Mockingjay.net’s 2012 Hunger Games Christmas Gift Guide

It’s December 10 and people now officially only have 14 days to get gifts to people before Christmas eve. If you’re shopping for a Hunger Games fan, we’ve got some recommendations for you right here! (above ornament made by treena410 on Etsy)
Books
The Hunger Games – This obviously only applies to people who haven’t read the books yet, but at $5 per paperback copy, you can’t go wrong stuffing someone’s stocking with this or giving it to a co-worker. Forcing people to read books by shoving a copy into their hands can do life changing thing. My aunt forced my copy on The Hunger Games on me and look what she started…
The Hunger Games Collector’s Edition – Obviously we all can’t afford to fly down to Australia or New Zealand to pick up those sweet Luxury editions, so we’ll just have to make do with our own Collector’s Edition of The Hunger Games. Unless, of course, you actually LIVE there. In which case, the Luxury Editions would make any Hunger Games fan do a lot of shrieking on Christmas morning.

Catching Fire isn’t the only Young Adult movie adaptation coming out next year. Read the books for 2013′s YA movies!
Beautiful Creatures – Set in the south, the story centers around Ethan Wate and caster Lena Duchannes as Lena anxiously awaits her 16th birthday, when her powers will be claimed for light or dark forces. The movie will be out in February and stars Alice Englert, Alden Ehrenreich, Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons, and Viola Davis.

Warm Bodies – Also out in February, this is the story about R, a zombie who is having a no-life crisis until he meets Julie and falls in love. The movie stars Nicholas Hoult, Theresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, and John Malkovich.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters – Book 2 in the Percy Jackson series. Percy must help save Camp Half-Blood by retrieving the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes by the end of the summer. The movie will be out in March and stars Logan Lerman, Sean Bean, Nathan Fillion, and our very own Stanley Tucci and Leven Rambin!
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones – Set in New York City, this is the first book of the Mortal Instruments series, which centers around 15 year-old Clary as she’s drawn into the world of Shadowhunters, whose job is to kill demons roaming the Earth. The movie will be out in August and stars Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Lena Headey.

Ender’s Game – A classic sci-fi favorite for almost 30 years, the book is about young Ender Wiggin, who is taken from his parents by the military when he’s just six years old to head to Battle School in orbit over Earth to train to become the military savior of the human race. The movie will be out in November and stars Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, and Viola Davis.

For the Home

What could be more insane than a giant life-size Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, or Gale Hawthorne on a bedroom wall? Fathead makes gigantic wall mural stickers for the ultimate Hunger Games fans. They even have giant movie posters. I have one to review, but admit I’m scared to open it because it’s so massive!

Love the UK Hunger Games covers? Get these gorgeous Christmas tree ornaments to match! Made and sold by TreeBaublez on Etsy.

This is definitely one of the strangest Hunger Games items I’ve seen available: a Hunger Games blanket wrap. I’ve included it here for those of you that want to start a legit Hunger Games cult or just to stay warm while you re-read the trilogy. Is it a snuggie? A blanket? A monk robe? I don’t know, but I’m dying to hear more from any of you that gets one for Christmas!

If you need a calendar to count down to Catching Fire in November 2013, you might as well do it with a 2013 Hunger Games calendar. Calendars.com has a variety of Hunger Games calendars available along with puzzles and games. Look for their calendars in our Twelve Days of Christmas in Panem contest this month!

Did you know that according to FindMyPast.com, the third most iconic facial hair belongs to none other than Seneca Crane? Get this hilarious Seneca Crane mug paying homage to The Beard and go like Seneca’s Crane’s Beard on Facebook while you’re at it.

I know this will aggravate book purists, but for those of us that love collecting (and not opening) Barbies, the Katniss Barbie is really well done in my opinion. I have one and think she looks amazing in the box. Her tiny mockingjay pin is spot on.

After holding one of the lockets in my hands, I know this District 12 keychain is probably just awesome. It’s heavy, but so nicely detailed.

While I don’t use bookmarks since I use an e-reader, these mockingjay bookmarks are just too cute and would make a great gift for an eager reader. Sold by MyTeenageDream on Etsy.
If you’ve got another item you think should be included here, let us know in the comments!

“I’ve included it here for those of you that want to start a legit Hunger Games cult…” — *snort* that was EXACTLY the first thing that crossed my mind when i saw the picture, haha.

May I also suggest The Host by Stephanie Mayer? I haven’t even read it yet but I want to so much! It is apparently so much better than Twilight and the movie is coming out on 29th March 2013 and stars Saoirse Ronan.
And I’m getting that calendar! I’ve already asked for it for Christmas. I keep seeing it in all the shops!
