Pre-ordering is now available for ‘Snow White and the Huntsman‘ starring Sam Claflin, which will be released on BR/DVD/UV on September 11, 2012. Since this is shaping up to be the movie we watch for Mockingjay Movie Night #4, it could be a great reason to buy it if you were still deciding on whether to get it. Sam plays Prince William in the film.

really? you’re going to go with SWATH for the next movie night? hmmm. i guess… i mean, i did like him in that movie– he and charlize were pretty much my favorite parts of the film. the movie’s not that great, though. not that PotC4 is much better, but i thought sam was more “finnicky” in that one. and that way you wouldn’t have to subject people to kristen stewart. *shrug* just my opinion, though.

Well, SWATH is shorter and I think we’re going to do several movies during the next movie night, including THG.

@crystal– oh, okay, that makes sense. in that case i’ll keep my fingers crossed that i’ll have received my THG DVD by then. :)

I saw SWATH in the cinema earlier today, and it seems that Sam is only cast to play flat, personality less characters. However, when *SPOILER* Ravenna pretends to be William, and holds up the apple to Snowhite, I saw him holding up a sugar cube in front of Katniss. Sam’s growing on me, and anyone unsure of Sam’s casting should pay attention to that scene. It’s what gave me hope.

This was such a bad movie, I can’t justify buying it just to see Sam. Charlize was great, but the plot holes and Kristen Stewart were just horrible. And that isn’t just hate for Kristen Stewart because of Twilight, she was legitimately awful in this movie.

I agree with @carla on this one, if mockingjay movie night is going to be a Sam Claflin film, it should definitely be Pirates of the Caribbean. I dont care if SWATH is shorter, its also an awful movie. Sams role is larger in pirates and his general appearance is very Finnicky and I think might help a lot of doubters warm up to him

@Kayley I could only get through 20 minutes of POTC4, so I think it’s just as awful! We’ll see though, maybe we can watch both. We want to experiment and see how attendance is if we host chats all day.

I rather liked the movie. I only watched it because Chris Hemsworth was in it, but I wound up liking all the characters. Sam was great, and seeing him playing Will who *SPOILER* rushed off to find Snow White when he found out she was alive made me think of Mags and Finnick, and their close relationship.

Sam will be a great Finnick. Though I wasn’t sure at first, I think he’ll do the role justice.

No problem:) I love that movie!

@carla – LOL to the Kristen Stewart comment, I was so distracted by her ‘accent’ the whole way through the film.

Thanks for the comments and feedback all, we are still tossing up ideas for the next movie night (it ties in with some other special events next month… :D )and we’re thinking of some type of matinee screenings to cater for a few different time zones this time around. So be prepared for next month to be a bit experimental! :)

Yeah, PotC 4 is bad generally; as good as Sam was in it, I don’t know that it’s worth sitting through the entire thing for what amounts to only a few minutes of screentime with him. Shame, because I loved him in that role and I saw many Finnick-esque qualities in how he played Philip.

I’ll have to agree with those who don’t want SWaTH to be the movie. I think other than both that one and PoTC4 being bad movies, my strongest argument to lean toward the latter is that people are a bit biased about Sam’s casting as Finnick because they relate him to Kirsten. Which I think is very unfair: just because she can’t act (sorry, it’s the truth, she just can’t) doesn’t mean her costars are as bad as she is. And not everything she touches must remind us of Twilight.
By the way, fun fact: our Josh also was in a movie with her, a long time ago (Zathura).

@tash– i mostly just ignored her presence, really. which is kind of sad given that she WAS the main character of the movie, LOL. *shakes head*

speaking of accents, though, the one that really bothered me was chris hemsworth’s. i legit could not enjoy him in that movie because of that. i just kept going “but WHY would you ask him to change his (amazingly PERFECT) accent when he absolutely didn’t need to? just– just… WHY?” i mean, aussie accents are close enough to british accents that the rest of the world doesn’t even know the difference (haha, you might know more about that than i would, right, tash?). so i just didn’t see the point in giving the huntsman a different accent when everybody else was speaking like a brit. it didn’t really add anything and it honestly was just the final nail on the coffin of my SWATH movie experience.

anyway, rant over (…i fixate on the oddest things, sorry). hey, maybe you guys could have both movies and just tell people to skip all the scenes without sam. it’s what i would do, haha. :P

@carla – I haven’t seen SWATH but that is strange about Chris’s accent. I always feel Aussies can imitate British accents better than anyone else can, especially us Yanks.

  13.

    @SPM–

it was SOME kind of UK accent, i couldn’t really pinpoint which one (…scottish? welsh? i don’t know). my best guess is that they meant for him to sound more like a “commoner” or give him a more “rough around the edges” vibe or something along those lines, but it just… it didn’t work for me at all. i was more frustrated by the loss of his real accent than anything else, and i kept flashing back to john rhys-davies’ accent in the LotR movies (which was ironic since there were eight dwarves in SWATH yet the one character who made me think of gimli was the huntsman). eh, i don’t know, it just bothered me.

if you haven’t seen the movie, you can hear a little bit of the accent in this clip:

  14.

@carla – Heheh, they probably could have gotten away with his normal accent. To us, the British sound very different, but I guess to the rest of the world we wouldn’t sound that far apart :) That’s probably why as SPM said Aussies/Brits tend to do a much better job of imitating each other’s accents, and American accents. I always laugh when an American tries to do an Australian accent, it is just nigh on impossible!

I thought his accent in SWATH was sort of a hybrid Scottish/Welsh thing, so I really have no idea what they were going for there. They sort of murdered accents everywhere the entire film :(

All this talk of accents though makes me want to get a podcast going or something, I’d love to know what you think of my accent lol (it’s pretty much as Aussie as they come!)
