Been dying to know what Panem looks like? Here’s a Fanmade Version!

This has to be the coolest thing I’ve seen all day, so I felt that I had to share it with all of you (who will hopefully think its as interesting as I did or I look silly now!). The blog aimmyarrowshigh has completed the very arduous task of trying to create a realistic map of Panem, since we’re all so desperately confused as to where all of the districts are situated and what the country actually looks like.

The books dont give us a whole lot of description on the locations of each district, we are simply given vague hints as to where they are. So, with that in mind, this map that badguys and aimmyarrowshigh have created gives us a fantastic and throughly thought-out idea of what Panem probably looks like. You can see the the finished product above, but if you click this link it will take to over to the blog where you can see the entire process and their trains of thought to get to that. Awesome!

That is cool!! I think I’ve seen it once before and it’s one of the most realistic ones I’ve seen.

The only problem is that the numbers are kind of hard to see. Can anyone tell what district the circular area is above district 12? I can’t get a close enough view of it to tell.

This can’t be true. Katniss hunts in the woods OUTSIDE her district. If that was according to this map, then she would be hunting in other districts, and they’d be able to see them throught the fence. And, in I think book 3, it say it took about 45 minutes to get to district 13 from 12 in a hovercraft. When are they gonna mak a somewhat realistic map?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I like it but couldn’t understand why would they say:

“D10 is primarily used for raising livestock. They do NOT process the livestock in D10. However, to feed an entire nation, D10 is likely another very large District”

Entire nation? Sounds unlikely the entire nation gets fed by them, I think is just the Capitol.
I also find it too pretty to be realistic.

We also have “official” map from the Hunger Games videogame (wasn’t Suzanne Collins consulted while creating it? I believe I read that somewhere) and it shows the districts are not only divided by fences, but THICK paths of wilderness, so its not like you can jump from one district to another.

I don’t really like it all that much. It is a very cool interpreatation and no doubt it took a long time to create it, but there are some things that I don’t agree with. District 12 is suppose to be in the area of the Ozark mountain range (Katniss says so in the first novel), that’s in Arkansas not West Virgina as shown in the map. Overall though it is interesting to see.

It looks pretty cool, but I think I like the one THGA put out a lot better.

I think I’d be in six… The numbers are hard to read.

Being that SC helped with The Hunger Games Adventures, I’d think that would be a closer estimation to what Panem looks like than this one.

The capitol is supposed to be in the rocky mountains. The eastern half of Colorado is as flat as Kansas. Even Denver isn’t really “in the mountains.”

not really how I imagined it, but everyone has their own opinion !!

Does this map show that the NY metro area (where I live) is District 13? That is the circle above District 12.

Nice looking map, unfortunately not very accurate. District 7 produces lumber and yet on this map it covers the Canadian prairies where there are very few trees. In fact, most of what is designated as District 7 here would actually be farm land dedicated to growing wheat, canola and other crops. Contrary to popular belief Canada is not a huge forest.

One thing I didn’t like about the book, is that it’s not very explanatory on other continents. Like what’s up with them? Are we supposed to assume they’re all non existent or everyone on them are dead and only north americans made it? Really don’t get it. And if they’re not dead, why would they let Panem exist the way it does? Are they the exact same? Because of the lack of logics and explanations in this book, it’s no where as near as good as HP. Which was much more detailed and international than HG.

I agree 100% that HP is more detailed and a richer story than HG, but I always assumed the lack of information about other continents stems from Katniss’s ignorance. The Capitol tries very hard to keep the people of Panem in the dark about even the other districts. When would a 16 year old district girl have had time to learn about the rest of the world? It’s not realistic for other continents to be addressed with the limited POV.

Worst one I’ve seen, in my opinion. Weird boundary lines, and not realistic. It’s not like the capitol took out a map, started making artistic swirls, and assigned numbers to them. They would’ve made boundaries that made sense.

I have to agree with Erin F here. Where District 7 is placed on this map there are actually very few trees. The Canadian prairies are known for being vast plots of land with farmers’ fields and practically no trees. There are plenty of prairie jokes about this very thing. Western Alberta and into BC has a number of trees, though.

To all the peeps arguing about whats on the territories: Stop thinking about what you see now

Panem is not north America 2020… its probably year 2500 or so (this is just a guess btw). After all the disasters, wars and climatic changes the planet (soil, flora and fauna) would also change accordingly.
