Casting Fire: Fancasting James Remar as Beetee
We’ve only got a couple more Casting Fire pieces to go and I have to admit it’d be nice to cut it short so that we could actually have a real Beetee already! This week, we’re looking at long-time actor James Remar, who many of you may know from Showtime’s hit tv show Dexter.

Being a long-time Dexter fan, I have to say that I think James Remar is pretty amazing and I think he’d make a great Beetee because of his deep, soothing voice and his acting talent. That being said, he’s a pretty big man. IMDB lists him as being 5’10″ and I’ve always pictured Beetee as a small guy. So while he has some Beetee in him, I don’t think he’s the right one.

Looking at James Remar’s IMDB profile, the man has a really long resume. He’s been in a ton of tv shows and voiced lots of cartoon characters. But, if I’ve seen him in anything (which I apparently have by looking at his list) I definitely don’t remember him. But he’s consistantly been getting parts since 1978, so he must have some skill, and a great voice. He’s a good-looking older gentleman, though, so I could see him as more of a Plutarch than as a Beetee.

I will forever associate James with his role as Richard Wright in ‘Sex and the City’, so there’s just no way I could ever see him as Beetee. He is way too suave and charming (Beetee wasn’t known for his social skills), and with looks that make him more suitable for Plutarch as Erin has said. That said he is a very good actor and I’m sure he could play Beetee no worries, and he does have a great voice, but he’s just not quite the right fit.
Long tyime no wee… I haven’t been on here for a while, but I could see him playing Beette, but something about doesn’t give me the “Beetee” feeling, but I finished rereading “Catching Fire” yesterday so it’s fresh in my mind. Maybe…..

I agree with Tash, Remar will always be that Sex in the City guy, so that’s a no from me.
he’s a great actor, and he could definetly play the part. but he just doesnt look like beetee!
NGL, to me he’s always looked like a cross between shotgun-toting dad and sleazy politician (that last one might have something to do with the fact that the only role of his i actually remember is hugo posh from the girl next door). not sure if i see any beetee in that mix. and like crystal mentioned, he does seem to have a more physical presence than i expected from beetee. but he does have a ridiculously extensive resume and seems to have played a wide range of characters, so it could work. don’t think i would’ve pointed him out as beetee if it were up to me, but who knows.
I agree with Tash: he will always be Richard Wright. I thought that while watching Dexter and will think that any time I see him.
Honestly, I simply imagined Beetee looking older…
To me, he will always be Jonah Prowse from Jericho, which in my opinion is the greatest post-apocalyptic story aside from THG

I dont think I could Really see him Playing betee.. I dont know why but there is something about about him that makes him not right for the part

@Crystal, lol yes, he wasn’t a main character, but it was revealed that he’d had a lot of influence in Jake’s past, and he was Emily’s dad too
I’ve always imagined Beetee as short, bald, slightly overweight, and wearing glasses. So definite no for me.
He seems more like the authoritarian type character and not so much the crafty type like Beetee. It can still be done, though, since he’s a seasoned actor.
