Rumor: Gossip Cop Claims Sam Claflin is Finnick

I LOVE HIM FOR THE ROLE

This is torture I’m seeing it everrywhere but I’m trying not to get too excited in case it isn’t true but seriously PLEASE LET IT BE TRUE I love him for finnick and think he would be great plus I want to see how everyone reacts and changes there opinion after the movie haha lol

Why do all the comments say he’s not hot cause he is it’s just that’s a bad picture and he’s WAY hotter than rob pattinson who everyone used to be obsessed with (not me though I sooo didn’t get that whole he’s a blood sucking vampire and he’s all pale and hot thing)

He is how I pictured Finnick!! Besides, if we look for a tan, greek God, he would be an awful actor. You need to step around the looks, although crucial for the role of Finnick Odair, and look into the acting. I think he is very good looking, and has the acting to pursue this role. Of course, only time will tell.

I’m actually really happy about this and hope it’s true! Loved him in Pirates 4, even though the movie wasn’t that great IMO. I have no doubt that he could really play the part well. He’s got kind of a quirky charm about him that I think’s perfect for Finnick.

Well, Josh wasn’t either, but they worked miracles on him. Peeta in the training uniform, is all I’m saying. I think Sam will shine up quite nicely for the role.

I’ve only seen Sam Claflin in PotC, and don’t really know much about him, but I like that! Personally, I think he is extremely attractive — his dimply smile is beautiful. It won’t take much lightening to bring his hair to bronze. What’s more, I think he looks more mature than many of the other candidates. I, too, am glad he is not cookie cutter, Ken doll hawt, a stereotypical surfer boy, or a bigger name that would overshadow the role.  He will look taller and larger than Katniss (sans heels), Peeta, and (rumored) Johanna, without the need for difficult shot framing. They will make him look the part. There are so many factors that contribute to casting, and considering in this case, we are looking at the filming of 3 films in the course of a year and a half, scheduling is a big deal. It’s a very valid point that the role is a supporting one, also. Supposedly, SC is working on another film late summer, early fall. I’ve seen this cited as a reason he would not be able to be Finnick, but the majority of his scenes are in the Quell.  It’s been “rumored” that the Hawaii shoots will happen Nov/Dec, with Victors Village and Victory Tour first, so doable.  

Ultimately, I assume, as with the hirings for the first movie, looks were a secondary consideration to what they felt he could bring soul-wise to the role. If this rumor is true, I’m pretty pleased and hope fans will face it with an open mind, eventually.

Well i don’t know cause i thought finick was some one who was little built but you know not over the top. Also i think that seeing him with brown hair is throughing me off. i need to see how he would look with blonde hair. lets hope not but we will see who knows they are always surprising us

He’s not how I pictured Finnick to look, but from what I’ve seen from his acting he has the skills.

People that´s all what are you looking for in Finnick´s role player? Hot? He would win this role for beign a very good actor, no for have some muscles. And I think he is cute. So stop being superficials and let´s wait to the come out of the movie to see him in action. Remember: the looking can lie. Stop being so negative. Please! Give him an opportunitie! I´ll swear that if he has the role, and if he go to the gym, yo´ll love him in the movie!

NONONONO! Realistically, there is no one alive hot enough to play Finnick, but I could only see Sam playing the soft side of Mr. Odair, not that sugar cubes side.

Ok, to me Sam is not drop-dead gorgeous but I DO think he’s a good-looking guy and he was really good in White Heat. In that he portrayed a cocky player (sound like the public image of a certain HG character?) and his confidence made him very attractive. I pictured someone like Armie Hammer in the role but on the back of WH I have confidence that he can pull Finnick’s sexiness off (@Phoebe yes, even the sugar cubes scene lol).

For those that have been saying he’s too old, he’s 26! Finnick is meant to be 24! Anyone younger just wouldn’t look right next to Jennifer and Liam (not Josh so much haha).

