Lionsgate Confirms the Return of Major Cast Members of ‘The Hunger Games’
Earlier in the week, Lionsgate issued a press release confirming new director Francis Lawrence and also included confirmation of the return of major cast members from ‘The Hunger Games’ for ‘Catching Fire’.
Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth will reprise their roles as Katniss, Peeta and Gale, with Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, and Woody Harrelson also returning to their respective roles. The film will be produced by Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Production is slated to begin this Fall, and the film will be released on November 22, 2013.
Thought I should post this since I’ve seen a couple of comments in the last few days wondering about the return of the actors for the sequel. I myself had been wondering about Woody Harrelson since he just signed onto an HBO detective show. Hopefully this eases some worries out there!

Thank GOD. I was so nervous that Woody would get mad about Gary backing out and then decide he didn’t want to do it anymore. I say that based on a few comments I heard him say in past interviews where it seemed like he might be a little flighty and non-committal, and that his commitment to the series was contingent on Gary staying. Thank jeebus they are all coming back.
I like Shields but I don’t think it will make too big a deal. They could always say Prim had a growth spurt or something but I’m glad all the other supporting characters will be back.

And no one knew that theywere doing 4 movies??? Like Harry Potter, thelast book will be two movies.

If willow is smart, she will sign back on! We love you willow!
I’m not worried about Willow, she wont leave. I’d say they didn’t mention her because everyone knows it wouldn’t make any sense for her to leave, which it theoretically could for the more well-established actors.
I won’t worry about Willow Shields, I’m pretty confident she’ll return. And same with Paula Malcomson (Katniss’s mom). I’m so excited to see them in catching fire!!!

YES!!!!! I’ve been so scared ’cause if the charaters didn’t return, it would just be a bad movie! It’s just not the same if they don’t… What about Willow Shields??? Or Paula Malcomson??? They’ll come back won’t they???
great news all them returning. I’m sure Willow and Paula not of the write up was just not thought at the time to say. But to be under stood as them being a returner also.
Yes I was very worried about this too, I was wondering if anyone knows if they might bring back characters that died such as in flashbacks??

Good to hear they’ll all be back. Not like I expected anything different – everyone who stars in the Hunger Games is set for life.
About the flashbacks, I don’t see them shooting more scenes with the dead tributes but I would not be surprised if they used footage from the first movie and incorporate them I to the nightmares. I may be wrong,I hope I’m wrong, but I’m more concerned with them not leaving out important scenes than them shooting new material for the nightmares.
I can’t wait until they start filming! I’ll be checking for news updates every day when they start!!

@Mike – I agree with you, I don’t think any of the other tributes will return, they would be able to put a pretty effective nightmare together with the footage they’ve already shot. As long as they effectively establish how much the games haunt Katniss I’ll be happy (especially because that also sets up her evolving relationship with Peeta).
And don’t worry about Willow either, she has talked about her enthusiasm for the next films and which parts she’s looking forward to shooting. As horrible as it is I’d say she doesn’t get a mention in the above press release due to the star power of the others (particularly to address fan fears that those actors may have been working on other projects).
CAN PEETS PLEASE GROW TALLER? OR WEAR SHOES THAT ADJUST HIS HEIGHT? I still can’t believe that he is Peeta and Jennifer is Katniss. He looks so weak and short next to her.

Thanks for posting this! I was one of the ones wondering about the returning cast in the wake of Gary’s departure. It really eases my mind to know that they are coming back – especially Woody and Donald. I rely on MJ.net to keep me up to speed on all the film developments, and I appreciate all you do.

well, they did say the major actors..so willow may not be that major of a character thats why they didn’t mentioned her…anyway, i guess it would be ok if they get another actor for prim because im rereading CF for the nth time, and it did say there that prim has gotten more mature as she also becomes a healer like their mother, and katniss did also mention she is as tall as her now, and i just couldn’t see willow, being her cute self, matching up to the character of prim in CF
