More Finnick Rumors: Armie Hammer and Colton Haynes
On the one hand we have Lainey reporting that Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence wants Armie Hammer:
Multiple sources tell me that Armie Hammer is far and away the first choice of director Francis Lawrence. That if it were up to him and “if he could start tomorrow with his dream cast, Armie would be FInnick”. At press time, nothing is final. And besides, a lot of people think this might not be the best career move for Hammer anyway. I spoke with a few talent agents who said they’d hesitate before recommending it because it ties him up for two pictures and ‘the question is whether or not he still needs to “break out”.
And on the other hand we have blogger Brian Tuft who claims he spoke with Teen Wolf actor Colton Haynes about the role of Mr Odair:
I got to meet some of the cast of MTV’s “Teen Wolf”, including Colton Haynes. When I told him he was my pick for the role, he told me that the three who were widely reported as having the role on lock are not in the running at this point as far as he knew and that it was just a rumor. When I asked if this meant I should remain hopeful, he said yes. He has been in contact with the studio and has a meeting there next week. He kept it vague, and I understand completely. I imagine the studio wants things kept very much under wraps.
Is your brain frazzled yet? Ours too! Either way, if these reports are to be believed, we’re still a few weeks off casting District 4′s trident wielding tribute!

colton is PERFECT. he is great on teen wolf and his character on that show is not very different from finnick (but hes kind of douchier than finnick)
I really wouldn’t mind Armie. I think he’d be great. Colton, though, I think is too young and pop-ish to play Finnick.

Oh God I dearly hope Francis Lawrence knows what he’s doing, and Suzanne Collins is hopefully butting in to keep him in line. I’ve just never liked Armie Hammer as Finnick. I don’t know, he just… doesn’t seem right.
I like Colton, can we get a finding finnick post about him? Never liked Armie much.
But basically what I’m getting from this is that Francis would’ve liked Armie, but it’s not going to happen and neither are the other two favourites.

while i would looooooove it if colton haynes got the part (him and garrett hedlund are pretty much tied when it comes to my mental image of finnick), and as much as i think armie’s wouldn’t be a bad choice either, i just wish we knew for sure whether they’ve started working on casting or not. this going back and forth is stressing me out even further at a point my nerves can’t be anymore frazzled than they already are. =S gawd, someone please confirm something!

This Colton dude sounds like a tool for divulging so much information, whether he’s correct or not.
I don’t know what all the fuss is about Armie. He looks like the run of the mill Hollister pretty boy to me,attractive but nothing special. Maybe if I had seen his acting ability I would be more on board. It won’t be the end of the world if he is cast, I just don’t understand what the big deal is when it comes to him being a fan favorite.

Colton Haynes is exactly what I’m hoping they’ll steer clear of….he’s too young looking and doesn’t remotely emote the kind of hidden depth the role of Finnick requires. Just more stirring of the rumor pot.
uhhmmm, I don´t know, I thought actors were supposed to be more discreet when they are auditioning for a role, they have to keep their mouth shut for various reasons, mainly because studios demand it, so it sounds fishy to me. how reliable is this source anyway? Armie might have become too big of a name at this point, which is a shame, because he´s a good actor, and that´s the most important thing. he´s a screen actors guild nominee, that is major in my opinion. So I think that first thing about the three actors considered to be frontrunners being out of the running at this point makes sense, and Taylor Kistch has already confirmed he´s out. As for Colton Haynes, I just don´t see it, he´s good-looking, but too boyish looking, he doesn´t look like a man, and Finnick has to look like a man. I haven´t seen him act, so I won´t comment on it
Well I agree with FLawrence, Armie has always been my #1 choice for Finnick since I’m jealous of his looks, and that is how I pictured Finnick, and since I don’t see all hype about Hedlund, he’s good but not how I pictured Finnick, he looks sor of redneck in some pics(no offense), and colton, I don’t like at all he look like a pretty boy, and that’s not a good thing.

