The BBFC have released their classification for The Hunger Games. Originally the film was classified as 15 and at the request of Lionsgate UK, 0 minutes and 7 seconds worth of cuts and digital alterations were made in one scene of the film in order to achieve a 12a category in the UK:

The company chose to make cuts in order to achieve a ’12A’ classification. A number of cuts were made in one scene to reduce an emphasis on blood and injury. These cuts, which were implemented by digitally removing sight of blood splashes and sight of blood on wounds and weapons, were made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines and policy. An uncut ’15′ classification was available. These cuts were made in addition to reductions already made following an earlier ‘advice’ viewing of an incomplete version

The Hunger Games now has a UK running time of 142 minutes and 18 seconds with the following consumer advice: “Contains intense threat, moderate violence and occasional gory moments.”

surely they would put it as deleted scenes in the dvd??

Is that wat the uk uses as ratings???

    Kopii

You can always buy the US version DVD when it comes out… to see those 7 seconds…

How can 7 seconds change a movie rating? Seriously.

    OOOOOO!!!!!! BUT BUT BUT – I NEED TO SEE THOSE … 7SECONDS :o I HAVE TO….

this is the dumbest thing ever… why not just leave it as a 15?

  9.
    THG rocks your socks

YES! For those of us everywhere else, that means there’ll be BLOOD

    Alie

I wonder what scene it is! My guess is Cato’s death. And to UK fans, don’t worry, im sure the 7 seconds will be posted somewhere soon!

  11.

But I thought it was PG13 in the UK! Why do 7 seconds of it have to be changed for us? I want to see the whole thing!

  12.
    Caitlin

My guess is that it might be Rue’s death and the death of the spear throwing boy by Katniss’ arrow (blood splashes)

1st- Holy Crows, What happened to the lay out of the site!?

2nd- I find this a bit ridiculous. I mean, 7 less seconds, and less blood, dropped the rating? How bad could it possible have been? That seems like a waste of work…did the rating really need to change?

Ugghhhhh , WTF?!?!?!?!????????? That is so annoying and totally unfair to the fans of the books!!! The violence and blood is important , why would they try to take away the emphasis on that? If there is no blood and intense violence at the cornucopia I will actually complain. Haha I know I’m probably obereacring but I’m really pis**d off

What?! It WAS a 15?! AWESOME! ;D Shame they had to cut… even if it was just 7 seconds. -.-
I was secretly hoping it’ll be rated 15, but I’ll be okay with 12A.
Then again those over 15 know what to expect in a ’15 film’… so WHY make the cut still? This is Sucker Punch all over again ): lol
There is no point in cutting 7 seconds…

Lets hope they have an extended DVD or Bluray version!! :)

Ummmm okay that’s a little odd……it must have been a bloody 7seconds for them to want to go to the trouble to cut it down ….

What the crap happened to they layout?

  18.
    BEE.

Love the layout btw [: haha

TO BE CLEAR guys, it says 7 seconds were cut AND/OR altered. so it could be that the full 7 seconds were just removing blood, they won’t necessarily be cut from the film.

i’ll post the 7 seconds that are different on YouTube once it’s out on DVD, if nobody else has done it by then.

Alter 7 seconds of your movie to expand your marketable audience greatly. Makes sense.

    TheHungerGames

God damn it! I SWEAR TO GOD, THOSE 7 SECONDS BETTER BE POSTED SOMEWHERE ELSE. THE BLOODLY BATTLE IS A KEY PART OF THE BOOKS/FILM! Why let the Americans see it and not the rest of the world? *facepalms*

I really hope this is only for the UK, if the cuts are in the movie that comes here in Norway I will go mad >:(

    Renate

Aerandir: agree, i’m from Norway 2 btw:)

This is ridiculous! It should be a 15, because it’s a film about children being forced too kill each other, of course it’s supposed too be gory and bloody and disturbing, that’s kind of the point. Plus in the uk no one really regulates who goes in to watch films above their age anyway, 12 yr olds get into 15′s all the time. It seems totally ridiculous to me tbh.

