The Hunger Games | Richard Roeper | Roeper’s Movie Reviews | Movie Trailer | Review

Richard Roeper gives his thoughts on the difference between the book vs the movie, saying that the sacrifices made to condense the book to a 2 1/2 hour movie were all good choices and still true to the books. He and I seem to be very well aligned when it comes to the different experiences the movie and the book provides for people!

This guy is exactly right. People need to stop freaking out over little details and notice all the main plot points that were included, as well as additional scenes outside of Katniss’ point of view. Stuff like the cave scenes being shortened and her search for water being cut out are disappointing, however stuff like Buttercup being the wrong color is one example of of the things people need to let go. The movie was stellar despite all!

What about the facts that they left out Greasy Sae, and are going to leave Darius, Bonnie, and Twill out of Catching Fire? All of the characters play important roles and with out them the story just can’t be the same. It’s like when Finnick dies, that character that you have gotten to know and have fallen in love with is no longer there.

I couldn’t agree with him more.

What I love is that they have changed what they changed and taken out or added what they did, but I am feeling (even still today) the EXACT same way I felt after reading the book.

I don’t know about everyone else, but something about that book lingers for days after you finish it, and that’s exactly what’s going on with the movie for me.

The fact that they could pull that off (and maybe not for everybody, but definitely for me and probably many others) is absolutely remarkable.

I think every hunger games fan needs to watch this. Especially the ones that are angry that tiny parts didn’t make it into the movie. I LOVED the movie because I saw it as it is: a movie. I knew that certain parts could never have been in it because then the movie would be 5 hours long (which I wouldn’t mind…). But ya, I totally agree with Roeper.

I loved the movie dont get me wrong but one thing i am dying to see hopefully in Catching Fire is how they are going to address Peeta’s leg being gone since they did not focus on it in the film. Anyone else excited about how that’s going to be addressed ?

I know that they cut out big things (like the cave secene being cut short, the mentoring, most of the train ride, and the berry scene wasn’t as emotional as it should’ve been, and PEETA’S LEG!(I don’t get how they could’ve cut THAT out, it was a huge part of the story)) but I think that they could’ve done something about the little things that wouldn’t affect the movie length at all. Like Katniss’s nails, Peeta’s eyes, and a little more backstory. Also I didn’t feel any real emotional connection between the characters. At least not the way you would feel the connection in the book. It didn’t emphasize enough how much Peeta was really helping Katniss ever since he was 11. AND WHERE WAS PEETA’S DAD! AND MADGE! AND THE AVOX GIRL! GAAAH! In actuality the movie was only 2 hours long because there was a half hour of commercials. They could’ve made it 3 hours and added more depth in it. The book is so much more amazing. I just really hope that they make up for it in Catching Fire (because that’s my favorite in the book series)

The movie doesnt show how the games are a curse to Panem

Everyone seemed to enjoy them and be ok with them, except when they were in and even so, the other tributes didnt seem as scared as Katniss

The one big thing i wished they hadn’t taken out was katniss’ reaction when they revoke the rule that two tributes could win. I think that then she raises her bow to peeta it completely shows the contrast between her and Peeta. She closed and distrustful of the world while Peeta is the opposite. I think it really showed the complexity of Katniss and also set up peeta for his *spoiler kinda* fall, in the later novels

I feel better after seeing his review. I have to admit, i was a little cheesed after seeing the movie…counting up all the things i saw they had left out. However, after seeing this review, i get it. They had two hours and as a movie, it was pretty entertaining. Although, let it be said, i would have hung in for a third hour to include everything…even at risk of my bladder.

I loved Richard Roeper. His reviews was one of the main ones I was nervously awaiting before the movie came out, because I know he is trustworthy.
