The Release of ‘The Hunger Games’ on DVD is Set to Break Records!
According to multiple media outlets ‘The Hunger Games’ DVD is set to slay records if it keeps up its recent sale numbers! It only hit the shelves of stores nationwide in the USA on Saturday (18th), but soon after those shelves were empty as fans flocked to their local stores to get their hands on a copy. ComicBook reported that a Wal-Mart Employee told them “It’s the fastest I’ve ever seen one of our DVDs sell.” going on to say that most retailers were sold out by Sunday morning.
While Lionsgate has yet to put out an official press release, indications are that sales are going very well. The current top selling DVD for 2012 is ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1′ with 5.2 million copies sold. It’s very possible that ‘The Hunger Games’ could exceed this number and become the top selling DVD for 2012 in its first weekend of release.
Many retailers, such as Wal-Mart, had midnight release parties which encouraged the fans to snag a copy as soon as possible and as we have seen in the posts on Mockingjay.net none of the release events with the cast were short in numbers! With various stores offering different editions of the DVD, more and more people are buying multiple copies, only serving to increase the number of sales. Lets hope these fantastic sales keep up!
