Watch this behind the scenes video, a Vulture exclusive, of how they designed what they called Katniss and Peeta’s “fire wings” for the chariot outfits. I dunno about you guys, but I had no clue they were supposed to be wings!

THANK GOSH THEY DID NOT LOOK LIKE WINGS IN THE MOVIE!!

This was something I hated. The design of the fire looked terrible, and the vfx weren’t any better.

I think it would have been cool if they looked more like wings in the movie. It would have set up the Mockingjay title for Katniss even more.

I think it’s funny how they’ve made Josh about a foot taller in that picture :)

I absolutely LOVED the flames in the movie and when I saw it I was startled at how amazing it truly was. I’m glad it turned out how it did :)

“may the bod be ever in your favor, indeed” haha that was good

Woah, this was a really cool idea. Wish they had FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH IT. I loved the movie, but the onething I hated didn;t like was the fire – it didn’t look like… anything. I love the idea of wings, why couldn’t they make them actually look like wings?

I didn’t think the fire looked fake. That’s just my opinion :)

i’m with isaac on this one: i liked the fire, personally. i didn’t think it looked fake. granted, i have like zero artistic prowess so pretty much any CG is beyond my grasp, but i was pretty impressed the first time i saw the movie. maybe it wasn’t as much of a gigantic blaze of fire as people were expecting, but i thought it looked good. certainly didn’t look like WINGS, though…

meanwhile, that picture is making me crack up so bad. :D

I love how in the concept art he looks much taller than her, lol. I didn’t like the flames in the movie, the special effects were horrible, but the idea for the design makes more sense now. I like Gary’s thinking.

I was actually very disappointed with all the out fits (eccept for the capitol citizens) They just seemed less amazing compared to what suzzane said in the books

I admit to being quite disappointed in Katniss’ girl on fire dress. :(

person above^ i read somewhere that they tried to copy from the book like whiskers and colored skin but they said it didn’t look right so they didn’t do that.

Hahaha in the picture they over estimated Josh”s height. I love that he isn’t to tall though

“naked, bald and areolae-less Josh Hutcherson” XD

I am actually glad Josh isn’t that massively tall. I dunno, it makes Katniss and Peeta look more fitted together. I just love Josh as Peeta :D

And this fire wing thing is an interesting concept.

Not to offend josh because I did like him as Peeta in the movie but he is so short so so short. Anywho I like this pic more then the flames in the movie. The dress and the first outfits made me kinda sad.

I have to say I thought the fire could have been a little more impressive, I wasnt expecting too much, but it is one of my least favourite parts of the film. I always thought the fire looked artificial, and they almost looked like a cape, I think if they had spent more time making them look like the wings they talked about I think it would have been much more effective

It would have looked pretty cool as wings, but not really according to the books. I have to say, I didn’t really like Katniss’s dress, but what can you do?

I can see it now that it’s been pointed it, but before, I had no idea. Now that I do know, I think they could have done better with the affect.

Personally, even the concept art looks silly IMO. Maybe my thinking was in an entirely different realm but I expected Katniss and Peeta’s bodies to be CONSUMED in flames, as if they’d literally just stepped out of a fireplace and onto the chariot. The CGI in this scene was a major letdown, as well as Katniss’s interview dress (prom night pretty, not celebrity pretty). I thought they did a nice job on the Capitolites. I understood the reasonings behind that change.

Am i the only one who liked Katniss’ dress? Jennifer looked hot in that dress.

@Isaac well I think Jennifer looks hot in anything haha. But yes I also like her interview dress as well.

Too bad Peeta wasn’t really that tall in the movie :(

@Isaac- no, I absolutely loved her dress! I thought it was a big surprise when she spun and there was FIRE!!! (you know, since her dress didnt give anything away immediately from the pictures)

I hate this artificial inflation of Josh’s height. They did the same thing with Peeta’s tribute details in one of the companion books, listing his height as 5’10″ while listing Katniss as 5’6″ or 5’7″. Vertically speaking, he’s a shrimp – and I’d rather they just acknowledge it head on.