I have to admit I am rather disappointed with this, by the sounds of it UK are the only ones who have rated the version every other country got a 15 and made cuts… even Ireland (who are normally a lot more strict on ratings than us) have recieved a 12A with the american version (I may be wrong but they recieved a rating before us so… I presume they OK’ed it first time round) So meh, I feel they’ve gone a bit OTT, I am sure 12A would have been fine with those 7 seconds especially since the BBFC have added ‘occasional gory moments’ meaning there must still be some forms of blood/gore left in the edit (thankfully) meh… I will have to buy the american DVD or hope UK will decide to release a unedited ’15′ rating cut… ohwell… film will be amazing no doubt!! Just slightly disappointed they decided to cut it.

Super dissapointed in this! I want to see the original version, even if it is 7 seconds. I might cry, this sucks.

This makes me sad. The thing they need to understand is that the film is a 12A. That means 12 but accompanied by an adult, so that makes me think that the adult will have to find out the nature of the film and be able to assume this film is too gory or not for their child. We’ve had some scary and gory films that have been quite bad for a 12 but it’s never affected it. I know they wanted a 12 so the younger people can see it but blood and gore is on tv and in films all the time, the splash of blood isn’t going to upset kids if they’re already seeing Clove’s head bashed in and Cato mauled by mutts or whatever.
People need to know that this isn’t a cheerful film, it’s obvious what it’s about, why cut stuff out? It’s obvious we were expecting blood, it’s about kids killing kids, we know that. Sigh..
just thought i’d add something in. Hopefully we’ll see the uncut version on the dvd, not as a deleted scene but in the movie lol.

  28.

I hope that these 7 seconds are just for the UK , not for Ireland!

  29.
    TheHungerGames

    @Ronan
Sadly, it has been confirmed that the Irish rating for THG is 12A too :( I guess we have to look on *the bright side* of things and be grateful that its only 7 seconds. I guess it could be a whole lot worse. But yeah, im still super annoyed.

    Clara

That is so great, I’m really happy for everyone from the UK, though Sweden is having a rough time to make it have 11A, cause theres no PG-13 och 12A here, but lets hope for the best!

  31.
    D

    :O noooooooooo

  32.
    RebeccaB.

Will those seven seconds be shown in the US, though? Like in the theaters and such.

  33.
    CSS

To be fair, the US rated “The Dark Night” PG13 and “Slumdog Millionaire” an R. Besides, 7 seconds kinda means nothing story wise. Your eyes will be closed a vast time more than that during the movie.

  34.
    Susie

Noooo! Now I’m just gonna be sitting there wondering which bit it was XD I wish we had pg13 in the UK. Though I suppose we won’t have to sneak in my vertically challenged young friend anymore…urgh and people we can’t get the american dvds they don’t work in uk dvd players D:< so damn annoyed about this…

  35.
    Peter

    @Susie
If you have a DVD player that plays certain reigon codes you can, I own all the Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVDs on a american DVD and they’re fine on my Xbox and DVD player in the living room, they just don’t work on my personal DVD player in my room.

  36.
    Rex

People are getting mad and talking about crying…for 7 seconds…really? Besides, it make sense to cut/alter 7 SECONDS to greatly increase the audience. It’s a business move, and a smart one at that.

And people should really stop whining about how it’s the Hunger Games, and it should have a high rating. You guys watch Battle Royale? Now THAT should get a high rating.

  37.
    :)

they took the seven second off when katniss was applying medicine to her bloody burnt leg, bloody weapon, wounds, and violence

  38.
    ?????

THE HUNGER GAMES MOVIE IS AMAZING, HA NEW ZEALAND DIDNT CUT OFF SEVEN SECOND!!!! AND IT WAS ONLY RATED ‘M’
