Buy ‘District 12′ for $1.4 Million

Have you added visiting the set location for District 12 to your bucket list? Well what if you could just buy it instead? If you’ve got $1.4 million hanging around, sure! CNBC is reporting that Henry River Mill Village, the location for the shots of the Seam in District 12, has been put up for sale by the owner for a cool $1.4M.
The owner of the 72-acre property, Wade Shepherd, told the AP that the area is getting bombarded by fans driving by and taking photos “day and night.”
While he’s not a “Hunger Games” fan and hasn’t read the books, he has seized upon the fever by putting the property up for sale at a price of $1.4 million. Shepherd, 83, who lives across the river from Henry River Mill Village, told The Associated Press he bought the property to protect his interests. Shepherd did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNBC.
If you’re the ultimate Hunger Games fan and rich to boot, here’s your chance to own the ultimate piece of the movie. However, at a price like that, I would think you’d end up competing with Lionsgate in the bidding. It sounds like a relatively “cheap” way for a studio to secure the property for future movies and maybe even make a serious tourist attraction out of it.

definitely buying.
zomg.
i’d be living in it everyday.
now I just need to hire jennifer lawrence.
One of the Mega Millions lottery winners should buy it.
And let us all live there.
lol wow
have to say if i could i’d buy it myself
cool
I DEF. WISH !
dude i would totally do anything for the seam i would be their every single day of my life! biggest hunger games fan ever!!!!!!!!! love Jennifer and Josh with all my heart!! <3
1.4M? That’s nothing. Just a few years ago, that wouldn’t even buy you a 10,000 property home without a view on Maui.
Im honestly surprised that Lionsgate hasn’t bought it already! Considering how much of Catching Fire takes place in District 12.
This is one of those Catch-22 situations. Fans without 1.4M will think it’s an amazing deal, while anyone with 1.4M would rather invest in some real estate that’s slightly more lucrative than an abondoned town they probably could have bout for less than 100K 3 months ago.
don’t they need the location for the sequel…
ive been there!!! my mom only took me cuz we live a whole lot closer to there than the premeire, so we just hung out there for a wile until an old man who i think is the old man who the article talks about chased us off…..
Good point, but would studios even bother doing something like that? Lionsgate doesn’t really need to sit on some crappy property for the next 5 years just to use it for filming purposes. I would think they’d either just pay the new owner to use it again orm if whoever buys it gets too greedy, just shoot somewhere else. It’s not like a major studio can’t replicate a run down town.
The price may be a bit high. Most HG fans are under 30, not typically an age group with a lot of cash to spare……at least not 1.4 million. Wonder where he got that price?
cool! Lionsgate should buy it for future movies and for tourist attractions
This is the problem with us fans. We don’t respect privacy no matter what fandom we are in. We just have to go where they film. Lol.
But, still 1.4million. Not really gonna happen. No one with that type of money would invest in that.
I changed my mind, I’d buy it! Why not, right? I could build Victor’s Village on the outskirts and just hang out and watch as my property becomes overrun by rabid women. My wife will be thrilled! Haha!
All the fans should put in some money, buy it, then turn it into a theme park.
i dont live far from there, i should buy it!
If I was Jennefer Lawrence. lol
@Tori Since you’ve been there do you think it is worth 1.4 million dollars?
@Katy Sue I agree! I’ll chip in 30 dollars. Which is basically all I have.
Wow. I really want 1.4 million right now :/ how great would that be… to live in the Seam.
Won’t they need it for CF?
I would think the contract was still in place from the Hunger Games movie for both shows. Similar to where ABC has allready gotten CF along when bought the rights for HG. Anybody buying now will have to honor the contract. It would take a bunch of money to patrol,if not living on it. Plus the cost of keeping the building looking like they are,and not falling down.
@elcamino I think the reason they chose that village in the first place was because no one did ANY upkeep of the buildings. lol
OMG! That would be the best thing
Umm.. can someone lend me 1.4 million?
If I had the money…..
Personally I kind hope Lionsgate buys it. Just so that the set they used for the Seam they used in this movie is the same in the next 2 or 3 or however many they’re doing. But I’m not a filming expert so maybe they can just take another similar looking place and turn it into the Seam. I have to admit I feel bad for the guy who owns it though I can’t imagine what it would be like to constantly have random people driving up and taking photos of your property all the time…….Then again why should I when somebody is sure buy it for that much or more!
If I bought it they would be more then welcome to film Catching Fire and Mockinjgay there
Susie, they can make a studio in LA look exactly like a number of street blocks in NYC if they need to. I’m sure if the new owners of this property get too ambitious when the time comes to film CF, they’ll make due elsewhere.
Living in Vancouver 1.4 million is nothing, if the seam was here, they’d be selling each house individually for that much. Would some American fan please buy it then rent it back out to lions gate, I don’t want them moving set for catching fire over 1 million dollars.
Don’t they need D12 STILL for Catching Fire :\
What a “smart” choice ._.
