Rumor: ‘The Hunger Games’ Catching Fire to Film on Oahu
According to Tim Ryan’s film blog, after consideration was given to Kauai, Maui, Big Island, and Oahu, the location chosen for filming for ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ is Oahu. Although this isn’t confirmed by Lionsgate, I’ve found the site pretty reliable in the past. And since I’m literally sitting on the island of Oahu as I write this, I’m incredibly excited.
After scouting Kauai, Maui, Hawaii island and Oahu, executives for Hunger Games: Catching Fire selected Oahu as a location for four to five weeks of filming beginning as early as November and including preproduction will wrap in Hawaii just before the December Christmas break.
Four to five weeks makes a lot more sense than the previous three weeks that was being reported elsewhere, as it didn’t seem like much Arena could be shot in just three weeks. As for the photo above, that’s Lanikai Beach located in Kailua and is one of the prettiest beaches on this island!

is there a significant difference between oahu and the other islands that were supposedly considered before, crystal? i mean in terms of more jungle area, more adequate beaches or just general relatively isolated places where they can film? i guess i’d just love some insight on what they’re going for and what this particular island has that the others don’t.
meanwhile, a november filming date could fit with sam claflin’s schedule, if he does get cast as finnick. not sure how they would work in his capitol scenes, though (which as far as we know, are going to be filmed somewhere else).
@carla My best guess is that it didn’t come down to jungle area or beaches, since pretty much all the islands have great beaches and jungles, but Oahu is where Honolulu is and we have a thriving film industry here, a big base of local production crew members, actor trailers already on-island, film studios, etc. It was probably just more convenient to be close to the hub of the islands.
They filmed LOST on Oahu!!! Tooooooooo excited! Hopefully I can spot some locations where LOST was set in!

That beach just looks drop dead gorgeous too, @Bree, I think maybe it being too pretty for an arena is a good thing – it’s all an illusion. Just like Haymitch’s quarter quell where everything looks so wonderful and inviting but is actually deadly. Could be the same angle with the beach.
The article also mentions Los Angeles as a filming location… ?

Ok… I have a question for the mockingjay staff. Would it be possible to make a page where when you went to it, it would show you the official cast of catching fire so far?(That would really help me keep up with the official casting and I wouldn’t get confused on rumors.) Or would it help the contestants of the catching fire cast predictions contest too much?

So far the only official castings have been Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch, Amanda Plummer as Wiress and Jena Malone as Johanna. Treat everything else as a rumour at this stage until it is confirmed.
The casting predictions contest will end once all roles have been cast – although once an actor has been cast you can no longer earn points. So all of you who joined after Plutarch had been announced and put down PSH, you won’t get points, but nice try
I don’t know much about this island but judging by that picture looks like a perfect location for the QQ arena.
I’m going on Vacation there coming up and it is amazing cuz I’ve been there before it also has a volcanos there called Diamomd Head and my hotel was right beside it!
