‘Hunger Games’ Trailer Press Release – Full Trailer Only Contains Footage From First Half of Movie

SANTA MONICA, CA (November 14, 2011) – The full trailer for the highly anticipated upcoming film THE HUNGER GAMES, which will be released by Lionsgate on March 23, 2012, debuted today. Following its national broadcast premiere on ABC’s Good Morning America in which the trailer was introduced by Josh Hutcherson, it was made available worldwide on iTunes Movie Trailers (www.itunes.com/trailers). The trailer can be viewed here.

In an attempt to preserve the anticipation and mystery that fans are relishing, the trailer only shows footage from the first half of the film, chronicling events leading up to but not including the Games themselves. After giving fans their first look at all of the book’s beloved characters brought to life, giving viewers who haven’t read the book vital information about the world of Panem, the trailer ends with an electrifying cliffhanger right as Katniss enters the arena.

Hm… not quite. There’s a glimpse at the sign to District 11, which is in the second half for sure.

Anyone else dying of suspense here?

I like the fact that they didn’t show a lot. It keeps us guessing which in turn keeps everyone hooked. I loved the trailer! I especially loved the line by Cinna!

I think that it was appropriate that there was no kissing between Peeta and Katniss. BEcause that would kill it Irekon.

@FinnickLover . Will there be a blood poisoning scene? :)

I think Effie looks a little bit too weird …

I liked the trailer, but that red dress is a disappointment.

And holy balls, Stanley Tucci looks like a creeper, but a totally awesome Panem creeper.

It’s good that they don’t give away to much, I never liked that about the Twilight trailers…

The cliffhanger’s an interesting idea, and the countdown is thrilling, but it may have been a mistake not to show any of the events inside the arena. If someone who doesn’t know the books sees this, are they going to be intrigued enough by the cliffhanger to buy into the film? Especially the romantic angle with Peeta and Katniss. That started in the interview segments; I’m surprised they didn’t give us any of that. The trailer was good for hardcore fans but it remains to be seen whether it appeals to a wider audience that’s necessary for a film to succeed.

@RENEE, based on the reactions I’ve heard/read from people who haven’t read the book, the cliffhanger is largely having the same effect on them as it is on us! The end of the trailer leaves everyone at the edge of their seats, and gets them really pumped to see the actual movie! I think it’s genius!

@SMA11, that’s good, since the trailer is about to hit a huge audience!

That countdown at the end is more then enough to draw people into the movie. I’ve been with these books since the beginning, waiting for the rest of the series to be released, and I am proud to say we have been watching the birth of a phenomenon. When the Huger Games hits the big screen, critics will be blown away. We got this :L

And cinna seemed good to ! but i liked the thought of jennifer lawrence when she was first cast but after seeing the trailer i liked her as katniss way less. And district 12 looked NOTHING like i imagined it would look. But im still gonna see the movie. Haha

The only thing I wish for Caesar is for blue lipstick. I don’t see blue lipstick on Stanley, but the hair is perfect :)

I’m not sure about the capitol…it looked a little too industrious to me…i imagined it much more colorful and bright with taller buildings. but you never know, they didn’t show much.

So I rewatched it, for like the millioneth time, and only just now noticed the numbers on everyone’s training uniforms, how cool is that? :)

And I have decided Seneca Crane’s beard is the best beard ever!

“What was that you were saying just before the food arrived? Something about me...no competition...best thing that ever happened to you..." [says Peeta.]
"I don't remember that last part," I say, hoping it's too dim in here for the cameras to pick up my blush.
"Oh, that's right. That's what I was thinking," he says.”
