Rumor: Jena Malone Also In the Running for Johanna

Agreed Destined – I really hope we don’t have much longer to go with all of this. And thank goodness there aren’t so many roles for us to ‘stress’ over for Mockingjay!

Is she the one who played Lydia in “Pride and Prejudice” (with Keira Knightley + Donald Sutherland)?

Ummmmm…. She’s not my first choice for Johanna. Is it just me or does she look a little bit like Isabelle Furhman, who plays Clove??

OMGSH I hope she gets the part…my brother made a comment about her being good for the part and ever since then I thought he would be PERFECT!

This is official. She posted on her Instagram a picture of Catching Fire with the tag “Wish me luck. I may be the next victor in the hunger games…gonna need some heavy tribute action on this one.”

i LOVE jena malone. she’s had some great roles in the past– i thought she was great in saved and the united states of leland, totally bought her bitchy side in hatfields & mccoys, and she pulled a pretty good badass-yet-broken girl in sucker punch. she doesn’t really look like i imagined johanna in my head, but i think she could pull off the role. i would not be upset if this rumor turned out to be true.

in the meantime, i’m just crossing all fingers i am able to cross that we get some ACTUAL news this week. i’m so tired of the rumors. i mean, it’s almost july! surely we should be getting something official soon.

Jena Malone is a solid, solid actress. She’s a show biz veteran and has a string of interesting projects to her name. I’m sure that if she gets offered and accepts the role of Johanna that she’ll have no problem pulling it off.

I don’t think we’ve got that much longer to wait before we get official casting announcements.

Jennifer’s casting was announced in mid March and Liam and Josh’s in early April. Production started a little under two months from Jennifer’s casting in May 2011.

Speculation says Catching Fire will begin production sometime in September so if we go off the same timeline then mid to late July should see some official announcements. Hopefully.

Not sure who she is, but she looks right for the part! Let’s hope she has acting skills!!

What about Naya? Am I the only one who wants HER to be Johanna?

I always thought Jena would be perfect. She has shown she can do action quite well with Sucker Punch , but she has also shown she can play the Johanna type character. She was in a movie with Zooey Deschanel a few years ago called The Go-Getter and her character reminded me a lot of Johanna.

Oh interesting … I haven’t seen Jenna Malone in anything in a while. I remember her from Donnie Darko (a cult classic) and a cute movie called “Saved!”. I don’t hate this idea … I think she could pull it off.

I really liked her in Donnie Darko. But didn’t care to much for suckerpunch. She looks like she could be Johanna in my mind. Nevertheless rumors are rumors. But if the this one is true then I will be happy.

I finally got a few spare minutes at work to go and check out IMDB, as her name didn’t ring a bell immediately when I originally posted it, and was pleasantly surprised to find she played Gretchen in Donnie Darko as a few of you have now mentioned I absolutely loved that film, and thought everyone did a great job. Unfortunately I haven’t seen any of Jena’s recent works so I don’t really have an opinion there.

It’s funny how much a picture can change things too, in the photo on the left with long hair I can’t really see it, but in the photo on the right when she’s sporting short hair I can see Johanna. At least we know she wouldn’t be frightened to shave her hair

I think with some work she could be a great Johanna, but she just doesn’t feel the way I imagined Johanna to be. Of course it would be too early to tell how well she could do, if she gets the part she may surprise me with a great performance.

Oh there better be OFFICIAL announcements very, very soon. Please just enough with these rumors… Whoever they cast will be cast for a reason.

i feel like Jena Malone can come off a little young.. but i trust that if she’s cast, they will style her in a way to minimize that.

her voice, however.. not sure how much of an edge she can put on her sweet little voice. especially when i think about it in comparison to Jennifer Lawrence’s voice. xD

Jena Malone is brilliant! She can do mean so well but she’s also vulnerable and she’s got an amazing presence. She could totally give Jen a run for her money!
This gives me confidence, the casting directors clearly knnow what they are doing. If they’re smart enough to cast Malone then Finnick will not be some pretty boy with no acting skills and who has only done tv-series for teenagers prior to this.

Honestly this is quite infuriating ! I wish they would be sure about who they would choose because fans get there hopes up and then they are dashed!

Also shouldn’t they get a move on this movie , I mean it opens next year !

Jena has the right attitude, can easily play weak/vulnerable but still be able to win the games. She is perfect for the part!
If she was cast I may actually cry… and watch Sucker Punch another million times… :'D

No thank you… Johanna needs to be exotic/hot/sexy… Jena isn’t ugly, but she is not a good choice. I would be very upset if she got the part.

I’m leaving this all up to the casting gods at lionsgate. I get irritated when people knock casting decisions before they’re even a) verified/confirmed or b) seen how it plays out on the big screen. People were SOOOO “OMG, WTH, Jennifer Lawrence can’t be Katniss! She isn’t Katniss! She’s blond!! NOOOOO” – and look how that turned out, all that panicking for nothing. I couldn’t imagine anyone else playing Katniss. Thus, I trust the casting execs to make the right decision.

I loved her in Sucker Punch and her character in that was definitely Johanna-esque! I’d also like her costar in Sucker Punch Abbie Cornish to be in the running for this part too…

i will be happy with Jena Malone if she is cast (despite the voice thing which i will have to get over), but for the record my choice in fancasting was Kate Mara. she can very easily be menacing and thus someone to be suspicious of, but once she becomes trustworthy i can see her as Katniss’ ally.

I’ve never really liked Jena – something about her has always rubbed me the wrong way. But while I never would have thought of her for the role, I concede that she would probably make a good Johanna. One of my biggest concerns was that they would cast someone too young, but she is at least several years older than JL and that pleases me.

wow. i have no idea on how well she can act but look-wise she looks exactly like how i pictured Johanna. And she looks good with buzzed hair which is a plus for the role!
