Whilst sorting through boxes of books for the Friends of the C.H. Booth Library annual book sale, a worker stumbled across a very rare find indeed. A first edition of The Hunger Games, signed with an inscription by author Suzanne Collins!!

May the odds be EVER in your favor! Love, Suzanne Collins

As News Times reports:

“Everything that comes in for the sale is dropped off in boxes,” said Toni Earnshaw, a library Board of Trustees member. “Our sorters are trained to look for first editions, and one of our sorters spotted this one.”

Earnshaw said finding the “Hunger Games” first edition was exciting enough, but what happened next was icing on the cake.

The exact facts are being kept a mystery, but somehow, someone contacted Collins, who not only signed the book — she added the inscription, “May the odds be EVER in your favor. Love Suzanne Collins.”

“It’s such an interesting experience working on the sale,” said Denise Kaiser, book sale manager, “but we don’t that often have contemporary books of extraordinary value.”

This gem is on sale for $2,500 at Reed Intermediate School, 3 Trades Lane, Newtown CT. July 14th to 18th. This copy of The Hunger Games will be in the Rare and Collectible section of the sale.

    My friend got me a personalized and signed book from Suzanne Collins for my graduation. Crazy that it would go for that much!

    How, how could someone just give this away? I bet someone comes back from a semester at college and says “Hey Mom, have you seen my Hunger Games book?” and Mom says “Oh, that old thing? I think I donated that a couple weeks ago…”

    @Erin probably
    I have my Catching Fire signed by Willow Shields (I know kinda stupid that I had here sign it because she isn’t even the one that wrote it but I had nothing else for her to sign.)

    @Erin haha that would be awful. I would cry. Although if I owned this book, I’d probably never let it out of my sight… ;)

    The thing that makes this book extra special is not that it is signed, but because it is a first editioned! I would KILL to be able to read it! (not really, but I couldn’t think of a better verb to use)

    Oh my word! I have a Hunger Games book and I bought it off of amazon almost a year ago. I was looking through it this past May and I noticed that a page that had the words “The Hunger Games” on it was signed by Suzanne Collins and it had the same doodle the picture in this post has. So now it has me thinking and wondering if my book could be potentially valuable.

    Huh. I didn’t even consider the fact that first editions of The Hunger Games would be valuable. Mine’s not signed, but it -is- a first edition copy. 0_o

    @nieke ikr!

  15.

    @Briana It depends on how many copies there were in the first print run, but in general first edition, first printings of any book are worth holding on to.

    Jewel of Panem, the reason is, your is not a first edition, it was personalized which is less valuable.
    P.S. SOMEONE LEND ME 2500 TO BUY IT!!!
