Gary Ross Interview with Fandango
Thanks to one of our readers for sending a link to this new interview from Fandango with director Gary Ross. He talks more about how perfect Jennifer Lawrence is for the role, how the books affected him so much, the point of view of the movie, and the beautiful story arc of Katniss Everdeen. He talks in detail about his collaboration with Suzanne Collins on the script. Here’s a brief transcript of some of the interview:
Fandango: There’s been a lot of three, four, three, four. How many are there going to be?
Gary Ross: Um… You know, I’m not sure.
Fandango: How many have you signed on for?
Gary Ross: I have committed to the next one.
Fandango: Have you started filming it yet?
Gary Ross: I have not started filming yet.
Fandango: But you already have a release date?
Gary Ross: [laughs] Yes, we already have a release date.

He seems so awkward in this interview, lol
Bless you Gary Ross. BLESS YOU!
He is so awesome. I absolutely loved his answer to the book to film adaptation question.
the 23rd isnt coming fast enough (sigh) why!
Gary Ross: I. Love. You.
Thank you Gary Ross for clearing things up for me! I was starting to lose faith a little bit but, now I know that I can trust this beloved series in your hands! No worrying anymore but, seriously, GET US A TRAILER!!
only 53 days, 4 hours, 42 minutes, and 26 seconds till the hunger games! (Obsessed much) haha
I love the way Gary describes Katniss story arc and how Peeta is. Its so concise. Really says to me that he saw the vision as he read the books.
i just love how enthusiastic he is about the books, the whole project of the movie, and the work he, and the cast and the crew, have done on it. nothing draws me to a movie more than feeling like those involved in it truly loved working on it.
and the way he talks about katniss, and about her involvement with peeta and her character development, it’s obvious that he’s sat and thought these characters through, much like any of us readers and fans have. listening to him talk about this, it makes me feel like he’s a fan, just like i am. and that reinforces my belief that he’ll do a great job with this film, because he wants it to do justice to the book just like i would.
honestly, if i weren’t already convinced this is going to be amazing, this interview would’ve done the trick. thank you, gary ross!
We are lucky to have him as our director! He really loves the material
Can somebody post or give a link for the full transcript, because it won’t play…and I might cry if I don’t find out what he said
FANTASTIC interview. I really love it. you can find it on youtube by just searching “gary ross fandango”
WOW…Just WOW! I have complete faith in him after this interview. I REALLY hope that Hunger Games gets a best adapted screenplay nomination next year at the oscars!
For the people thumbing down my comment, I just read the Q&A, but apparently the interview was a lot more meaningful. And I didn’t mean awkward as a bad thing. The written answers just seemed lacking, but he can’t tell us everything, right? It would ruin the surprise!
Lol
I just feel bad that people don’t like my comment when I didn’t just say it as an intention to be rude.
Anyways, haha, I’m gonna go now :p
Just watched the video. It made me 10x more excited!!!!!
I think this whole thing can turn out really great—only thing is…that everyone keeps on sying how great J.L. is so that my expectations are rising and rising everytime I hear someone say how awesome she is…. I hope my expectations can still be met.
This is an awesome interview! I really love Gary Ross. I’ve never been so excited for something in my entire life!
Gary Ross, YOU. ARE. A GENUIS. He’s awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