Personally I think Sam has just the right level of experience and fame for the role. He knows how to handle himself in a big film but he’s not so well-known that this part will be overshadowed by his previous work (as it would be with someone like Rob Pattinson or Zac Efron)…exactly the same position JL, JH and LH were in before THG! Good luck to him or whoever else is cast…

Well, he don’t look like finnick in the books, but he will probably go through a BIG makeover! We have see what they do with Katniss, Caesar and Haymitch. They can do the impossible!

I don’t see him as extremely good-looking in these pictures of “just raw him”, but in PotC, he looked pretty good.
(That’s a really bad thing to say about someone- that he only looks good when in character. I feel bad. haha)

OMG @Crystal Yasss! That is exactly how I feel. Peoples’ reaction to Sam not looking the part is HIGHLY justified b/c of the character the AUTHOR made in the books. If its not good enough, its not good enough. Simple as that. I love the passion and commitment fans are demonstrating to keep their beloved story consistent. I’m still holding out hope for better…….

OMG IS IT JUST ME BUT If sam claflin is finnick, and astrid ends up being Anna, they will be acting a romance just like Pirates of Carribbean!!!! AGAIN! they’re destined to be anyhow, pretty happy he go cast, pretty sure he can fill the role.

@Destined – even granting what you and Crystal say about the importance of Finnick’s appearance to the storyline, how in the world could they possibly find a Finnick that would satisfy everyone’s expectations? I just can’t imagine what that guy would look like, given everyone’s different mental interpretations of his appearance.

Woah!! Seriously guys?! Would you rather choose an actor who’s as beautiful as Finnick was described to be but cannot act at all or an actor who is NOT as pretty but can definitely act???….just sayin’ )

Some of you people are so degrading, looks aren’t everything, yes Finnick was very characterized that way in the novel, but he also is very complex, I would prefer someone who can act the complexity than a pretty face( which I could care less about since I’m a guy, so I may be subjective), Sam Clafib is much better than the alternative, a pretty face that can’t act, IE-Pettyfer or Gustin, and I trust on Nina Jacobson more than Lawrence so I’m confidant this or whoever is chosen will be the right choice, and though ts not talked about I’m currently watching Kings, and I feel it has pretty good camera work, and an pretty good cast, while the main character is not extraordinary, Ian Mcshane and Sebastian Stan always impress. Seriously people Stan is one of the best new actors of the decade, he is Bucky Barnes, and he is one of the best new ensemble casts in Political Animals, sorry got off track, Lawrence put together a great cast in Kings. I feel Clafin will be a good choice.

I had never heard of GossipCop until a few days ago, when someone I know from an entirely different fandom mentioned that it is her choice as the most reliable of gossip sites. She follows celebrity gossip pretty closely, so I would not be at all surprised to see this confirmed soon.

I don’t know much about Sam, but I was not particularly attached to any other choice for the role, so I’m zen as long as he can act. I like Finnick as a character, but never realized how devoted people are about him until I got online. I realized at that point that I don’t have a very specific picture of him in my mind, although I think that this picture of Matt Czuchry comes close (if he had turquoise eyes, that is):

I agree with SPM that expectations have been ramped up so high for Finnick that there’s no way to meet all of them. (Of course, I kind of thought the same for Peeta and it seems like things turned out fairly well there, so I will just wait and see.)

@spm, for me its more than looks and trying to please everyone. I know that’s not possible, but it is possible to be close and win the majority. CF is my fav book and with the addition of Finnick and Johanna as key and intricate characters, I want the best possible. When I see Sam and Jena, my thought is “are they really the best”? Is this all they could get”? Unlike the majority who were losing it when Jen and Josh were cast, I wasn’t one. I knew of both and what they could do as leads in a movie. I wasn’t worried a bit. But these two leave a lot to be desired. They both appear very bland and non appealing for these roles. They’re acting maybe ok, but I like the whole package and yes even for supporting roles b/c everyone adds to a movie to make it special. Sam is very mediocre looking with no it appeal on screen. Now, I’ve been a huge advocate for Garrett b/c I know what he can bring. Not only does he fit the description, but he possess all the range needed to carry Finnick. He can give you suave and charming, while being complex and vulnerable. And even if not Garrett, I just wonder who else besides the potential candidates discussed could of had the chance to win this role. That’s where I’m coming from. I’m a fan, really and truly and I just want to blown away by all these movies because they have so much substance in story and character. If they are officially cast I will def still support and anticipate the movie, but I will expect them both to greatly transform and I want to be immensely satisfied.

sorry, everyone, but crystal wins the thread.

