“Now the crops begin, stretched out as far as the eye can see. Men, women and children wearing straw hats to keep off the sun straighten up, turn our way, take a moment to stretch their backs as they watch our train go by.”
Two new images from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire set have cropped up (ho ho) from Atlanta showing Peacekeepers and others in a field of crops. Could this be District 11? You can view the pictures underneath the cut. Source: Alowisney via HGT

Those Peacekeeper uniforms are just terrible. They look like Martians.
I can’t wait to see the scene with Rue’s family!
Wow those uniforms look scary
Why would the peacekeepers suits be different from 12′s suits??
Yup, no doubt about it. That’s District 11.
Wow, that has to be an emotional experience for the blacks playing the workers in the field with the Peacekeepers as overseers. Harkens back to slavery days.
It’s going to be a powerful scene in the movie as well.
I agree! I feel like this movie will be powerful
I also love the outfits this movie is going to be AMAZING!!!
Definitely District 11! By the way, I really like the new Peacekeepers suits except for one thing: the helmet, it just makes them look like Stormtroopers from Star Wars. I guess they’re trying to show that security measures have been increased on the Districts and therefore the Peacekeepers outfits had to be updated, make them look more badass
Peacekeeper uniforms look even better when the helmet thing is down.
Ooh yeah, it looks like district 11. Looks awesome!
Ahhhhh my eyes! I have seen to much hahaha I really should stop looking at these photos, even though this photo is not that spoilery but its to hard to not look at them. I feel like I have practically seen the whole movie with all of these set photos. And im surprised Lionsgate hasn’t done anything to remove the photos.
Haha….my first thought was “Hey! How’d Boba Fett get in the movie?!” :p The Peacekeeper uniforms are a bit…uh…hmm….but, you know, these are more sneak peaks into the movie and that makes me super happy and excited!! More! More!!
Wow they look awesome ! Everything looks great I wonder when they are going to release a trailer ?
Woah, wait is that cotton? Uh, this is not going to go over well with the black community. I just don’t think this was a good idea.
I wonder where this is being filmed… Its definitely not in the city…
well @Maia, they just started filming not to long ago so they should have a trailer i predict by next year in may. well… maybe not.;)
really? picking cotton? -__________________-
could’ve atleast been like corn or something, GODDAMN.
@Kailey It’s true that this does hint back to when slavery existed in America, but I don’t think this is going to cause a rise or upset anyone. It’s not like the people of District 11 were the only ones being treated as slaves and working hard. In most districts, people were being treated that way, no matter their race (in fact, racism wasn’t even a “thing” in the THG world). No matter where you came from, or the color of your skin, you were working hard for practically no benefits, just being a slave for those in some far off world, giving your everything to those who already have everything while you go home with nothing.
FL(the new director)seems to be going all out!
@Knightlock – So are we!! Initially we didn’t want to post a lot of these set photos due to the usual embargo plus spoiling it for others, but it’s just been a real free for all it seems. We’ll continue placing them under the cut though for those who don’t wish to be spoiled, although I must admit it is very very hard to resist looking!
looks like 11 to me. If not, it’s 9.
@William THE blacks? uh… ok?
This looks awesome and I can’t wait to see if this one is closer to the book than Ross’
yeah this is not going to go down well with the public if they ONLY show black people in district 11. This story is set several hundred years in the future.. so why is there still segregation? I really hope the movie don’t make that mistake of showing only black people in this scene..
oh, wow, that looks awesome. very much like how i imagined D11 would look like. i like it.
for those of you expressing concerns about the race of the workers: don’t be worried, guys. we can only see two of them clearly in these pictures, that doesn’t mean every single one of them will be dark-skinned. and the similarities to the days of slavery in the united states are probably introduced on purpose, much like the reaping scene in the first movie had concentration-camp vibes, and the capitol is so heavily influenced by the roman empire in the books. it’s not something they’re just adding there for kicks, these are parallels that are deliberately introduced to make this futuristic world look bleaker, this idea that sometimes the cruelty of human beings is such that history might repeat itself. it’s cautionary, not meant to be an offense to anyone.
wow, wow wow! cant wait! i dont want to spoil the movie, but i cant help myslef from looking! not to sure about the peacekeeper uniforms, i prefered the old ones, but can understand why they changed them! i hope they show all the reapings! chaff and seeder, here we come!
@kati, well remember EVERYONE was treated like slaves back then. I think that the districts are like countries, each one has different looks to it. If you’re saying D11 is racist towards blacks then y that same nature you could say D12 is racist towards anyone with olive skin, dark hair, and grey eyes. In Panem, they probably don’t even know what race is.
@Carla You took the words right out of my mouth when it came to the issue of slavery being represented here.
They change Peacekeepers uniform, or each district has its own design? Seems like it.
Well, I hope this movie not become sensitive issue because of District 11 citizen (mostly) are black.
/pray
The Peacekeepers look like something out of Star Wars. But I think this is District 11 because they work in fields
This story is about a reality show where kids kill other kids and a government that starves their people and you’re worried about how there’s segregation?
I don’t wanna offend anyone but:
ARE YOU KIDDING?!?
