Check out this amazingly complex and gorgeous poster of ‘The Hunger Games’ in Japan. It’s a mashup of several posters we’ve already seen, but it’s one I’d have totally loved to see here in the USA.

Pff, I thought Caesar was President Obama… xD
that poster is awesome! though i would’ve put cato up there instead of gale (because gale wasn’t in the games).
i hadn’t thought about how the japanese would handle the title, but i’m glad to see they went with the katakana instead of using a direct translation. i still cringe every time i see/hear the title in spanish– it’s just so odd to me to think of it with anything but “the hunger games.”
i can’t read kanji, but i guess the tagline up top is something along the lines of “24 go in but only one comes out”? that’s pretty cool.
@Kurt: OMG, it does! Kinda weird…
Too bad it’s not in English, awesome poster
I’m interested to see what the overall reaction to the movie will be like in Japan when it opens in September since many people have compared the story to Battle Royale. Hopefully they’ll see it as an original approach to a relatively fundamental plotline (honestly, it’s not THAT difficult to come up with a ‘kids fighting each other for survival’ concept, i bet people didn’t criticize the author of Battle Royale for the story being similar to Lord of the Flies’) and see the movie for what it is in and of itself.
And the trailer on the official Japanese site for the movie is worth looking at too (hungergames.jp), it features a lot of clips from the movie that wasn’t in the other trailers.
@silon Well I can’t speak for all of Japan, but I know atleast some freinds I talk to from there love the books(and are pouting they get to see it so long after me XD) and a few of them have said the similiarity is what got them to look into it to begin with. So hopefully it’ll do great.
Personal opnion of poster: Looks epic.
Sorry I didn’t notice the Japanese promo stuff earlier, since I can read it fairly well (though not perfectly by any means).
The yellow text at the top reads, “Chance of Survival, 1/24. In the ultimate survival game, is fighting the only way to come out alive?”
The white text in the middle states “Number One film in the US for 4 weeks in a row! Number One film on opening in 71 countries!”
Per the poster, the Japanese version of the movie will premier on September 28. That’s a 6 month delay, which seems pretty late, even for Japan, especally considering it was shown in China first. Maybe Lionsgate had trouble finding a Japanese distributor because of the whole BR controversy? That’s just wild speculation on my part, though!
