Josh Hutcherson Talks About SBNN and Catching Fire
Josh recently talked to MTV Act about his work with the charity Straight But Not Narrow and his nomination for the Do Something Awards, a ceremony dedicated to the nation’s best young philanthropists:
ACT: You are nominated for Male Film Star at VH1′s Do Something Awards for your work with Straight But Not Narrow. (Congrats!) Tell us a little why you are so passionate about this cause! What does it mean to you?
JOSH: I have always believed in standing up for what I believe in and I believe that everyone deserves the right to love whoever they love no matter who they are. SBNN is great because it reaches out to the straight community to spread the word about rising up and saying you have the right to be you.
ACT: Many teens are faced with the plight of bullying growing up. Was bullying ever an issue with you? What advice do you have for those currently going through it?
JOSH: I was very fortunate and didn’t personally encounter any bullies in school, however bullies exist in many ways in life. I think the best thing you can do is be secure in who you are and realize that the person who is bullying is the one you should feel sorry for their lack of knowledge. Bullies are just ignorant.
Josh also spoke briefly about The Hunger Games: Catching Fire:
ACT: Can you give us any hints of what’s in store for Peeta fans with the next “Hunger Games” film, “Catching Fire.”
JOSH: I can’t really give away anything awesome yet. Just that the script kicks ass and I love all the new cast members and I’m stoked to get started.

also, i like that he admits that, while bullying is an awful thing, he’s never been bullied himself. so many young celebrities nowadays are jumping on the “i’ve been bullied” train and it’s starting to sound more like a publicity stunt than actual honesty. it diminishes the impact of the message they’re trying to get across. i’m glad josh at least is honest about it.
Am I the only one that likes this look on him? I’m lovin it! He looks like a badass mofo*!
@carla – Yeah, I hope not to see that slicked-straight-back look in CF. I liked his THG hair because it balanced his forehead with his other features.

I have been out of the THG news loop for a couple of weeks so I may have missed something, but I’m excited to read his comment about the script. Obviously he won’t get into details, but “kicks ass” seems like a pretty authentically positive response. I take it as a good sign that he is so enthusiastic, since he could just offer something diplomatic and generic if he wasn’t quite feeling it. The casting seems to be coming along quite well and, frankly, the script is my biggest concern. I’m still wondering about some structural choices and how they will handle aspects of the story. I guess time will tell!
@Tricky – I think we’re all nervous about how things will be handled, but I agree that Josh’s assessment seems refreshingly blunt and genuine, which is a great sign. (He’s always genuine, but he doesn’t usually couch it in such colorful terms.)
Wow…….. not good :\… I honestly don’t understand why we even have famous people. I don’t even know how to say this. It really bothers me.
@SPM– agreed about the “colorful terms”! he seems particularly effusive in this interview. i think he’s just really starting to get excited because filming’s coming up. which in turn gets ME excited.

That would have been great if he slipped up…well for us anyway =) I think he looks good and I like the blonde so far, it looks better than it did a few weeks ago, plus the lighting looks really bright in that picture above. Anyway, let’s hope we get some casting news soon, it’s been over a week now and it’s just wrong to torture us HG fans like that!!!