The invocation of slavery must be deliberate, but it’s not like it’s the only historical invocation. And it’s not like all the blacks live in 11, or that everyone living in 11 is black. 11 seems to be a district with a majority black population, but we’ve also seen white people in the crowd in the first movie. There is no segregation – everyone in the districts is equally exploited and oppressed regardless of skin color.
We’ve already seen black people from Capitol (Cinna, Atala) and in CF we’ll get to see black characters from district 2 (Enobaria) and district 3 (Beetee).
I think after the world has been racked with wars, global warming and famine RACE will not be an issue but survival will be. Think about it. The Capitol just makes what is left of our country into slaves for the Capitol’s benefit and the color of ones skin 400 years from now will not be important. As for the peace keepers uniforms well I am more excited about the clothes of Katniss, Effie and so on. The wedding dress/mockingjay wow! The victory tour! super fun! I love these books even more than my kids. The story being told here really echos some reality of life being played out today.
How is there segregation if there are dark skinned capitol citizens in the movie?
@Ivana- you’re completely right about the other tributes that are also African-American (or African-Panemian if you will
). I hadn’t even thought about Beetee and Enobaria. Good point.
Anyhow, this photo is really exciting. I can’t wait to see Katniss and Peeta zoom through on a Capitol train. It’s going to give me chills
spooky
definatly District 11! *SQEAUL* ! so exicted for Catching Fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Strange…they look more like Jedi than Peacekeepers
1)There is nothing racist about The Hunger Games. In fact, I doubt they even classify people by race. NO ONE’s race is ever mentioned in those books. There is no such think as white, there is no such thing as black. EVERYONE is just a human.
2)No one in the 12 districs are “slaves”. These people are held down, but they aren’t slaves. They aren’t “forced” to work. In fact, the only thing they are forced to do is participate in the HG.
I wish that someone who actually identifies as Black or African-American would give their take on this possible D11 scene, whether they found it offensive or not. I think that Francis Lawrence and others involved with the film MAY have intended for there to be a parallel with historical practices of slavery in America, even though this goes against book canon in some ways; Rue talks about picking fruit, not cotton. But I agree with carla that this was likely deliberate in the same way that the similarities to WWII concentration camps and ancient Rome were deliberate, the whole theme of history repeating itself that the series itself tackles, especially in MJ.
However, I’d contest the idea that “There is no segregation – everyone in the districts is equally exploited and oppressed regardless of skin color.” At least in D12, there seems to be a connection between skin color and oppression. The merchants are NOT as equally exploited as the miners are, though they are also exploited, Peeta was still in a position to help Katniss, not vice versa.
Now, though I wouldn’t call it a race issue in the way 21st century Americans see it. But a well-respected THG blogger, “aimmyarrowshigh/V. Arrow”, has argued that Merchant and Seam are indeed meant to represent different races. Now, this argument takes her to interesting conclusions, namely that it’s biologically impossible for the blonde, fair-skinned Prim to have a Seam father, and that SC meant for us to conclude that Mr. Mellark, Peeta’s father, is Prim’s father as well. I don’t go that far. But I don’t know if saying that THG doesn’t address race issues at all is quite accurate.
Woah that is NOT district 11! Those cotton fields look like they could be across the street from where I live in Georgia! No I don’t think the use of cotton fields is necessarily meant to be an allusion to slavery. I think it’s more of a convenience thing, since there are cotton fields EVERYWHERE in Georgia.
As a Black guy/African-American, I do not take offense to this at all. It would be crazy to do so. D11 was described as being the agriculture district, predominantly dark-skinned, and severe in punishment. All allusions to colonial slavery. Like others have said, the Reapings were like Nazi concentration camps (even had the same look to the ones showcased on movies/documentaries) and the Capitol is like Ancient Rome (they have Roman names for Pete’s sake!)
I like that they added in several Blacks to the D11 scene(s). It creates a stronger emotional connection with the audience, saying: “Look, the Capitol is so evil, it brought back slavery.” Really driving home the cruelty of the ruling city and the submission the districts have succumbed to.
I think people are too sensitive sometimes when it comes to race. FL is not insulting us, making light of colonial slavery, nor saying these are the only roles we can play. He is simply following the source material.
(On an unrelated note, I wonder if they’re gonna have the bodies of Rue and Thresh on stage along with the families? Now THAT would be emotionally jarring.)
^I forgot to put my name.
Annonymus-oh I am not sure that anyone would be able to sit through the scene in District 11 with bodies of Rue and Thresh onstage! I know that would make me upset–I know plenty of other people who cried in the theater when Rue was killed, and were then dismayed when the sky signal noted that Thresh was also dead.
I think just seeing these tributes families in mourning when Katniss and Peeta are there will be heartbreaking enough-especially if I remember Rue had small siblings,
This entire movie is going to be sad to watch(and rightfully so)
My daughter is taking the year to prepare herself for when Cinna is killed and when Peeta is abducted. T
I think instead of cotton, they should have shown stuff that needs to be picked from tall trees right? Cause Rue “climbs trees”???
Well Rue picks fruit from the orchards, district 11 is a big district, It looks a little different from what I imagined but I can definatly see it
My programmer is trying to persuade me to move to .
