OFFICIAL: Philip Seymour Hoffman Cast as Plutarch Heavensbee
It’s now OFFICIAL! Lionsgate announced via press release this morning that Phillip Seymour Hoffman will be playing Plutarch Heavensbee in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’.
Santa Monica, CA, July 9, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES:CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Philip Seymour Hoffman has been cast in the role of Plutarch Heavensbee, Head Gamemaker for The Hunger Games, in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire.
The actor and filmmaker just wrapped a Broadway run as Willy Loman in the revival of “Death of a Salesman” for which he was nominated for a Tony Award. He will next be seen in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master” and the indie film “A Late Quartet” alongside Catherine Keener and Christopher Walken. More recent films include “Moneyball,” “The Ides of March” and “Jack Goes Boating” which marked Hoffman’s feature directorial debut.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

The bottom woman I bet is Annie or Coin, but probably not Madge since she wasn’t the one that gave Katniss the Mockingjay pin in the movie.
But wow!! Loving the casting page too. Can’t wait to see it all filled in by September!
I’m getting really excited! But something I noticed was that all the comments on the casting page was that people are now just getting info like Rob Pattinson playing Finnick, and that time we had 3 people down to play finnick, which i thought was weird since well all knew about it like months ago! I thank these fan pages!

BTW did anyone notice the synopsis at the bottom of the release; they didn’t mention that Katniss and Peeta have to go back into the games. I’m really glad they’re keeping that part quiet and hope they continue to, in the trailers etc. I hate when films give away major twists and sometimes even detail the whole plot.

@abigail: I think Annie Cresta won’t be cast until Mockingjay. She may be important to Finnick, but – forgive me, all Finnick/Annie fans out there – she’s not that important to Katniss and her story. She has like three or four scenes with four lines in Mockingjay? And in Catching Fire, she is seen only once. I think there are more important characters than her, like Greasy Sae (more important to Katniss and THG is Katniss’ story in my eyes).
I actually screamed “YAYYYYYYYYYY!” when I saw this… don’t judge me.
Anyways, I’m soooooo excited for him to being playing Plutarch! He will be amazing. I hope within the next week we will be getting more casting announcements!
Dammit! If they had cast him earlier, we would’ve seen him fall into the punch bowl. We need that recognition!!!
