Casting Fire: Fancasting Jeremy Davies as Beetee
You asked us to do more ‘Catching Fire’ cast predictions, and we answered! Each week up until official ‘Catching Fire’ castings are announced, the staff of Mockingjay.net will be running a series called ‘Casting Fire’, taking a look at potential casting choices for other ‘Catching Fire’ characters. Today we’re kicking off our first piece on Beetee with Jeremy Davies.

I love Jeremy Davies as an actor, but I don’t like the idea of him playing Beetee. He’s too young. Maybe if he was twenty years older, I’d be totally on board, but as it stands now, I just can’t see it. He’s a great character actor, though, and I wish there was a role in the movies that he could fill. I just don’t think it’s Beetee. Plus, I think the character is too similar to his character on Lost, and that loses the appeal to me.

I apologise to any massive Jeremy Davies fans out there but he annoys me in every single thing I’ve seen him in! At first I thought it was just his cowardly character in Saving Private Ryan, until he cropped up again in Dogville and Solaris. Watch the unwatchable Million Dollar Hotel and I guarantee you’ll want to punch him in the face. It’s just his performances are never exactly subtle and I can always see the seams of his acting (if that made any sense to anyone else). I never believe him in any role, he really irritates me and I’d be gunning for Beetee to get it in the arena if he was played by Jeremy Davies! Please God no… was that too harsh? I’m sorry if I’m being too harsh!

I’ve mentioned repeatedly what a crazy LOSTie I am and I loved his Daniel Faraday, but I think Jeremy Davies looks a little too young for the part. He certainly could do it since he’s 43 years old, but he just looks younger than that and the Beetee in my head has always been around 50-60 years old. It doesn’t help that my top pick for Beetee is another cast member from LOST, who we will cover next week!

Although I think Jeremy Davies would make a great Beetee (albiet a bit younger than I imagined), I don’t think I’d be able to watch him without thinking “Yep, that’s Daniel Faraday.” While his LOST character is very different from Beetee, the fact that they’re both awkward genuises on the beach would be too great of a similarity for me.

Whether or not he’ll be considered, I pictured Jeremy Davies as Beetee when I read the series. Beetee was pretty similar to Lost’s Daniel Faraday (Oxford physicist, super smart, time travel guy). Though Jeremy showed great range on the show, he’s typecast in my mind as a true Beetee, through and through. The similarity of being a technical dude with a touch of social awkwardness on a deadly desert island pretty much seals the deal.

I’m not going to lie, I haven’t really seen any of his work to assess his acting style and how well it would fit with Beetee as a character. I don’t really feel I can judge this particular one… Going off looks alone I’d say that he’s not how I personally imagined Beetee but I know that they can totally change how a person looks to fit with the character’s image; I mean look at how different Jennifer looked with brown hair and that was only a hair colour change!

The only movie I’ve seen Jeremy Davies in is Saving Private Ryan, so he has that sort of stuttering mannerism down pat. I don’t think he really looks the part, the Beetee in my mind has a round, kinder, inquisitive face. Based on recent photos he looks a bit too hardened and ‘battle weary’ to play Beetee, I know he is a survivor of the games, but my impressions of Beetee have him absorbed in his inventions and very bookish, and though rather socially inept he is quite friendly with Katniss. Although there is the whole ‘mad scientist’ element as well, which it looks like Jeremy could do.

and of course Michael Emerson being an amazing choice!! Wish I would of thought of him!
Hes way to young to be betee but I absolutely love the idea of Alan rickman or Hugh laurie

Seems like we’ve got some pretty divided opinions on Beetee – there are some really interesting suggestions here!
Keep them coming, you never know, they could feature in one of our upcoming Casting Fires 
I think he would be a perfect Beetee. Give him glasses and comb his hair…Beetee awesomeness! (Michael Emerson would also be a good choice..he seems nerdier than Jeremy Davies)

for some reason i pictured beetee with not beedy eyes but big ones that made him look rediculous when he put on his glasses and imagined him a bit older i know hes 45 but even older sorry but he is not my perfect beetee

Oh yes!!!! I love it!!! I am pretty much for any cast member from Lost being in Catching Fire. I would love Jeremy Davies as Beetee and Michael Emerson as Plutarch. Gotta find a way to fit in Terry O’Quinn!!!!
Gotta say Michael Emerson would be a better pick for BeeTee — he can do that weirdo, brilliant nerd thing so perfectly. Davies looks way too normal. I don’t think the age is really an issue, though — a good hair colorist and make-up artist could do wonders in that dept.
Everyone sees Beetee as a middle aged thin nerdy guy. I see a mid forties, round, greying man with dorky glasses. People also picture Wiress as really pretty but I see a frizzy haired, middle aged woman with harry potter glasses. So no to him
not nerdy enough. Even if u add Beetee’s glasses. No beard. How bout Micheal Emerson as Beetee and Helena Bonham Carter as Wiress. Look them up on google. He has that nerdy look and she has that crazy look.
my first impression was, “yes!!! totally!” but now that I think of it, he needs to be older and more nerdier.
I would so like him as beetee,but think of how young he is if he one the Hunger Games like 10 or so years ago!he should be like joel grey but how an old man suppose to be running up and down a forest anyway even if the camera will just catch him sitting there…micheal emerson has the looks the spunk technically think about age refrences before you want to picture a 70 year old man running in a forest.

I LOVE him! In lost he plays the fidgety and nerdy guy. Plus that picture was taken from the Lost TV show, so he is a bit older now. He wins out, hands down! I LOVE Daniel Faraday!!!
