Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns appeared on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street to respond about the talks of a merger between Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment, saying that while it makes sense for them to merge, they never chase a deal. He goes on to talk more about their initial acquisition of ‘The Hunger Games’, their hopes for ‘Chaos Walking’, and even gives a mockingjay pin to host Melissa Lee.

Chaos Walking is an amazing trilogy. It has a lot of potential if done right, and could earn Lionsgate another big series after THG. If anyone hasn’t read it, I recommend it full-heartedly.

well good for them! They seem to really want to succeed and they’re very confident with how The Hunger Games has turned out so that just makes me more excited! I’m happy it seems that the merger isn’t going to happen because when Lionsgate succeeds it’ll make them feel better when they see that they did it all on their own

I know that this is really off topic but, is he in a wheelchair?

oh, thank you for clarifying, michael burns. i’ve never been necessarily AGAINST a lionsgate merger with summit or anyone else, but i had hoped lionsgate was feeling solid enough to at least give THG and 2012 in general a try before seriously bringing up talk of a merger. i’m glad burns has confirmed that they ARE in fact confident about what they’re putting out in the near future and while they’re not saying a merger will never happen, they’ll stick it out on their own for the moment and see how that goes. that’s all i wanted to hear from them. really psyched for them right now!

It is good to hear an executive talk about principles. So many people forget that a company is nothing without open and reputable leaders making wise decisions for the good of their reputations and the the reputations of their employees.

Ok, so I’m not quite sure what it means to merge. Can someone explain please?

“Chaos Walking” is next on my to-read list, the premise sounds fascinating. Anything he says about the merger is of course exec-speak so I don’t pay it much heed.
