I think you all made good points but I really disagree about Katniss not loving Peeta. When I read Catching Fire I could see Katniss falling in love with him. The problem is romantic love is just something she never so she fought her feeling and used her confusion over Gale as an excuse. Katniss is sixteen when all of this starts and it hard enough for adults to recognize their emotions. For me reading certain things in Catching Fire and Mockingjay were clues to how she really felt even when Katniss herself seemed unsure. I know that sounds kind of weird but think about when you friend tells you a story like how they get into a fight with someone. You as their friend may see the reason for their actions before they do.
I love the character discussions. On Gale: I thought having a love triangle was a disservice to the characters and series. The main point of Gale’s character arc is to show what even an originally noble person is capable of when they choose to cross the line in times of distress or war. It is why I still believe Peeta is the strongest character in the series in that he fought so hard not to loose what he believed in. Gale always just came across more like a protective older brother than a love interest. I think she loved Gale but was in love with Peeta. She just had more important things to deal with than to spend time discerning the two. I still cringe when I hear comments that Katniss didn’t love Peeta. She admitted she needed him and for Katniss, as Gale had already pointed out, that is more important than romantic love and in the end once she felt that “hunger” for Peeta again I am sure she eventually worked that romantic love was not too bad either.
Peeta is so the choice. I mean all Gale is is hunting. Katniss can do that and she can take care of herself and Peeta. She did that during the Hunger Games. Peeta is HOT and has a really good personality. I mean this is what Katniss says: Not Gales fire kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What i need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses, that it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.”
I still wish she picked Gale, so I can have Peeta. Oh well. I deserve him
I litterally JUST saw the movie like an hour ago and it was AMAZING! I’m from Denmark and the guy working at the movie theater actually told us all that since we were the first to watch it, even before people in the US, NO cellphones were permitted during the film (in case anyone would film it) and if he saw any he would immediately stop the film and there would be no refonds. Luckily no one had their phones out and we got to see the whole film. Both me and my friend (who hasn’t read the books) LOVED it!
By the way Denmark is awesome (You know it Selina!) and I love the show.
