Casting Fire: Mags Fancasting Face-off

OMGSH MAGGIE SMITH WOULD BE…not right for the part BUT I WOULD SERIOUSLY BE SO EXCITED ahaha

Heheh NatiMellark – there are a few there that are just incredibly amazing actresses but either probably not quite right/too famous! But, that’s all in the fun of a fan cast

I think Maggie Smith is taking a break for a while. At least from physically demanding movies. Vanessa Redgrave would be a good choice.

I’m going with Maggie smith. I think she is more well known and would ove to see her playing a part like this!

Uhm, no to Betty White! Even though I adore Betty White, she’s more into comedy than something serious like this..

Betty White could actually pull this off, I think. Mags has to be a strong, determined woman, but slightly batty. Um, hello, I just described Betty White!!! Their personalities are similar and I honestly think that Betty is the best out of the list for the role although I wouldn’t mind seeing Cicely Tyson in the role either. I think if she didn’t look so dang young (its a blessing and a curse) she wowuld be great for this role as well.

The challenge is finding an older actress who can withstand the physical demands. Some of the actors expressed how hot and uncomfortable it was shooting in the forest. Imagine how it’s gonna be on the beach and jungle in leather jumpsuits, swimming through the waters, and jumping around on sand.

With that said, Cicely Tyson’s acting is incredible. I don’t remember Mags’s race ever being stated (even if I pictured her as white), so anything goes. Acting ability will far outweight mental images.

Maggie Smith is a great actress . She could definitly pull mags off. Betty White would not be bad though.

Ellen Albertini looks right to me appearance-wise.

I went solely based off the imdb profile pics,so I would go with Lois Smith, she looks the most like I imagined Mags. But seriously guys!?!?!? Betty White? People are just voting for her because they recognize the name. She’s too well known, I wouldn’t see Finnick’s mentor I’d see Betty White!! Plus, she is in comedies. I would notice her even more because it wouldn’t be natural, her in a serious role would completely stand out.

I don’t think that Betty White would be able to handle the physical challenges of the roll. She is too comedic, and she would not be able to really bring the heroic character that is Mags. I think Vanessa Redgrave would defiantly be able to pull this off.

I think that betty white would be horrible for the role. Shes too famous and her acting career is mostly, if not all, made up of comedy.

As much as I love betty white, she is not right for Mags! I personally think that Rosemary Harris (aunt May from Spiderman) would be great as Mags!

I could totally see Lois Smith as Mags though!!

I think this is where they are going to go with casting a total unknown. These amazing women are all way too healthy and hearty to be Mags. Mags has to be a little tiny lady, probably with osteoporosis, who looks sort of like a molting bird. She ideally should be small enough so that Katniss (or her body double) can carry her — so maybe 70-80 lbs and max, 4 ft 5 inches, if that.

On second thought, Ellen Albertini really could do Mags and she has my vote!

guys i think you’re forgetting that finnick and katniss have to carry her. I can’t imagine any character who’s gonna play finnick or jennifer carrying maggie smith. im kinda for linda hunt playing mags. shes’s tiny and only 4’9. If lionsgate just changes her apearance a little bit i think she’ll make a great mags

Just wanted to add – Ellen Albertini is going to be 95 years old in 2013 (she was born in 1918). I just don’t think physically she could handle that. I like the idea of Sissy Spacek. But I think she would also make an excellent Wiress.

I picture Mags as someone very tiny (so that Finnick and Katniss can carry her around). Sadly, my ideal candidate passed away last year: Frances Bay.

Of the choices here, I definitely think Ellen Albertini is the closest to my image in terms of size.

I vote Unknown. They’ll hire a stage actress and a bit part actress. No point paying through the teeth for a big name when she’ll barely be in it.

None of these look exactly like “my” Mags. Mags wasn’t given much description when it came to the coloring (of skin, hair, eyes). I always pictured Mags to have really dark tan skin that’s extremely wrinkly, peppery gray hair that goes in wisps to her shoulders, and tiny dark almond eyes. Anyone else?

I don’t know why but i definitely pictured mags as black… I am actually re reading the second book so a lot of the things i pictured are changing but i don’t know.. I pictured her to be black. And a bit more aged. Most definitely NO to Betty white. I can’t take that lady seriously. She is phenomenal at what she does but i feel like this role wouldn’t be for her.

I don’t understand why Betty White has the most votes. I LOVE her but she is not Mags. Mags needs to be thin and frail looking. There’s too much life in Betty White.
I would be always expecting her to say something funny.
