look it up on Amazon. i guarantee you’ll love it.
I’m gonna siggest for the Book CLub tiger’s curse. There is a part that reminds me so much of katniss having nighmares and peeta coming and cuddling her. So romantic!
I WANNA JOIN!
And @Megan
Good suggestions! I just finished reading Divergent (which all Hunger Games fans should read!) and I am almost done Matched! (also really good)
Haha CMS is my school.
You guys should definately do maze runner, ender’s game, and the dead and the gone series. Those would be really cool.
Count me in!! When do we need to have the book read by?
@Shelley November 1!
@presidentsnow mine is too!
anyway i dont think i have time to do a book club, but i will definitely read all of the books you read. Ever since i finished reading the hunger games<3 i have like a "hunger games hangover" and its really hard to find any books that even come in the vacinity of the hunger games<3
Count me in.
i agree with staywithme-always.
i will try to read all the books mentioned by you. just want a interesting book again. xD even if it meens i have to read them all in english
That book actually looks really good. I think I might read it. and I’d love to hear about other books that are similar to The Hunger Games!
