Jennifer Lawrence: “I Wouldn’t Be Embarrassed to Be Known as [Katniss] For the Rest of My Life”

One woman is certainly clogging up the news feed this week and if it can’t be Suzanne Collins, then Jennifer Lawrence is by no means a poor second choice! Our favourite actress has been on fire (I had to, I’m sorry) this week at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting her new movie The Silver Linings Playbook (out November 21st). Lawrence made quite an impression on Canoe.ca: “To state the obvious: Jennifer Lawrence is very beautiful. After that, the two things you notice about her right away are her great laugh and her zero b——- level.”
You were only 14 when you tackled acting in earnest. How did you know so young what you wanted?
It was weird. I just knew it was what I was made for, what I needed, what I wanted and what I was meant to do with my life. And I didn’t want to let it go … I’m so lucky. People are always asking me if I’m pinching myself because of the success of the Hunger Games, but honestly, my friends my age are just now coming out of college and they’re not sure what they want to do, and I’ve been blessed to simply know what I want to do for so long.Has it been difficult to handle success — so much, so fast?
It hasn’t been for me. I don’t know what I’m waiting for. Everyone made it seem like, when it happens, everything his going to change, and you meet famous people and obviously, they act differently, but that’s because people treat them differently. And I would meet them and I used to wonder, ‘Is that what I’m going to end up like?’ But nothing has actually changed for me.Nothing?
Well, now I get followed by paparazzi, but I just change cars with my friends so they don’t follow me, or now I’m looking at houses, because I love my condo, but it doesn’t have a gate so I have to look into moving. It’s just technical things like that. I have all the same people around me. I don’t like having B.S. people around me.Did the Hunger Games mean a change in the roles you’ve been offered?
I didn’t really have any career expectations. I know that seems weird, but I’ve always been incredibly lucky, in that, the one script I read, that I fall in love with and I’m like, ‘I have to make this movie!’ or ‘I have to work with this director!’ — I’ve done it.
So that was such a rare, incredibly lucky thing that’s happened to me, that I wasn’t pining after these imaginary roles that I thought Hunger Games would satisfy. It was actually the opposite — I was afraid this one character would overpower the rest of my characters. But I genuinely liked the books and the movie and that character, and I wouldn’t be embarrassed to be known as that character for the rest of my life. Well, obviously, not only that character.
Jennifer also talked about working with Robert De Niro which you can read in the entire article at Canoe.ca. Thanks to HGGirlOnFire

Well nobody would be embarrassed to be known as Katniss for the rest of their life
Yeah, a lot of actors and actresses get identified with their one big role.
The young Harry Potter stars have done a very good job of breaking that mold afterwards.
I’d be embarrassed to be known as Peeta, but not most of the other male characters. wouldn’t mind having Josh’s looks and wealth though.
DOes her hair seem darker to anyone else then it was in the first movie? Or is it just me?
It’s interesting how some actors and actresses wind up being defined by one role in a popular movie franchise, and some don’t. Such as the Star Wars Trio of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford. Hamill and Fisher unfortunately never moved beyond being known as Luke and Leia for the rest of their lives, but Ford did break out of the Han Solo role.
As for Harry Potter, I get the feeling that Dan Radcliffe chose his theater projects like “Equus” and “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” AND made some TMI statements such as drinking too much and doing movie scenes while hung over, about losing his virginity, etc., in a calculated plan to break out of the “innocent good boy” HP role.
Luckily, he doesn’t seem to have gone way overboard like other child celebrities, who seem to think they can only graduate from their “good boy” or “good girl” personas by going to the other extreme, embracing a “skanky slut” or “druggie who’s always either in rehab or on parole” persona.
I am glad, though, that Jen, Josh, and Liam all seem to have good heads on their shoulders! Same goes for Willow!
@kateandtheneverlandpirates– that might have to do with the lighting. in the movie she was outdoors practically the whole time, and with the sun shining down on her, her hair will look lighter, not to mention the colors she’s surrounded with, the greens and the greys, bring out the brown shades in her hair. in other scenes, such as when she was getting dressed for the reaping, she’s indoors and it looks a lot darker. it could be the same with these pictures.
i think jennifer is amazing! she is not like the twilight actors that dont want twilight attached to them. she is a great katniss and i cant wait to see catching fire!!
I honestly didn’t even recognized her in any if the movies she has stared in so I would say that she should stick with katniss
@Alan lol yup, kinda weird to be always called “Peeta”. I’d love to be known as like Haymitch though just because I love that character to death.
@Khanster:
the thick Boston accent version of Peter isn’t my biggest issue with him.
He reminds me of myself in a bad way.
He’s somehow even worse at talking to women than I am, so it seems unrealistic that he gets away with it, and I don’t like him being a softie in general.
