Allure Magazine, which boasts quite a few Hunger Games fans on staff, has examined Katniss’ Opening Ceremonies look and talked with The Hunger Games makeup artist Ve Neill on you can accomplish the same look on your own. (though it seems we’re all still in the dark about her hair!)
Eyes: Neill used M.A.C. Eyeshadow in Orange to create the flare in the outer corners before lining her eyes in black cream liner. She added Urban Decay False Lashes in Lure for extra intensity. “The more makeup you put on a beautiful woman, the more exotic and mature she looks,” said Neill. “We wanted to keep her looking really youthful.”
Cheeks: Neill drew attention to her “beautiful, heart-shaped face” by highlighting her cheekbones with M.A.C. Lustre Drops in Sunrush (a liquid gold highlighter).
Lips: Those lips (which spend the last half of the Games kissing Peeta) were amped up with L’Oréal Infallible Lipgloss in Fiery (a bronzey pink). “We wanted it to be clean, crisp beauty with touches of color,” Neill said.

@Marina
That looks really cool! You did a great job, it makes me think of someone from the Capitol secretly supporting Katniss and the rebellion

@Nadine Thanks! I need to clean it up a bit, but for a first try, I didn’t think it was too bad! That’s kind of what I was going for! A little crazy, but still reminiscent of the Mockingjay and the flames!
I love that we’re finding out exactly what the actors/actresses are wearing–McQueen’s booties, MAC eyeshadows…it’s fun!

Don’t wanna b all pessimistic, but, correct me if I’m wrong, Cinna purposely didn’t put a lot of makeup on Katniss….I believe he said something like…. “We want the people to remember you in the Games, lots of makeup would hide who u really are”

Wow. Now imagine them on fire. Yikes!

@Katniss Potter
She isn’t wearing a lot of makeup. They used the makeup in a natural way to emphasize the beauty she already has. That’s how I always imagined it in the book, and that’s how I see it in the picture.

I tottlaly agree. You can’t expect every little detail from the book to be in the movie. And she said that Cinna only put liners on to bring out her features.

They look OUTSTANDING!!!! When I saw this, I screamed! I’m so excited. I love their facial expressions, too. If I had to do this, I would be TERRIFIED!!! Hahahaha ![]()

The hair is good, but the outfits are a bit weird. I imagined something a bit…simpler. Either way, I’m excited for this movie! Can’t wait till March!!

As someone who loves, loves, loves makeup, I really appreciate this post! I actually just did a look inspired by THG that I’m going to wear to the midnight showing. It’s a little messy, but I didn’t take the time to clean it up before I posted, ha ha! I linked it as my website.
Gah! I can’t wait to see up close pics of this look so I can try and recreate it! This movie just looks so aesthetically PERFECT.
