Official: Maria Howell Cast as Seeder in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’
Lionsgate has just announced Maria Howell has been cast as District 11 tribute Seeder!
Santa Monica, CA, August 13th, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Maria Howell has been cast in the role of Seeder in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. A former victor from District 11, Seeder competes in the 75th Annual Hunger Games, also known as the Quarter Quell.
Maria Howell is an Atlanta, Georgia based actress, singer, and voiceover artist best known as the choir soloist from the movie “The Color Purple.” She has also appeared on television in Army Wives, Drop Dead Diva, The Vampire Diaries, Meet The Browns, and House Of Payne, and in the acclaimed film “The Blind Side.”

I pictured Seeder a bit older than this, but I can live with it
She looks perfect, I imagined her to be slightly older but I am not fussed as she looks great. Visually another perfect choice.

Oh wow, love her! The book said she looked to be about 60, but they can very easily use makeup to make her appear a bit older. Another awesome choice!

Oh God, NO. She’s too young. Seeder is supposed to be in her 60s. This woman looks 35, maybe 40. And she has a too round face, looks a little too nice… I only hope she’ll have longer hair in the movie. Black streaked with grey. She has to have.
She is a great actress. She’s perfect. It’s called make up to make her look older. I need to find out Finnick it’s killing me!

I think that is maybe why Katniss wants her initially to be an ally. She embraces Katniss after the chariot rides and lets her know that Rue’s and Thresh’s family are alive. She’s kind to Katniss and like a mother figure to her.
@Brianna – Last I counted there were 6 named spots left (that’s including the mystery woman), 15 total counting the Tribute Boy/Girl slots.
I did imagine Seeder a bit older, but I still think she’ll do great! She looks very kind and caring, just like Seeder is.

I absolutely love the two shows that she is in. They are hilarious. Perfect fit for seeder. 
I think a few of you are confusing her in the Blind Side. She wasn’t the NCAA investigator. That was Sharon Morris who was already in the first Hunger Games movie working in the gamemaker room. She created a lot of the scenarios when they were in the arena. Maria Howell was a CPS worker in the Blind Side. I think she’ll do great as Seeder.

@Anonymous wow, I wonder if that’s true. Either that or they’re just having a really hard time casting the role. The actress has to resemble Alan Ritchson too, at least slightly. I always sort of imagined Amanda Seyfried in the role, except I think she might be too young.
Am lovin all the choices so far for the cast I’ve read catching fire at least 20 times its my favorite of the three and every time I see a new face It takes me to any scene in the book where they come out and it fits but Pleaseee can we get Matt Bomer for Finnick Odair!!?? He’s perfecttt please!! XD
