Josh Hutcherson Interview with Ryan Seacrest
Josh Hutcherson called into On Air with Ryan Seacrest this morning to talk a bit about the celebrity basketball game for Straight But Not Narrow tomorrow at LA Live and mentioned that he’ll be going to Atlanta in just a couple of weeks to start filming Catching Fire. Josh’s comment conflicts with prior reports that filming would begin the first week of September, but it’s possible he’s going down there to start things that other actors aren’t necessarily needed for yet. Guess that explains the blonde locks!
“I’ve been training for about the last month or so now and I head out in about two weeks to go down to Atlanta to start shooting. It’s not quite intense as the first round that I did last year, but it’s just basically getting in good shape. We’re pretty much wearing these body suits the entire time, so one would like be in good shape to wear a spandex neoprene body suit for an entire movie.”
And hey, let’s hope he’s mistaken about no extended cave scene!

two weeks! woo! it’s starting earlier than i thought. i was completely expecting them not to start filming until september. oh, this makes me feel so much better about the schedule. i guess they’ll start with the district scenes and maybe the capitol scenes before moving to hawaii in the fall.
about the spandex jumpsuit/bodysuit thing… oh man, i can already imagine him and jennifer running around the set, pretending to be super heroes. jen HAS said all the training and physical demands of the role made her feel like hugh jackman…
Yea the bodysuits are what they wear in the arena in the book there like blue I think with a purple belt
Hmmm filming in two weeks. Well then I guess we can expect more than just one actor casted each week.

It says that they are “fitted blue jumpsuits”, so what he’s describing is accurate to the book which makes me excited!

Okay, I love how self-deprecating Josh is here! He also talks about NOT being in a relationship, and not planning on doing so because he’ll be busy filming for 4 months.
As for his spandex bodysuit comment, I think he might have been exaggerating a little. I don’t think he’s actually going to be wearing that the whole movie because in the pre-Arena scenes he’d be wearing regular clothes. Also, if the movie really follows the books, the suits get damaged by the poison fog and towards the end they’re pretty much walking around in underwear.
I actually was underwhelmed by the THG costume design for the most part, and hope CF does better. (BTW,Seneca’s beard wasn’t even technically a costume.) I’ve always pictured the tributes wearing “wet suits” of the type scuba divers and others who are into water-based recreation like jet-skiing, parasailing, etc. Some people just wear bathing suits, but wet suits keep you warmer. I didn’t think of the body suits being so tight-fitting that you can see every muscle like a stereotypical “superhero costume”. So hopefully Josh is joking around a little here.
@satsuma– i’m fairly certain he hasn’t actually seen the costumes yet. like you said, they’ll be filming the arena last, so it’s very likely the costumes aren’t even done yet. (and i agree about the arena costume being more like a “wet suit,” though personally i consider those to be pretty dang tight either way). oh, and the beard definitely does not count as a costume, ve neill and her people were in charge of that, so it falls under the make-up category.
omg he said atlanta! he said a couple months! and he gets to kiss jen. hehehe…
