Chapter 14 is finally here and, with it, the unveiling of the District 4 location!
It’s not where I imagined it to be! I guessed the district directly south of D4 or the district that overlaps with New England (there’s some good fishing to be had there, too!)
Did you guess that this was the location of District 4?

really am not liking the look of the ‘official’ map.
@Alan: Agreed… It looks like they just randomly put the districs in these places, but let’s wait until it is completed…
By the way: did suzanne collins developed this map? Because if she didn’t, at least for me, this isn not the official one.
I totally agree with both @Alan and Anonymous. They could at least TRY to make everything look as realistic and imaginitive as possible… but hey, that’s just my opinion!
http://www.mediafire.com/view/?ikn8n1c4hv74oxv isn’t perfect, but I like it a lot better and it’s my favorite amongst fan maps.
wow, that high up north? that’s… interesting.
it doesn’t really bother me, for D4 as long as it’s on the coast it works IMO, but that’s certainly not where i imagined it would be.
what i find funny is all the twists and turns the train would have to take during the victory tour… you’d think the capitol would assign district numbers in some sort of geographical order. but i guess the way i was envisioning them in my mind isn’t much better in that regard, either.
I thought it would be the Southern-most district, covering Mexico. But this kind of works too.
I guess I always thought of District 4 being warmer than say the Washington/Oregon, but it does make sense considering the importance of the fishery industry there today. Plus whose to say that it isn’t warmer up there after all those natural disasters that lead to the creation of Panem in the first place.
Well, given that 90 percent of shrimp harvested in the US comes from the Gulf of Mexico/Louisiana and that’s what Katniss’s prep team was complaining about not being able to get, D4 should be where D11 is. Finnick could not be sun bronzed in the pacific NW. js. And apples/orchards are not a warm, humid weather crop – they grow them in the northern areas of the country (Washington, Great Lakes areas, and some in the mid-Atlantic). I’d actually picture D11 above where 4 is now or in the next section over. Fans have created better maps than this.
people keep forgetting that THG is a post-apocalyptic story. yes, it would make a lot of sense for us to distribute the districts according to the layout of north america as it is today, but the HG universe doesn’t HAVE to be constricted to that. after all kinds of global disasters, the weather could have changed, the tides could have changed, the fish could have migrated elsewhere. saying this map is wrong just because D4 is in a location that nowadays is cold and not as well known for its fishing industry is rather close-minded.
there are certain things that can’t be changed, such as what is UNDER the earth– if they told us D12 was anywhere coal is not mined today i might have a problem with that, because huge coal deposits come to be over millions of years. but fish? that should be the least of our concerns, honestly.
@carla:
I thought of the global disasters as mainly flooding the coasts, which this and other maps do represent to varying degrees.
@alan– i agree with the flooding idea, but i personally think it was more than that… i would attribute the collapse of modern society to something a lot more drastic than just a rise in sea level… but even if it was just the flooding of the coasts, that alone belies a dramatic climatological change. so who’s to say it can’t be sunny in the pacific northwest, after all of that?
Yes I knew it was gonna be here, i don’t know why but when ever I think of fishing, I think of west coast, not mexico. Here are my predictions: District 1: Above Capitol, 3: Below 4, 5:Diagonal from 12 6:Above “5″ 7:Above 4 8:Above 11 9: Right of Capitol 10:Below 2 13: Above 12
i made a song
i dont dont dont dont have a facebook! oh i dont dont dont have a fac
soory heres the whole song
i dont dont dont have a facebook
i dobt dont dont have a facebook
yes i dont dont dont have a facebook
so stop putting everything there! cha cha
3, 6 and 8 don’t really depend on the environment, and 5 might not depending on the type of power plant. So they could go anywhere, especially after process of elimination with the more environment-sensitive districts.
I always imagined Finnick as the California surfer type.
@Carla “what i find funny is all the twists and turns the train would have to take during the victory tour”
I haven’t played the game but to me those seem like borders not railways. And it makes more sense as they are trying to avoid contact between the districts
IM IN DISTRICT 4.
))))))
THG adventures game won’t load for me :/ Is anyone else having the same problem? Does anyone know what I can do about it? :/
Actually, placing District 4 in the Norcal area makes sense for me. I live in Santa Cruz, CA (even though we may be underwater it’s still in the general area) and the sea faring life is something that is very important to the residents there (among other hobbies). So it would make sense that all the Santa Cruz residents would want to move to a coastal area that will allow them to continue their lifestyle.
On that note, sorry District 7. But I’m switching my allegiance to District 4. That’s close to where I live.