I think it’s going to be an unknown or something close to that. And I’m sure they’re auditioning every guy in Hollywood who fits the age range.
Maybe we’re all getting too picky. Just find a hot guy and be done with it. Make up and hair can do wonders.

Nothing’s official until we get an actual announcement from Lionsgate, so I’m trying really hard not to buy into any of this until then.
If ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ is scheduled to commence principal photograph in the Summer, then that means that we SHOULD (I’m estimating here) have an official announcement about hired co-stars within the next 3-4 weeks. The cast has to begin training for the film a couple of months prior to filming, so Lionsgate better make a decision and finalize all this casting business sooner rather than later if they want to get this project underway. That, and I’ll be losing my mind shortly. This anticipation will be the death of me O_O

Nah, I don’t know. Armie Hammer.. I don’t really like him and he doesn’t have the looks. Sure, he’s handsome, but not Finnick-handsome. And I’ve seen Mirror Mirror and I don’t think that he could play Finnick. I was hoping for Garrett Hedlund.

Colton looks way too young for the role and I’m not sure about his acting either. Plus he’s really short, Jen’s probably taller than him. If he really wants to get the role he should not have said anything about it, I’m sure Lionsgate won’t be thrilled when they find out he’s been talking about the casting process with a blogger. Not very professional.. Could Lionsgate please stop even considering teenagers for the role of Finnick??
It seems to me that the list of the preferred three Finnicks was just like the short list of 8-10 directors that was floated before F. Lawrence was hired. It got people talking and excited, but who really knows how much truth there was to any of it? Several of the choices floating out there are committed to fall projects already, and as beloved as the character of Finnick is, he is just a supporting player behind Katniss. Actors, of the appropriate age, who have played lead roles, will have to consider whether they are at a point in their career where the role will do something for them — even beyond the fact that the movie will be huge and make a lot of money. I felt that THG film script short changed the depth of even major characters like Peeta, Haymitch, and Rue, so I’d think that anyone with name recognition interested in playing Finnick would definitely want to see the script during the audition process. Has there been any information recently about the rewrites or where things stand with that? Have we heard whether there is a working script yet? Did Michael Arndt actually step in? Has he been working with SC? Ugh, so many questions! (I guess I don’t really have a favorite horse in this race, but I do know what I don’t like!)
@Kaleiney – that is SO TRUE about the THG script. Hutch’s brilliance notwithstanding, I’m still mad about how they emasculated Peeta and I don’t have any real faith in how they’ll handle him or other major characters going forward.

Also, you guys remember the ‘list’ we had for directors in the running and how the final 2 announced just before lionsgate officially posted that they offered to FLaw? You guys remember how those last 2 weren’t on that original list? Yeah. I’m taking all these Finnick rumors with a grain of salt until I hear something official frond lionsgate. My emotions will not be toyed with again. Well for casting anyways. Though Hudland is my top choice out if the bunch I’ve heard about in the running. Part of me still hopes for Hunter Parrish but there’s been no word of that at all.
@kaleiney– yeah, i am way more concerned about whether or not the script for this movie is finished or even being worked on by CS than i am about casting. i wish, if catching fire rumors HAVE to pop up, that they’d be about the script, at least. i’m on pins and needles here!
OH my God can someone please comment on Mitch Hewer!?! Isn’t he awesome!?! Check out pictures of him. Tell me you don’t like him, but comment pleeeeeeez!!!! There are still a lot of pictures of the young Mitch Hewer, but also a few older ones. He is awesome!!!!! Way better than Hunter Parrish. Does it really matter if it’s a ‘good’ career move? Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci are arguably more prestigious actors and they don’t play lead characters. It’s just another pay check at the end of the day.
Colton Haynes has the look of a soldier…more of a Gale over Finnick. Armie Hammer for Finnick Odair. If not Armie, then give me Garret Hedlund.
