Katniss Barbie Now Available on Amazon

I got mine from Barbie Collector the other day, and she’s magnificent!

Wow, I’m excited that people are getting them early! Mine hasn’t arrived yet, but I think it’s beautiful.

Im so angry at myself for wanting this so bad!! and buying it!!!

I read that they are also available at the Times Square Toys ‘R Us (without pre-order).

I actually don’t have a problem with it. It shows that you can be beautiful and strong and smart at the same time. I definately want one…I love movie dolls.

I think it’s weird to make Katniss into a Barbie because who are they marketing with this? Barbies are typically marketed toward young girls, like elementary and younger.I don’t think girls this age have any business reading the book (plus I doubt many would be a high enough reading level to get through it) or watching the movie. The audience that would actually play with Barbies are not mature enough for the Hunger Games. However,obviously teen and adult fans might buy it as a collectors item. My problem is that it portrays Katniss in a weird glamorized way that is completely against character and that I it will draw girls into the franchise that are too young to get it.

@Becca This doll is actually marketed as a collectible, not a toy for young girls. She’s part of the Black Label collection which are celebrity and pop culture dolls.

@jc Well that makes more sense then. But still I find it weird as it is the complete opposite of the way Katniss is portrayed in the books.

I don’t like its bad. It is more like a collector doll. I mean I can’t find a reason find this wrong or bad. I support buying it.

Well, I can see why some people wouldn’t want to buy it or even have it made because, it seems like something the Capitol might do: advertising Katniss as a toy that can be bought and then thrown away like she is nothing. I personally would buy the doll because it sounds really cool. I’m 12 (and I’ve read all 3 books and fully comprehended them and now they are my favorite books ever) so I don’t play with Barbies anymore, but Katniss would be sitting on my dresser with pride.

Ok people dont get me wrong I’m in love scratch that OBSESSED with these books! But people are forgetting we don’t live in panem and um as much as it hurts me to say it katniss is not real so how would she not want it? I mean I get it but how would it hurt to have it I mean I would want it cause it’s the closest thing as having katniss with you it’s just there to make you feel like she is there. And it’s not glamorizing her cause if you did not notice um she is in her hunting gear! How is that glamorous? I mean if she was in a dress fine but really??!!!

I want it.

I don’t get what the big deal is. It’s just a collectible toy, it’s not trying to make a statement. If you don’t like it, just don’t buy it.

@JB I’m with you on that. If you don’t want the doll, don’t buy it. *MOCKINGJAY SPOILERS* Plus, after the Captiol falls Katniss went into the textbooks and basically became famous. So little children (maybe even hers and Peetas’) might “play” Hunger Games or even dress up. This is no different.
I’m just glad that she’s not smiling. When they made the first Bella Barbie for Twilight she had a full toothed smile and THAT was what made me sick.

I think it’s fairly harmless, and I would rather little kids have a character like Katniss to play with than another rock star or shopping themed Barbie. The one thing that bugs me is the obviously made up look on her face. I know that Barbie dolls have big painted-on eyelashes and lipstick, but really? Putting all that on Katniss when she’s in her arena outfit seems a little out of place to me.

Oh I’m so buying this.

I want to see Peeta as a doll. . . But then again, maybe not.

I don’t think its weird. Like said, its intended to be a collector’s item. Even though the target age group is teens, there are still younger girls who have read the books, or have at least seen the movie. The idea of Katniss being a Barbie Doll is at least reinforcing a positive female image of being strong and independent, and she isn’t skimpily dressed.

I have no problem with people buying a Katniss doll because it’s your life and whatnot, but I think this is a little creepy. I understand that we don’t live in Panem, but the whole point was that Panem may not be that far off. Also, I thought one of the most disturbing things about the books is that they force these kids and teenagers to kill each other for sport and make them celebrities when they win. Whenever I see all the cardboard cut outs and lunch boxes and such, it just makes me think about that in the books, and how wrong it sometimes seems. I think the merchandising for this movie could’ve been a lot classier. I like mockingjay pins, or a cool t-shirt, but a Barbie doll might be taking it a little too far.
But like I said, I’m not going to think any less of you for having a Katniss barbie. They really aren’t meant for young kids anyway, which was my initial concern.

I like it. I think it shows that we are really no different from the citizens of the Capitol.

Honestly, as someone who seriously collects pop culture memorabilia related to my fandoms, this is the one piece of merchandise produced that I was most excited about.

I like having a physical representation of a character I adore. Figures and dolls are something that can be put on a shelf and treasured. They’re not as easily disposed of like t-shirts and socks. Katniss looks cool next to Agent Scully and Tony Stark.

At any rate, I don’t think this is is anymore “Capitol” than a pair of HG socks or the nail polish. It’s all merchandising. It’s all to make money.
