MTV’s Wish List for the ‘Catching Fire’ Soundtrack

It seems that the tweet earlier in the week from We the Kings guitarist, Travis Clark, was also inspiring for MTV as well, with Amy Wilkinson posting a wish list of artists she’d like to see featured on the ‘Catching Fire’ soundtrack:

Florence + The Machine
I’ve been pining for 26-year-old Florence Welch to visit Panem since before the first installment hit theaters in March. The English songstress has such a powerful pair of pipes, and her ethereal ballads lend an air of epic-ness to everything they touch (see: “Snow White and the Huntsman” and the recently released “Beautiful Creatures” trailer). I think we can all agree storytelling doesn’t get much more epic than 24 children battling in a televised death match.

Mumford & Sons
No, this won’t be an entire list of English bands with punctuation marks in the middle of their names. Anyway! The franchise’s first soundtrack leaned heavily on country influences, what with the inclusion of Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert and the Secret Sisters. If the film’s music supervisor decides to stick with a similar theme, the rock group’s folk sensibility would be at safe and sound here.

Blake Shelton
Again with the country. Blake Shelton’s wife Miranda Lambert and his “The Voice” co-judge Adam Levine (of Maroon 5) both appeared on “The Hunger Games” soundtrack, so he’ll have two artists to ask for tips and advice. Not that he needs to. But still.

Alicia Keys
Guys, her new single is titled “Girl on Fire.” It doesn’t get more fitting than that. Though Keys was not inspired by Suzanne Collins’ dystopian tale (she said as much during an interview with Entertainment Weekly), there’s no denying her collaboration with Nicki Minaj is sufficiently inspiring enough to keep our heroine Katniss Everdeen alive in the arena.

Taylor Swift…Again
Because she can do no wrong.

Do you agree with Amy’s choices? Are there any of your favourite bands you’d like to see featured on the next soundtrack?

    I’d like :
-Take That: those guys rules and they did an amazing soundtrack for X-Men First Class (Rule The World, The Flood and Love Love are amazing songs)
    -Radiohead
-A Fine Frenzy : Her song almost lover is incredible
-Stars : not a known band, that’s good.
    -Fat Boy Slim
    -Crystal Method
    -Kaiser Chiefs
    -Keane
    -Franz Ferdinand

I would say Muse, but as they are too much related to Twilight, it’s a no.

As for the instrumental soundtrack : Marc Streitenfield (from Prometheus, which is thrilling) or Michael Giacchino

    No more Taylor Swift !

I would definitely love to see The Civil Wars in the soundtrack again and I actually think The Black Keys could make something really good for Catching Fire! I’m surprised no one’s thought of them yet.

    My wishlist:
    Mumford and Sons
    Phillip Phillips
Taylor Swift + Civil Wars combo (but with more of the Civil Wars than last time)
    Florence and the Machine
Nickelback (they could fit the feel of Hunger Games)
    OneRepublic
    The Fray

Catching Fire should have “Hall of Fame” by The Script & “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys.
WOULD REALLY BE AN AMAZING SONG FOR THE MOVIE!!

I’m willing to give anyone a chance (Yes, even 1D) because I remember thinking that Taylor Swift and Maroon 5 couldn’t pull it off (TS because all her songs are about boys, M5 because their songs are pop), but THEY DID, along with all of the other artists. The way they made references to specific subjects/people in the book was INCREDIBLE. So I think it’s important to consider that. Also, I think Coldplay’s “Up In Flames” would be a great song to play in the credits for Mockingjay: Part 2.

    can’t be more perfect