(though personally i think sam is both gorgeous AND can act, that’s just my personal opinion, and i do believe it needed to be said that the two aspects are not mutually exclusive. so many people are treating them like they are, but i’m sure regardless of who gets cast as finnick– sam claflin or not– we can be certain the casting team were most certainly looking for someone who covers both aspects).

I’m not saying Clafin is the best actor, but he is no better or worse than Garret Hedlund( I personally was not a fan of him in Tron, I thought Jeff Bridges stole the film), who you guys seem to live so much. But you guys need to stop being so superficial or you will criticize whoever is chosen unless it is Hedlund, which it most likely won’t be.

I guess I find all the emphasis on appearance interesting, particularly from supporters of Garrett because…I don’t find Garrett all that attractive. At least not in the main picture up for him on Imdb. I did a Google search just now and see some other pictures without facial hair that are considerably better, but I still don’t see him as some Adonis. Now, I wouldn’t want a pretty boy in the role either – I prefer a face with some character – but I find all the “Ew, Sam is gross and Garrett is da bomb” discussion amusing. At this point, I think the problem may be that Collins’ writing made Finnick into someone that was supposed to be universally attractive…which is kind of impossible. She could use hyperbole in her writing to make a point, and everyone can use their imagination to fill in the gaps, but it sure makes casting a pain. So much of attraction is personal taste – there are years I can get behind People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” choice and years I cringe thinking “Really? Him?”

Honestly, TPTB have to have a long list of physically attractive guys to choose from, so the emphasis needs to be on acting and personality. When I think of Finnick, the first thing I think of isn’t his looks but is his swagger…and the deep pain underneath. They may choose the person that’s only the 7th hottest on their list of actors (and yes, I recognize how subjective such a ranking would be), but if he nails everything else, that’s what matters. And I will concede that Sam, Garrett, or someone else entirely could be the one to do this. I have not seen either of them in action, and I am keeping an open mind.

He wasn’t someone I predicted but I reckon he has the acting capabilities to pull off Finnick and I’m sure he will look the part by the time filming begins. I mean, jennifer lawrence didn’t look like katniss and she just fit the part perfectly in the film. The casting directors have done such a great job so far so I doubt they will choose someone for such a major role lightly. If he does get it, I believe he is right for it. I have faith in the casting directors and so should everyone: not one blunder yet!

You guys are going off red carpet pictures. They can totally make him look like finnick. And a good thing is that he actually looks older than Jenn and Josh. unlike Alex or your beloved garret. get a grip on reality that they aren’t gunna choose Obvious “heart throbs”

@Crystal – neither. I’m saying it because the combination of his looks and his acting make me think he could be very effective as Finnick. Sam intrigued me from the first, even as I hoped for Garrett in the role.

Honestly? I think Sam would be okay as Finn, but… hm… Colton Haynes is awesome–looks like Finnick and everything. I didn’t know of him until I heard he tried out for the roll. Garrett? I love him. He’s gorgeous, and a great actor. I would be fine with Colton, or Garrett. I think Sam would be alright, but… He looks like Jenn and Josh’s age… Colton does too. This is why I love Garrett; not because of looks or acting ability (Which are two huge factors) but because of his age. #KTHXBYE

No because he looks to be around 30. And if they die his hair and make him have those famous “Sea Green Eyes” do you really think he’ll look good? No offence to anyone but Finnick is suppose to be hot and Sam’s not hot. Well I know an actor (well I don’t know him personly but you know what I mean) that has bronze hair, is closer to the age and is really hot… HUNTER PARRISH!!! It is so creepy how much he looks like Finnick plus he can act really good. Anyway Sam is so not the Finnick for me because I want Astrid Berges Frisbey to play Annie and it would not be right if they played in the same movie together.( Pirates Of The Caribbean) And Sam does not look like the Finnick I pictured I can not stress that enough!!
