19 is too young to be engaged in my opinion

OK, um…. congrats I guess? Not to be a downer but 1) I’m not a Miley fan and 2) I think they are WAY too young to get married. What’s the rush? Congrats to them though, maybe they can make it work *shrug*

Not true at all. I’ve known a couple people that have gotten married very young and I didn’t understand it, either. I just don’t get what the rush is about. Heck I’m mid-twenties and marriage it still far from my mind.

@Destined – Kinda hope not, for selfish reasons. A married Jen macking on a younger/single Josh in CF/MJ will blow a pretty big hole in my fourth wall. They already have enough issues with all that brother-sister chemistry.

I agree with Beth. If you can’t drink at your own wedding, then you’re too young. Though 21 STILL seems too young, IMO. I WANT to be happy for them, but I’m not a Miley fan and I think their relationship has been sort of on/off, so I give the marriage about 3-5 years, tops. But this is also coming from a world-class, unromantic Miss Independent, so….

Honestly, I’m really glad they are engaged. I think they’re really sweet together. I don’t care what it will do to Liam’s popularity or that they might be too young. If they’re happy, I’m happy.

Miley is young, but who says they were getting married right away? Lots of people are married for a couple years before getting married. I’m guessing they’re going to wait a year or two, or at least until Miley turns 21.

If they really loved eachother they could wait.. at least till Miley is 22.

I was 19 when I got married, and 6yrs and 1 child later….. We are still madly in love with each other! Even though I am not a miley fan… I wish them the best.

I’m assuming Lily meant that “lots of people are engaged for a couple years before being married”. Also, even if they start wedding planning now, considering they’re both celebrities (especially Miley) it’ll probably be the kind of star-studded event that take a while to set up. Miley’s birthday is in November, so she probably will be at least 20 when they marry. And I do know a bunch of people myself who married in their early twenties, all of them are still married.

As for Jen possibly getting married soon and how this would affect her chemistry with Josh… honestly, they both looked so different in the THG movie as “Katniss and Peeta” that their personal lives never crossed my mind. Neither did I really think of Liam as “Mr. Miley Cyrus” when I saw him playing Gale.

Now, marital status aside, I guess Jen certainly might wind up looking noticeably older than Josh as the years go on, but Peeta’s meant to be more innocent and less hardened than Katniss anyway, so I don’t think it would look that strange on-screen.

Okay, that’s perfectly fine with me. But it will NEVER be fine if Josh gets engaged unless he gets engaged to me. I’m serious. No joke, guys. Really. No joke.

I am praying that this works out. I tend to be skeptical about hollywood marriages not because the people are bad but because the media tears them apart. PRAYING everything holds together!

I like how Abby put it–If you’re not old enough to legally drink at your wedding, you’re too young. But whatever I guess. I feel as if Gale’s role has been trashed by Liam. He’s no longer Gale now–he’s “oh yeah miley cyrus’ bf/husband”. I’ve heard tons of people tell me that, and it aggravates me SO MUCH! GALE IS NOT LIAM. LIAM WAS HIRED TO BE A “HEARTTHROB” AND DESTROYED WHO GALE REALLY IS–NOT a swimsuit model, a tough guy who’s made it through the Seam.

Also, I don’t believe Katniss would have wanted to get married RIGHT after the rebellion. She would have been at LEAST 22, if not older. In fact, I really think Katniss wouldn’t have wanted to get married anyways (I find the last 1/3 of mockingjay unrealistic, but that’s a discussion for somewhere else), so yes, she would have waited. Plus, I can’t imagine her being okay with having kids before turning 35 or so. I always thought she was 40 some years old like my parents in the epilogue

I just wanted to respond to all those people that compare this to Katniss’ and Peeta’s apparent “young” marriage. First of all, we really DON’T know if they were that young when they got married. Secondly, it’s under a totally different circumstance. Peeta and Katniss had been through literal hell together and at the end of MJ they were quite literally all the other one had. They were eachother’s only hope, they were meant to be together, and after so much they went through they still wanted to be together. Miley and Liam on the other hand… they are practically kids. Yes I know Liam is… 22, I think? But c’mon you guys, let’s be for real, that’s like a year out of college and yes I consider college students to still be in a kind of childhood stage of life. Miley is only 19! Neither person has experienced life or had enough hardships to take on such a huge commitment. And don’t tell me how they are stars and more mature or that they do get experience from rumors of the press and crap… just don’t. In the end they really AREN’T life-experienced and I don’t think that at those ages you really know who you want to be with for the rest of your life.

Honestly, I HOPE I’m proved wrong because of course I don’t want to see our Liam upset in a divorce or something, but I really don’t think this was a good idea. :-/ Regardless of how happy they are now, they sure have a lot of hell coming their way and I hope they are prepared for it.

Hey, I’m not saying that all people in their late teens/early twenties are mature enough to get married and have lasting marriages. I just think that you shouldn’t dismiss the possibility just because of age, as if NO ONE under the age of 21 should get married, which comments about being too young to marry if you can’t drink legally imply. I think you can legitimately question whether Liam is mature enough, or if Miley is mature enough, but not just because of how old they are.

Anyway, my general approach to this kind of news is to wish the happy couple well, not make cynical comments about “starter marriages” and whatnot (though MJ.net so far has been MUCH nicer to Liam and Miley than most other fansites where this was reported). That’s like telling your kid after he’s reaped for the Hunger Games that you think the OTHER kid from the district has a better chance to win; might be true statistically, but that’s still needlessly cruel.
